Really annoyed to have lost many of the itv and channel 4 channels, film 4, more 4, itv 3, itv 4, the itv + channels, what a let down, understand many of channels probably from alexander palace in my area. Is this a con to get people to pay for satellite?

fatima redwan: Alexandra Palace wasn't transmitting those channels at all up until 4 April, but now it is. If you were getting those channels before, then you must have been getting them from another transmitter. If you haven't already, you need to retune your set-top box or TV, see www.ukfree.tv link icon My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice and www.ukfree.tv link icon Freeview reception has changed? | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice

And no, it's not a con to get people to pay for satellite. Quite the opposite, part of the point of switchover is to get more channels to more people.

Sorry, Ally Pally wasn't transmitting those channels and still isn't, so you must have been and can continue to get them from elsewhere.

When is the Ally Pally transmitter going to get its scheduled boost?

fatima redwan: The Commercial broadcasters' interest is profit. They have no "Public Service" obligations, unlike BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5.

For a more in-depth explanation of why Alexandra Palace transmitter does not carry these services, see www.ukfree.tv link icon Will there ever be more services on the Freeview Light transmitters? | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice

However, if you received Freeview before switchover then you must have been picking it up from another transmitter which carried it then. Transmitters that carried it before have a full service now. So I expect that you should be able to get all channels.

Therefore "if" your aerial points at the Alexandra Palace transmitter and you got Freeview before, then it was on a wing and prayer as the aerial was facing the wrong way. If this is the case, then you probably need to have your aerial replaced with one on, probably Crystal Palace, to pick up all services.

In the month before switchover we had all channels on Freeview and analogue, all from a rooftop aerial pointed at Crystal Palace. I've retuned three different tuners every day.

Since swichover the number of channels varies from day to day or more frequenly. Much of the time there are only some of the more obscure channels with no ITV or BBC or Channel 4. This morning there was BBC but no ITV, then for a few hours all channels, then briefly nothing at all, and now BBC and some others again but no ITV.

Are they still tweaking the transmitter to adjust the signal? I dont want to waste money on a TV aerial engineer if that's still going on.

Stephen Ward: No, no-one is "tweaking the transmitter". You might like to see www.ukfree.tv link icon Freeview signals: too much of a good thing is bad for you | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .
