can you be more specific about engineering works how long is the work expected to go on what are they doing, is there a more technical report , I live in RH13 0QD and have been experiencing very poor reception on all freeview and analogue channels first it started with all the ITV channels and its started with the BBC channels what are they doing !!! I know its not a fault with the Arial all TV setup as I have checked with my neighbours who are all experiencing the same problems can you enlighten me what the engineers are doing and when will the transmitter be raised to full power again

barnsgreen: They are probably, at the moment, moving services to temporary transmitters so that the existing buildings can be cleared and the new transmitters installed.

Unusually, the existing transmitting aerials are not going to be replaced, as a new panel-type aerial was installed for analogue only in 1994, unlike many other sites where the analogue antenna was 40 or more years old and old technology as well. A reserve aerial is being added to allow additional redundancy should a failure occur.

If they are working on the mast to fit the reserve aerial, the power may need to be turned down to allow safe working.

We really have no idea of Arqiva's timetable. However, aerial installation season typically ends in October.

Digital UK's postcode predictor currently gives moderate to poor results for Mux 1 and B, and no results at all for Mux 2, A, C and D. At switchover you are expected to get very good to excellent performance for all except Mux C, which will then improve when another site (probably Guildford) switches over.

Mike many thanks for the update after several weeks of trying to find out what’s going on at the Midhurst transmitter (I had previously tried speaking to “digital uk” but they didn’t really know what was happening to my signal) you have at last given an reasonable explanation why my reception has been so variable seems you have better inside knowledge , just hope they finish work the work soon as the wife is given me so much grief if the signal goes bad while she’s watching cory

Why were we not warned in advance of the Engineering works, I have seen nothing on Southern News about this. I have spent a couple of hours attempting to retune my BBC1, BB2, ITV and Channel 4 analogue programmes I assume this is something to do with the digital change over which I believe may well be detrimental to people like myself who live in a valley and will also depend a lot on weather conditions. Not good enough!
