I live in Poulner, Ringwood and have to rely on the local relay for my analogue signal. Both your site and Wolfbane predict that I should be able to receive Freeview from Salisbury and a terrain map shows a good line of sight, However, when I have tentatively approached aerial installers the reply is either severe doubt or a definite "no, you won't get it from Salisbury. The signal is too weak", but your map placed my postcode definitely within the transmitter's range. Either the predictions are wrong or the installers are not completely up to date. Have you any advice on what questions I need ask of an installer and what type of aerial (other than group) and other equipment that would be the most suitable for me?

You should be able to get some Freeview signal from Salisbury.

Note that some of the multiplexes transmit on lower power, so you may be able to receive only some of the services. See http://www.ukfree.tv/notethat.php?d=SU136285

See http://www.ukfree.tv/fullstory.php?storyid=1107051054&sid=3&subid=0 for details about aerials. Note that there is a difference between wideband aerials (designed to receive the full range of transmitted signals) and a class 1 aerial (designed for poor reception areas).

Please let me know how you get on.

I live at SP5 2HU. I use Humax PVR9200T and Philips DTR1500 STB's
When I first tried Freeview, it was from Rowridge, but on a 20 year old antenna, and not all muxes received.
two years ago I had a new antenna professionally installed on a tall pole on chimney. Installer chose salisbury as marginally better, and less open to variations in propagation ("lift" conditions, with interference from French stations for example)
All was reasonably OK until one weekend in April/May this year, when MUX2 reception died literally overnight and has never returned. Installer moved antenna, and added MH preamp, but did not improve. New installer says MUX2 far weaker than the others. He will return and try Rowridge.
I notice that for my adjacent postcode (SP5 2HE) full coverage used to be predicted by DTG from one tx, and partial from 3 others. No longer. MUX2 is now not predicted for any.
Was there a change either at Salisbury or at Mendip (co-channel), around the time I experienced loss of MUX2?

Dave B: I suspect the change was to the database rather than the transmitters. It is true that the 64QAM-mode of mulipltex 2 makes the service harder to receive, particularly at the edge of the service areas. You might also like to try (whilst your aerial installer is there) to try receving from the Hannington transmitter as well. Pop your postcode into www.ukfree.tv link icon My Freeview reception to get directions.

My freeview has just gone off air with a 'no signal' comment - I wonder if there is a problem with the Salisbury transmitter. Anyone else with problems??
Briantist
Saturday 17 November 2007 6:32PM
james lawrence: There are no problems, loss of 100% of channels is always a local cable, aerial or connector problem.

I live in Downton, souht of Salisbury, and have been receiving the Freeview signals fine since ONDigital started in this area. But ever since yesterday (10/12/07) Mux A has disappeared. Can't get any of the channels, and my (ONdigital Philips) box signal strength reporter is showing no signal on C59.
David
Friday 14 December 2007 11:16AM Salisbury
Still no Mux A, which I had been getting for years without trouble before 10/12. If the problem was my end, shouldn't I have lost Mux 2 and maybe D before A?

Who runs the transmitter? Can I call or email them?

Friday 14 December 2007 4:46PM
David: Please try this page first. www.ukfree.tv link icon Single frequency interference | ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002 - if the problem is interference, rather than a poor signal then mux A could go first.

I haven't any new equipment to interfere, and have the same original aerial I've always used. Nothing this end has changed. I've had Mux A fine for years, along with the others. On the 10th all Mux A channels went to black with a red dot. Unfortunately I chose that time to do a rescan for channels as many have ended up on the wrong number after changes over the years, and after the rescan I've got no Mux A channels in the channel list. I have two STBs, one ONDigital, one a modern one. Both report no signal strength on C59. C56 and Mux 2, which should be weaker, isn't reported as being hugely strong, but is still registering as medium strength and those channels display fine.

Hi
I've just come across the new BBC / ITV Freesat service. As I live in Dublin I was going to buy a box in Northern Ireland but when I checked your feature about changing from sky to freeview in 5 minutes there was a bit that said 'Then you enter your postcode and the box checks it:'. Can you explain what this is about? What would happen if I put in any UK postcode?
Thanks
Briantist
Wednesday 25 June 2008 5:23AM
Paddy Fox: You can put in any UK postcode you like and the box customizes the channels for that postcode. That's it.

We are in Milston sp4 8by and receive very poor analogue from an AH aerial pointing to Rowridge. Our new TV is receiving excellent strength and quality from the same antenna EXCEPT that the 56 mux2 channel carrying ITV etc is very very poor and breaks up quite often. I have assumed that the digital channels I am receiving come direct from Rowridge but by the frequency and content of the channels they come from the salisbury transmitter. I was willing to accept this and so proposed to change the aerial toh band CD-V and point it towards salisbury which is at about 187 deg while Rowridge is about 154 deg. BUT - a local installer says that is wrong and while not explaining - says that the signals are direct from Rowridge and would be at the higher frequencies reported by the TV receiver - - -HELP what does he mean?

Chris B:If your channel line-up is on C52,C55,C56,C59,C62 and C65 as listed at the top of the page you are correct in thinking that you are receiving signals from Salisbury (C/D vertical). The signals from Rowridge are all in group A and you are unlikely to receive a usable signal if analogue is poor.I am surprised that a local installer did not know where your signals come from as local knowledge is an essential part of his job!

Hi - we have a holiday caravan at bh23 4hu - you say we should use Salisbury but cannot due to high trees right behind us so get Freeview from mendip only - has been variable but mostly OK for last year - since December nearly all channels gone except sky 3 /sky NeWS - no BBC at all - tried retuning many times - we had a New wideband Ariel/cable/connectors to improve which worked fine for last year - what is going on ?

Does anybody know if Salisbury is going to loose CH5 on 7 April, when Mendip goes fully digital? Salisbury BBC1, BBC2, ITV and CH4 are all rebroadcasts of Rowridge but CH5 is a rebroadcast of Mendip (CH5 was never broadcast from Rowridge). IF Salisbury is going to loose CH5 would somebody care to tell us? There has been no report locally (that I have seen or heard) regarding this.
