Will the other 3 multiplexes be transmitted from findon in the future.?
J
jb38
Saturday 4 February 2012 9:27AM
Rod Payne: Unfortunately not, as Findon is one of the numerous PSB only relays, the commercial multiplexes referred to being exactly as described insomuch paid for purely by business interests, and which because of the limited coverage of such relays it was considered by these interests that the returns expected would not justify the expense of contributing towards the running costs of the additional multiplexes, something which is very unlikely ever to change.

I currently get Classic FM radio via freesat.
Will I be abl to get this and other stations on freeview after Findon switch over?
Dave Lindsay
Monday 13 February 2012 4:19PM
Tony: No. Classic FM is not on Freeview at all.

Findon will only be a Freeview Light transmitter as it will only carry the Public Service Broadcaster (PSB) multiplexes which will give you BBC radio and TV, ITV1, ITV2, C4, E4, More4, C5, HD and a few others.

Probably best to stick with Freesat I'm afraid. The Digital UK predictor suggests that you will have "marginal variable" reception from the Rowridge main station which does carry the commercial channels.

I believe that the poor reception from Rowridge is owed to the fact that you are in a valley, which is why Finton was installed.
Dave Lindsay
Monday 13 February 2012 4:41PM
Tony: I have had a look around your road on Google Streetview. There are a few houses at the higher end of The Heights and on the grassed roundabout with Ashfold Avenue that have aerials on Rowridge. We have no idea of how well they might work for Freeview now (being as it's lower power).

If they can only get the four analogue channels, then having a larger aerial installed for Rowridge would seem pointless as the same four services are available from Findon with a regular size aerial.

All we can know is that the likelihood of success and stability of reception will be greater after switchover.

If you do wish to get someone in an effort to have an aerial installed to receive from Rowridge (in order to get the commercial channels), then wait until 18th April because that it when the power of the commercials will increase. Should you go down this route, then the aerial should be mounted vertically for best reception of the commercial channels.

re: Dave Lindsay: if Tony or anyone else in Findon currently using the Findon Relay, is able to get good strong reception of the PSB muxes from Findon Relay with a standard 10-element aerial, up against marginal / borderline reception (works most of the time with the fairly occasional drop outs) of all 6 muxes from Rowridge VP with an extra high gain aerial, how about this? Put up an extra high gain aerial VP towards Rowridge for the COM muxes, and keep the existing standard aerial on Findon for superior reception of its PSB muxes? Surely you could combine the two together with a signal standard Y-shape signal splitter-combiner. Or the little masthead box I've seen some people with two aerials have - exactly what are they and how do they work?

I live in Worthing town centre, have just bought a new Samsung TV with on board Freeview HD receiver, but cannot receive any freeview HD channels.

Is this likely to be a problem with my aerial?
Dave Lindsay
Wednesday 21 November 2012 1:28PM
Patrick: Not likely.

Try manually tuning to UHF channel 47. If there is an option on the manual tuning screen for DVB-T or DVB-T2, then select the latter.

Just been to in-laws to find they have the four main channels plus HD channels. No Channel 5, ITV2, More4, E4, ITV1+1, 4+1, BBC3, BBC4.

They point at Findon which even though a relay transmitter the digitaluk.co.uk suggests these channels should be received.

Any suggestions what the issue is here?

Solution was factory reset. Picked the channels up immediately. Not sure why a retune didn't.
