TED: Although what you have mentioned may or may not be applying at this present time (no info available) you should also beware of the problems caused by receiving an excessively high level of signal, something which could possibly apply to your situation by you being located at only 1 mile away from the Kings Weston 200 watt transmitter, the symptoms of signal overloading being identical to that of a weak signal.

Without knowledge of any details regarding the aerial being used if you have any booster in line then try by passing it, (not switching off) or if a booster is not being used then purely for a test try either a set top aerial or a short piece of wire connected into the aerial socket, if this produces a more stable picture then an attenuator is required to be placed in line with the aerial input to your TV / box.

Hi guys,
we cannot receive any BBC freeview channels at our house. We have 3 different freeview boxes. We have retuned them and still no BBC.
Can anyone tell me if there are problems in my area in Bristol?
How do I get BBC back on the freeview boxes?

Since the retune last week 16th October, the reception on the BBC channels is not as good, breaking up on occasions. Signal strength indicated by my Humax is now 80% rather than the previous 100%.

Ever since the latest retune request (approx 2nd week OCt 2012) on our Freeview TV, we have absolutely NO signal coming through!!

I have tried x3 different signal boosters and still nothing, I can't help but think that this has to have something to do with the retune or with this 4G problem that others on the web have mentioned? HELP!!!

Mat Iles: 4G has nothing to do with it, as it's only being used in under a dozen cities and currently using the spare capacity in the 3G frequencies.

So have you had no TV for 6 weeks? If so, do your neighbours have problems? Do you have other TVs that have a signal? Have you checked the connections and done a first time installation/factory settings on your TV?

Mat Iles: Plus to add to Michaels request for further info, as your query is one involving reception then its essential that info regarding your location be provided, this in the form of a post code or one from nearby, as knowledge of this will then enable access to the reception predictor as well as info on the transmitter covering your location.

Amanda Day: The frequency of the multiplex that carries ITV (Channel 3) was changed at Kings Weston on Wednesday 27th March 2013. You will need to re-tune your receiver to continue watching ITV. If a scan for channels does not automatically restore the missing services you will have to do a factory reset to delete the old frequency information from the receiver's memory. If you do a manual tune for the new frequency enter "40", then store the channels that are found.

Re-tuned on 27th March 2013 as per the on-screen blurb. Since then unable to recieve any BBC channels or radio stations. Have also lost ITV3 and Quest. All other channels are fine. Have tried numerous re-tunes since to no avail.

I manage an elderly peoples extra care home and since the changes to the transmitter on the 27/3 none of my residents that only have freeview can get any BBC channels. The arial is a communal one and there have been no changes or alterations made to that. We've tried resetting all the televisions numerous times but to no avail. The schemes post code is BS7 0FD.
Dave Lindsay

WJ Freeman: Communal systems can be filtered so as to only allow through the frequencies used by the designated transmitter.

The PSB2 multiplex (ITV, C4, C5 etc) from King's Western changed frequency last Wednesday, but the BBC one didn't. The PSB1 multiplex (which carries standard definition BBC services) changed frequency from Mendip, but the others did not.

With this in mind, I wonder if the aerial faces Mendip and not King's Western, both of which may be possibilities at the location.

For receivers with a manual tune function, BBC is on C49 from Mendip and C43 from King's Western. Having entered/selected the channel number, before pressing the button to scan/OK, wait and see if the receiver gives an indication of strength/quality as many receivers act as a signal meter before scanning.

To find out which transmitter is being used, in addition to observing the aerial, you may be able to view on the signal strength screen the UHF channel (frequency) being received for ITV. For Mendip it is C54 and for King's Western it is C40.

Either way, if it is a communal aerial and it is that which is the issue then the only thing to do is contact the party responsible for it.
