To whom it may concern,
My name is Ms Free. I live at 115 Wycombe lane which is in Wooburn Green near the REBRO on top of the hill which is to the west of my location. I am experiencing severe reception problems. One minute it is fine, the next it either loses it or is very choppy for hours. Please could you look into the problem for me and my neighbours, who are experiencing this problem too.
Yours faithfully,
Ms Katie FreeMark DelaneyMonday 6 July 2009 5:57PM
High Wycombe Katie,
Assuming your house is on the same side of the road as most Wycombe lane houses .... step outside your front door and look to the right (towards the green and up the hill towards the excellent Pub/Hotel Chequers Inn) you should easily spot transmitter tower with the white thing stuck on the top. Does your aerial point at this?
It only gives out channels 1..4 (ie no Five or freeview) and gives excellent reception.
If your aerial is pointing some other direction then chances are reception will be a bit rubbish (hence why they built us our own personal transmitter for Wooburn Green and Bourne End)
.. if it points East into the hill opposite then it's probably trying to recieve Crystal Palace, if it points towards Bourne End then it's probably aimed at Hannington. I belive in the days before our personal transmitter the large 'H' aerials see see the tops of houses were used to try and get something from Crystal Palace (the main problem being the hill in the way infront of you!)
Given the number of aerials around Wooburn Green all pointing in random directions I suspect lots of people have had varying attempts at picking up the main transmitters ... I dunno how much had any success though as like you and I we all live in the bottom of a valley with no line of sight.
I suspect your perfect reception options are if you want more than just channels 1..4 then your only options are Freesat or Sky. ... (personally I got for the Freesat option)
Mark (who lives on the Green)I live in the Wooburn Moor area using the local transmitter. It has been offline since approx 6pm Wednesday; it is still off now, 9am Thursday. What is the problem? There have been quite a few problems lately. Christine GeaneyThursday 8 July 2010 10:29AM

will the wooburn repeater carry dab transmissions?tony: You're having a laugh!
It doesn't carry FM and is only a low power TV relay. I should expect that if you're going to receive DAB, then it will be from elsewhere, in much the same way as BBC national FM comes from elsewhere. Mike DimmickFriday 23 March 2012 9:03PM
Here's one for the confusion stakes: according to Digital UK's final Installer Newsletter, on 4 April, ITV1 will move to BBC Two's frequency, and BBC One will move to ITV1's.
This is because BBC A will use the channel below BBC One analogue, and therefore BBC One has to move out of the way. With ITV1 already being displaced at Crystal Palace (because BBC Two uses C33, being released), doing this double-bounce means that only the ITV1 transmitter's input needs retuning, rather than having to retune the ITV1 transmitter to C33 and the BBC Two transmitter to C26.
Having a digital channel one below an analogue one requires the analogue channel to be more tightly filtered, and presumably adapting the BBC One transmitter isn't worth doing for just two weeks!AndySunday 1 April 2012 10:44AM
London When I first heard thst the Wooburn relay would only provide a minimal number of Freeview channels, I decided to get Freesat.
Now we are only days away from DSO, and there is still no hint of anything more than the basic PSB channels, I'm wondering if there is ANY hope of ever getting more channels than we will have on April 18th ?
I suspect there are going to be a lot of disappointed viewers of relay transmitters when they realise in a few days time that they are not getting all the channels that Crystal Palace viewers receive. Will they ever ? Andy: I to think that the "Freeview Lite" transmitters will be one of the biggest let-downs for a silent minority.
The new Freeview advert does not make clear that not all services are available in all areas.
Due to the way in which things are done these days, private commercial interests are allowed when decisions as far as coverage are being made. For an explanation of why the Commercial multiplexes won't broadcast from 1000 or so relays like Wooburn, see here:
Will there ever be more services on the Freeview Light transmitters? | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice
In some cases, reception may be possible from another transmitter that does carry these services, but this will of course, require a new aerial. Indeed, in some cases (with some transmitters), because of frequency planning, new aerials will be necessary to receive the Commercial multiplexes (but not the PSBs). AndySunday 1 April 2012 12:41PM
High Wycombe Dave: Thanks for your reply, and the link. Very informative.
I do think it's a pity that the third MUX (the ITV one) could not be better populated. It seems such a waste to give "relay viewers" those +1 channels, when they could have been given, say, ITV3 and ITV4. I have no problem with +1 channels when the platform has sufficient spare capacity, but that situation doesn't exist on Freeview.
Makes me glad that I went Freesat, and didn't wait for Freeview Lite !J BaxterSunday 1 April 2012 1:12PM
My Sharp Aquos 46" tv has Qvc and Bid tv missing from the channel line up it was fine until two days ago could i do a manual add?
please advise. Andy: The broadcasters that rely on revenue from advertising are likely to base their decisions on what they consider to be maximising those revenue streams.
Evidently, one assumes, showing ITV1 an hour later (in Freeview Lite areas) is seen a better earner than ITV3. J Baxter: Please provide your location (preferrably in the form of post code) and we should be able to assist with the channel you need to manually tune to. Also, the direction your aerial may be useful, particularly if there are a number of possibilities. tonySunday 20 May 2012 6:20PM
So we have just 4 of the 6 multiplex.what a con..if the tv companies said BEFORE we all bought the boxes instalation etc, then i would have kept sky!if we all complain to offcom..or if its a matter of cost, then why not ask all the residence the LIGHT repeater supplies, depending on cost, to pay a one off fee to install the required equipment? KMJ,DerbySunday 20 May 2012 7:09PM
tony: Are you sure that you are out of range for reception of the full Freeview service from Crystal Palace? You would, of course require the correct aerial to receive it reliably, just as you did in the analogue days if you wanted Channel Five from Croydon. To be fair, you do expect to receive more channels with a subscription to Sky or V.M., but it is a fair point that advertisements for Freeview and DAB radio do need to make it clearer that provision of all services is not universal. Similarly it needs better information on "HD ready" equipment with regards to inability to receive Freeview HD (or Saorview in Ireland). Your idea for a one off contribution to cover the cost of installing the extra muxes on relay transmitters is interesting, but at this stage when Ofcom is looking at selling as much spectrum as possible for 4G, would be unlikely to be considered due to frequency shortage even if funding was available.AndyWednesday 23 May 2012 9:50AM
High Wycombe tony: I cancelled Sky and got Freesat when it started because I had read about the Lite service on the relays. I have no regrets !
Having said that, one of my neighbours in Wooburn Manor Park gets a fair signal from Crystal Palace from his chimney-level aerial and is considering getting a better one installed. Wooburn is quite variable in it's CP reception, but there ARE locations where it works reasonably well.
So, if you can get ANY sort of signal from CP, you might want to consider an aerial upgrade.
Otherwise, since you already have a Sky dish, you could consider Freesat.
Compare the full Freeview channel list with Freesat's and see what you think.
Hope this helps.
And YES, the Freeview adverts don't make it clear that Lite relays offer a very limited channel line-up !WOOBURN transmitter - Freeview BBC Digital TV Off Air from 21:16 today to 22:02 today HD Digital TV Off Air from 21:16 today to 22:02 today [BBC] WOOBURN transmitter - Freeview BBC Digital TV Off Air from 21:16 on 28 Jul to 22:02 on 28 Jul HD Digital TV Off Air from 21:16 on 28 Jul to 22:02 on 28 Jul [BBC] tonyTuesday 18 September 2012 8:22PM
