I live 2 miles north of Marden. I have Freeview although technically I should not have been able to receive it ( 4 yrs ago). The ariel engineer tuned it to Heathfield. As this is in the same direction as Tunbridge Wells, do I just leave it or should I get it re-tuned?

Briantist: TN56EB Authorised Digi Aerial proffesionally fitted and pointing towards Pembury.

For sometime now we have been experiencing intermediate signal problems from Pembury. We have had new cables, had the Panasonic tv checked for any faults (negative),the aerial was fitted four years ago, is pointing the right way and still the problem persists. Even the BBC channels are glitching from time to time. It really is driving me mad. I had heard that the signal from Pembury is due to be increased, is this true. Please advise how we can get a solution and why the signal is so bad from Pembury. On Terestial channels ITV, Channel 4 is also poor.

Hopefully a solution is forth coming.

Martin: You say the aerial is pointing towards Pembury, is it mounted with the rods vertical for the Pembury/Tunbridge Wells relay or is it pointing NNE with the rods horizontal for reception of Bluebell Hill? The reason I ask is because you are not currently predicted to receive signals from Pembury with any chance of reliable reception, whereas Bluebell Hill is shown as giving variable reception on the same frequencies that it shares with Tunbrige W. As you mentioned there is a power increase at Pembury on 22nd February 2012 after which a chance of reception (albeit poor) on muxes 1,2 and D is predicted, but this also muddies the waters for Bluebell Hill by causing a deterioration on shared frequencies. You are also predicted to have good reception from Dover (aerial horizontal and pointing E) but only on muxes 1, A and B, with MuxC variable, MuxD poor and no prediction at all for Mux2. Poor analogue reception does suggest possible reduced power working that has not been announced or either a problem with cables or connectors, an obsruction in the signal path (trees in leaf?) or the TV is tuned to a different transmitter to that which the aerial is pointing to.

My mum has been experiencing some freeview problems where she lives in Bexhill-on-sea. She has tried to tape something this afternoon but it won't allow her to do it, this has happened before and what will happen is that everything that she has on tape will be lost by tomorrow morning. They will just dissapear from the hard drive menu. Is this a problem with the transmitter or her freeview box. This has been happening for a couple of months, all her programmes keep getting deleted off without warning. The box seems to be fine, a prompt does come up telling her that they are working on the transmitter, but we don't understand how the progs get deleted she must need a new freeview box doesn't she? We would appreciated some help/advice on this! Thank you!

kevin: For anyone to be able to assist you really have to provide info on the model of the Freeview box that's being used as well as the recorder in question, plus of course the post code so that the expected signal strength being received at the location can be evaluated.

anne: What do you have connected to your aerial? A TV maybe? A digital box (recorder/PVR).

What are the makes and models of these devices?

I am thinking that the reason could be that your device is tuned to the wrong transmitter. An explanation of this is here:

If you say what models you have, I might be able to pull up the instructions for them and guide you as to how to check they are tuned correctly.

Also, what transmitter is your aerial pointing at? A quick look of your road on Google Streetview shows most on Emley Moor. (DN31NJ)

Anne, I am in sheffield and my TV keeps going off tonight. It started with all the BBC channels during Strictly and spread to most of the other channels, keeps going off and says "No signal" then comes back on later

Janice: As the comment to anne, it could be that your TV is not tuned to the transmitter to which your aerial is facing. There are a number of transmitters that serve different parts of Sheffield.

Perhaps we can help you check that you have the correct channels tuned in.

I am on the Malvern (Worcestershire)transmitter, which relays the Sutton Coldfield signals. My Freeview BBC channels went of the air tonight (13/11/2011)during Strictly too, like all the other commentators mentioned above.Those people could not have the same problem all at once at the same time!! I have done a few retunes as perscribed, but no positive results. Also the other programs went to "widescreen mode" wiping off the subtitels in the process. I think there is nothing wrong with our aerials or equipment. It is the transmitter that is playing up big time!!!All these problems started after Switchover. I had an analogue TV fed through a digital converter box and it worked fine for years! Until now!! Freeview needs to address the problem better, perhaps with TV announcements prior to engineering work!!
