Since the retune yesterday, anglia at channel 3 breaks up all the time....has never done before!
However, Anglia has appeared also at channel 804 and is fine. The other main channels are duplicated around there as well.
I live at NR1 4HP.#
What's happening?

Thanks for the reply Briantist I have not changed anything but Ch66 now appears to have much more stability. This morning I now have a signal quality of 9 to 10 mostly 10, rather than than 3 to 4. All other channels are fine with a stable reception.

Briantist,thanks for your reply.
Things much better now,I've got
Sky News ok.I think the cause of problem
is poor signal on Ch 68 now, hence the problems with Sky news and Pick TV etc.
Hope this will be better after November,

As of the resent retune we have been unable to get any of MUX C, we have tried countless retunes etc to no avail. we have a Sony Bravia, could it be a TV problem, transmitter problem or due to engineering works.

jak: The most likely explanation for problems when it rains is that rainwater is getting into the system somewhere, which changes the performance of the cables, increasing the amount of signal lost along the cable. Higher frequencies are affected worse than lower ones - mux 1 and D are the highest frequencies carrying digital channels.

If Channel 4 analogue appears more 'snowy' when it rains, or you have more problems with Teletext, then this is most likely the problem.

Water could either be getting into a junction box or an external amplifier, the connection point on the aerial, or through the insulation of the cable itself. All junction boxes should be fitted with the lid and cable entry points on the underside, so that water is less likely to enter and can drain out. The edges of the cover should be sealed, as should all cable entry points. Any unused connections should be sealed up.

Cables should be secured at regular intervals as they travel over brickwork and tiles - if the cable can move, the insulation will be abraded by rubbing against this, and that can let water in. Cables that are on a sunny wall will lose their flexibility and go brittle, with prolonged exposure to ultra-violet light. If the cables haven't been renewed for more than 10 years, it may be worth doing this anyway.

Eventually the aerial itself will become damaged with exposure to weather - check that it appears to be intact.

The increased power levels after switchover will probably mean that the problem goes away for a while, but depending on the type of cable, it may be possible for water to run down the inside of the cable and damage your TV or set-top box.

There is a natural variation of signal levels - the amount of signal lost as it goes from the transmitter to you increases and decreases - so if the average levels are marginal, channels will come and go.

A well-functioning set-up at your distance from the transmitter should really have near-perfect analogue reception, so if it isn't, it may be worth getting it sorted out now.

Thanks Mike. Aerial & all cables new. Analogue reception usually excellent. Only worsen at same time as I lose digital channels. Rain does seem to be the common factor here so I'll prob get someone out to check everything - again. Thanks for yr time.

It seems that the problem with not getting Sky News and other channels on the digital multiplex C61, is actually due to below average power (or not transmitting at all)and is intermittent in Market Weston, Suffolk. Hopefully this transmitter will be up and running with full power soon.

Just had a new aerial fitted to outside of house - today

Two leads from it - one to Humax Digi Box - working fine

One to Bush Ditigal Recorder - all stations received except for epg information on ITV1, ITV2 More 4 etc etc - seems to be a group

The information is not missing on the Humax just the Bush - have done a factory reset and still missing

Any ideas please?

The most likely explanation at that postcode is too much signal - get the installer to fit a smaller aerial!

Kevin Mitchelson: Check that you have tuned to signals from Tacolneston on all muxes. It is possible that signals from Sudbury or Rouncefall have been received and the mix of 2k and 8k channels is confusing the EPG. Are there any channels in the 800s of the channel list which give EPG information?

Question on aerial boosters post switch over

Served from Tacolneston (just !) I have a Televes DAT45 with MRD amplifier built in which feeds into a 4 way distribution amplifier.
F/V signal strength is around 75% and (according to the TV & F/V boxes) 100% error free, indeed we can pick up all the available channels whereas prior to F/V we couldn't really get a good channel 5 pic at all.
I am assuming that post switchover I will have to reduce the gain of the distribution amp or fit an attenuator on the Televes aerial output so a) what is the recommended procedure and b) what happens if I don't ?
On analog TV I recall that the picture would have black bars if the signal was to strong.

thanks

david faulkner: Put in basic terms, if the tuner in whatever Freeview device you are using is overloaded it will either totally block reception altogether by swamping of its input circuitry, or if the signal is slightly over the top in power is very likely cause erratic reception in the same way as can be experienced when a signal is being received that is just hovering above the reception threshold of the equipment being used, in other words the picture breaking up or disappearing at random as the signal level being received fluctuates slightly.

Needless to say this can vary between different brands of equipment because the varying sensitivity levels of the tuners being used, but in cases of excessively strong RF signal overloading a whole range of odd symptoms can be experienced.

I am using the RF OUT connection on my Sky Box to carry signal to another television which has a freeview box connected to it. The Freeview reception is fine, the Sky Channel signal shown on the the remote television is now pretty poor. Is the strong freeview signal interfering with the sky channel? Is there anything I can do to correct this? Will it get worse when our transmitter is switched over to digital in November?

Sorry to break the bad news folks, but after the final stage switchover for Tacolneston transmitter viewers, from Wednesday 23 November 2011 onwards, the current Group C/D aerials (ch's 48-68) for Tacolneston will probably need changing to preferably a Group E type aerial (ch's 35-68),as on the above date 2 of the 6 frequencies,SDN on ch 42 and ArqA on ch 45 will be out of the Group C/D range, the other 4 frquencies on ch 50 ArqB,ch 55 BBCA,ch 59 D3+4 and ch 62 BBCB (HD) will remain within Group C/D range.A wideband or Group W aerial can be used as an alternative as these aerials although quite useless for lower frequencies are quite good for higher frequency channels especially in the case of Tacolneston after switchover.
