Hi. I live in RH20 Ashington. My aerial is pointing at Midhurst. My freeview box says I am getting mainly Heathfield and some Rowridge stations. The signal must be coming through the back of the aerial for the Heathfield ones I guess.
Going by an earlier answer the Rowridge ones must be from Midhurst?
However the Heathfield signal is better than the Rowridge one and most of the stations I get are Heathfield ones. Given that Heathfield is twice as far as Midhurst how can this be?

Tony James: Don't believe your set-top box, they only report the name of the main regional transmitter. To find the correct transmitter please see www.ukfree.tv link icon Find a freeview transmitter by frequency | ukfree.tv - independent digital TV and switchover advice

Brian - I understand about the box only reporting the main regional transmitter (I read your earlier post!) but I know it isn't coming from Midhurst as the BBC & ITV regional news broadcasts are the ones for East Sussex/Kent. Unless of course digital transmissions are not local to the area?

I live 10Km away from the Midhurst transmitter and have noticed that the digital Freeview signal on ITV stations and channel 4 has been of inferior quality lately. This often causes breakup of sound and pixellation of the picture. Is there a logical reason for this as it was fine up until a short while ago? The only solution to this is to revert to the old analogue signal, which rather defeats the object of having a digital television in the first place. I have a new rooftop digital aerial connected. I would appreciate your comments.
Thank you

Hi can you help.

Yesterday evening ITV1 disappeared from my tv and channel 4 moved into its place in the channel order.

I have tried to retune my tv but can only get a very fussy ITV1.

I am in RH13 and the midhurst transmitter seems to be working - am I the victim of a digital switchover and don't have a digital TV (it is several years old).

I just don't understand why I can't tune in and get a clear picture and why it disappeared in the first palce.

Hi. Hoping for some advice. I live in West Sussex (BN69), and I'm trying to set up Freeview on:- A) my Samsung TV with built in DVB tuner, and B) my Apple Mac computer using an Elgato eyeTV 250 plus. Having auto-tuned with both attached to the same roof mounted ariel, I've had very different results. The TV stored 45 channels (including radio), with BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, CH4, ITV2, BBC3, BBC4, ITV3, CH4+1, More4, ITV4, E4, CBBC etc. BUT NO CHANNEL 5! The eyeTV device on the iMac stored 21 channels (including 5 radio, and 7 locked/encrypted, such as Setanta and 3 TopUp TV channels). The regular channels include CH5, QVC, 5US, 5Life etc. BUT NO BBC CHANNELS! These are all apparently on 802.25 Mhz. The aerial was here when we moved in, and faces West(ish) so I figure it's pointed at the Midhurst transmitter, and I'd like to understand what I might need to do in order to get ALL the above channels, on BOTH TV and iMac. Any advice/info. you can give will be gratefully received! Thanks in advance. Ces

Live in Horsham, with DTV from Midhurst. Getting Mua 1, 2, A, B all OK, but nothing on Mux C or D.

Based on the chart above, Mux C looks like it should be the best signal!

Any ideas?

Hi. Like the website - very informative.

Can you help with a reception problem with muxes C and D off Midhurst from my location in Horsham (RH12 4HQ).

According to tx power and distance, Crystal palace is theoretically better but a terrain resource website shows a dirty great range of hills well into the line of sight.

Aerial is a DAT75 with MRU and distribution amp.

Feeders are all run in fully screened (Braid + foil) cable.

Receiver is a Digifusion FVRT150 (plus Matsui digibox in kiddies bedroom)

Muxes 1 (ch 56) 2 (ch 65) A (ch 62) B (ch 59) are all 2kW and all 4 receive OK (Receiver reports ~65-70% signal with no errors)

Mux C (ch 64) is supposed to be 2.5kW - more than the others - but reports ~40% and 100% errors!!! (Kiddie bedroom box actually just about receives this one but its too broken up to be of use)

Mux D (ch 60) is 1kW and reports 0% signal and 100% errors.

Domestic VCR and satellite box RF outputs are tuned well away from channels 50+ and there’s no damned games machines nearby.

Any ideas how to improve Muxes C and D?

Thanks

John

John Kirkwood: You might just have to wait until switchover. You have clashes between CP, Hanngton and Heathfield...

"On C29, Freeview multiplex D signal from Crystal Palace (horizontal) is stronger than Freeview multiplex 2 signal from Heathfield (horizontal).
On C34, Freeview multiplex C signal from Crystal Palace (horizontal) is stronger than Freeview multiplex 1 signal from Heathfield (horizontal).
On C39, analogue BBC ONE signal from Hannington (horizontal) is stronger than Freeview multiplex C signal from Reigate (vertical).
On C64, analogue ITV-1 signal from Heathfield (horizontal) is stronger than Freeview multiplex C signal from Midhurst (horizontal).
On C66, analogue C4/S4C signal from Hannington (horizontal) is stronger than Freeview multiplex D signal from Reigate (vertical). "

My Humax set-top box shows low signal levels on both of these channels with zero quality. The other muxes have sufficient signal and 100% quality to be viewable.
I live south of Horsham, approx 27km due east of the transmitter.

Like Jane above, I have suddenly lost Ch 62 Mux A, Channel 5 etc. (Midhurst Transmitter).

