Ventnor Hi,
We live in what is known as "The undercliff" and can only get a poor analog signal from Ventnor. Are things likely to be better or worse after switchover?
Because of the poor off-air reception we are on Sky, so why am I worrying about Freeview? We need to replace a small tv/VHS combo, and a tv with USB record/playback would be ideal - but they only work on Freeview . . .M

Philip Hawkins: Digital UK reckon you have a good chance of locating reliable reception, though that's based on the centre of your postcode and could be worse further down the cliff. It is your best bet, Rowridge itself is shown as a fairly low chance of even variable reception, and zero chance of reliable reception. You will only get the three Public Service multiplexes.
One advantage that digital has over analogue is that the relay can do a full decode with error correction before re-encoding and transmitting. You might have to ask around to see if other viewers have better reception to figure out if the relay is retransmitting a poor quality signal, or if your reception is problematic.
Note that the channels are changing at switchover, which may mean that the channels are also more clear of interference than at present.
Do be aware that reception deteriorates over time as the aerial and particularly the cables weather. If water has penetrated the cables they will drop a lot more signal than if they were completely dry. You should probably plan to replace cables after about 10 years, or if they've been allowed to rub over brickwork or tiles, which damages the insulation.P

Ventnor PO38 1TQ - Tulse Hill in Ventnor is shown as a gap in the reception. We have excellent analogue reception at present but what is the likelyhood of a good/any digital reception?Andy Seaward: Yes, you will get a digital signal come switchover in March, but you will only get the Public Service Broadcaster groups of channels which are BBC, ITV1, ITV2, C4, E4, More4, C5, the four HD services and a few others.
In order to get more channels you will have to look at another platform. The non-subscription satellite service Freesat is a probable candidate. Ventnor The switch over on the Ventnor mast went very well. Is there any chance of ITV3 and ITV4 at some time in the future? A

Ventnor I hope for your sake this will be my last question. I bought a Sharp LC22le320e which has a freeview tuner built in and is labeled for HD. In Ventnor (PO38 1TQ) we are supposed to get 4 HD channels (50, 51, 52, 54) but these do not tune in whatever I try. What am I doing wrong?Andy Seaward: Refer to the Sharp website:
LCD TV - Sharp
The specification says that it does not have the ability to receive DVB-T2 (HD) signals. It is also described as "HD Ready" which means that it can show HD pictures, but does not have in-built means to receive them over-the-air. A

Ventnor Well whoopy doo!
I came across a "Creative USB dongle" bought years ago, which had not produced anything in the past, installed it on a laptop running Windows XP (as stipulated)and plugged in the outside aerial - success.
It gives good clear pictures on both the non-HD multiplexes, without using the aerial booster.
Probably now time to get a Freeview tv . . .T

Ventnor We can no longer receive a tv signal on the south facing side of our house with an indoor aerial. It works only on the north side. This happened two nights ago and persists. Have had no problems before. Have tried resetting tv several times to no avail. Has the signal been turned down in our area? PO38 1EH. Help please?Victoria Thorpe: The Ventnor transmitter is to your north and the signal is therefore coming from that direction!
If you have found that you no longer have as good a signal on the south side then this may suggest that the reflection you were relying on is either being blocked or is no longer there.
Resetting the TV will do absolutely nothing, barring wasting time, if it is a lack of signal!