Never had a problem getting this to date but even my most sensitive Humax box will not auto detect it. Will try tuning it manually later.

Has power at Midhurst reduced? Rain causing poor reception? I'll obviously check for lcoal problems too, loose cables etc.

The kids are mourning the loss of Peppa Pig!

There were some co-channel issues/ conflicts involving Midhurst and Rowridge since dtt started. In horsham from memory there was no reliable reception on muxes 60 & 64 but a slight null in the tx aerial due east of midhurst had to be adopted to stop co channel from Reigate and Heathfield. Don't worry if you are receiving muxes 1,2 A & B its possibly coming through from Rowridge. Just to confirm Channels 56, 59, 60, 62, 64 and 65 are broadcast from Midhurst. Are you getting both C & D muxes at full strength?

As many of my customers are located in the Sussex & Hampshire areas, as are my family, I would like to receive programmes from this locality as well and would be grateful for advice about whether it is possible from the RH6 location (I recognise that I would need a second aerial). I have just purchased a Marks & Spencer MS 22" Combi 51 LCD receiver with integral DVB-T receiver as a replacement for a 22" tubed Panasonic TV and a Sagem set top box. The old set up received Freeview satisfactorily on all multiplexes from the beginning of transmissions. However the new IDTV does not receive Mux 2 (ITV etc). The other Muxes are ok with about 70% signal strength. On querying this with the Helpline of the supplier I was told that IDTVs often have lower sensitivity inputs than separate Set Top Boxes. Is this true? As I have taken a step backwards I am returning the receiver as 'not suitable for purpose' but wish to know if I would get satisfactory reception if I change to a different manuafacturer e.g. Philips or whether I have to wait until 2012 before replacing my TV. As a retired BBC broadcast engineer who spent many years helping to improve camera and display performance I find this very frustrating and wonder how non technical folks cope with the change.

Hi John,

Unless you use a hd source, it is very unlikely that any lcd's picture would be as good as the the crt panasonic, While there are differances between the sensitivity of different equipment, its not true that all idtvs are less sensitive than stb's. You could check that changing equipment hasnt damaged any aerial connections or damaged any cable by setting up the sagem & connecting it to your new tv. If it works fine then you can presume the tv has a weak tuner or another problem. let us know what you find !

David Neill - Hi, Midhurst is a C/D transmitter for all muxes. Why the need for such a large Wideband aerial at only 10 miles distance... Mux D from Midhurst is the lowest powered of the 6 muxes so any signal strength problems will result in the loss of that mux. Also the proximity of Rowridge has created a null in transmission from Midhurst for muxes 60 & 64, the slightest spot of co-channel will wipe out an individual mux. 2 options you have, is to have your aerial re-aligned to Heathfield and pick up all 6 muxes or try a low power amp on the STB and perform a full manual re-scan. Unfortunately Rowridge and Midhurst have a lot of conflict and this March re-shuffle might begin to put things right...

Hi
I live in GU33 Liss. I can receive the progs on Channel 56 i.e. BBC1, 2, 3 etc.
Progs on Channel 59 (BBC4 etc) vary from average to weak signal.
I currently get nothing on the remaining channels for the Midhurst transmitter. I note that CH64 should be the strongest but there is no signal from that source. I was receiving stations quite well on CH60 (Film 4 UKTV History etc) but have had nothing for several months. CH62 did come through weak at one stage but is currently dead. CH64 has never given a signal.
Have you any thoughts as to why I cannot receive anything at all on what is supposed to be the strongest Channel No 64 but still get the BBC stations which are weaker.

Regards Phil

I live in Cuckfield RH17, and have had my aerial pointed at Midhurst because taller buildings uphill stand between me and Heathfield (the alternative). Since installing a new aerial last year the reception has mostly been fine. Recently, however, it has deteriorated, as if the signal is weakening. Now for the last few days (since the Rowridge retune?) I have no digital BBC1 or BBC2 at all (analogue is acceptable), though a retune of the box has brought back most other channels OK, including BBC4 and 5 and ITV1 and C4. My next door neighbour has exactly the same experience. Has Midhurst reduced power or what?

I live in Cuckfield West Sussex, RH17 5JU. Midhurst is best line-of-sight option from my position, even though we are towards the outer limit of the range. After installing a better High Gain aerial last year I had very good Freeview reception of the main channels I wanted – BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, C4, BBC4, BBC3, C5, More 4 +1 Film4, BBC News 24. No signal loss or pixellated images all last summer and autumn. Over the last few months however, the signal seemed to weaken. Reception quality declined radically, and some channels dropped out. Last week, just after the Rowridge reconfiguration, BBC1 and BBC2 dropped out all together and other Freeview reception remains very poor - forcing us back to analogue most of the time. Neigbours have the same experience. BBC reception line confirms numeroud complaints, but Digital UK deny all knowledge of any reduction in signal, and offer no way to discuss the issue with engineers at Midhurst. Does anyone have similar experience, or any ideas what had happened?

Help would be appreciated

Since Installing a Digital TV in late 2008 I have been receiving all channels and many of the freeview channels.

However for the past 4days - 1st June 09 onwards, the signal strength for ITV1 and BBC4 started to fade and at present there is currently no signal for these two channels.

I am located at RH20 2LH

Is there a reason for this ?
