Like Del the Freeview "service", particularly on ITV etc has been poor for a long, long time. Today, no freeview watchable on any channel, even BBC 1 which is usually fine. Hopefully just another "teething" problem before switchover and full power transmission that will, hopefully, lead to a completely watcheable freeview service.

MH: Yes, the whole point of digital switchover is to get rid of the high power analogue system and replace it with a high power digital one. The low power systembefore was a compromise.

However, if you have specifc problems today you might just want to check the www.ukfree.tv link icon Freeview reception has changed? | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice page.

Additional info following previous post. Having following the freeview reset procedure, no freeview channels at all detected, Analogue channels all have thick white band moving dowe the screen. Would assume that there must be some problem with transmitter/work going on as analogue was ok earlier today! Oh well, looks like the radio rather than TV for a while......

No change in freeview since my post at 2.00 and analogue also unwatchable. Just wondered if freeview transmission power reduced to even lower levels than recently. Until today BBC etc has always been ok with poor signal/pixelation on ITV etc? Digital TV ceratnly not "working mormally" for me today.

I live in HP21 area and the Mux A channels have been unwatchable for the last few days. I'm not going to re-tune or do anything until the switchover has finished. Just thought I'd post this so others can see they are not alone in losing channels at the moment.

andrzej: Indoor aerials are poor for Freeview reception, and in an ideal world you should switch to using a rooftop aerial.

However, as switchover on the Oxford transmitter starts on Wednesday, you might want to wait.

Briantist. My postcode is HP21 9TZ. It's mainly ITV3 which is unwatchable and even sometimes shows no signal at all. It used to be fine so I have to assume it's something to do with the switchover as all my other channels are ok. I've got a new aerial, leads etc. I'll wait until the switchover is finished before I try anything else. Thanks for your response.

John J: Looking back across your old posts I think you may have gone overboard on the aerial, and something's overloading. If you have a booster, take it out. Try adding an attenuator.

If this *is* your problem it's about to get a whole lot worse, starting with Wednesday's power-up of the BBC multiplex.

Do also check that your box hasn't selected Sandy Heath on C31 rather than Oxford C51. Some boxes have an automatic overnight retune feature that happily overwrites a careful manual tuning of the correct channels!

Hello Brian,

You used to show potential conflicts for co-channel interference, but this has now gone. I am in a multi-transmitter area (LU1 4EH) and have two wideband aerials, one pointing towards Oxford, and the other to Sandy Heath. When Oxford switches tomorrow and later this month, I can see several conflicts as follows (some are existing, which already block signals from both the relevant transmitters):

14th September:
ch29: ArqB Oxford / D London
ch31: SDN Sandy / HD London
ch34: BBCA Oxford / C London
ch48: ArqA Oxford / ArqB Sandy
ch68: 2 Oxford / A Hemel

28th September:
ch55: ArqB Oxford / 2 Hemel
ch59: ArqA Oxford / B Hemel / D3+4 Luton
ch62: SDN Oxford / C Hemel

Could you please restore this facility, as it's really useful to see which signal is the strongest; for example both the Hemel and London signals are strong enough to cancel out Oxford at the moment, even though I have no aerial for London.

Talking of signal strength, both the London and Sandy signals are strong enough on BBCA / 1 and D3+4 / 2 to be picked up on the Oxford aerial, without signal break up!

Regards,
Nicholas

Hello Brian,

No. You used to list the conflicting signals and specifically state that (for example) on channel 51, the signal from Hemel Hempstead would be stronger than the signal from Oxford, meaning that the Oxford signal would not be received. The above link isn't as useful in this respect, as although it shows in detail the signal strengths, it doesn't say where one signal will overide another.

Nicholas: I see what you mean, let me have a think about how that might be shown. The problem is that it depends on where you point your aerial...

Mike Dimmick. Thanks for that advice, you may well be right and I will certainly try it. I have got a powered splitter so I'll begin by changing it to an unpowered one before putting in an attenuator. Then wait on the final switchover to see how all channels are. Thanks again

I live in Swindon, SN3 4UX, and my freeview signal has gone for the likes of BBC1-4, ITV,2, CH4...

This appears to have happened since Monday 12th.

Is there work going on to cause this?

Cheers.

Have been unable to watch freeview since last Thursday and was hoping that the problem related to switchover interference etc. Live in ox14 4ax and have roof aerial. Have been in to loft and no obvious problem with cables. Labgear distribution box is on as is power light to masthead amplifier. Sky is watcheable in all rooms via analogue but remaining analogue channels are poor with thick white band moving up the screen. When retuning today my old kitchen tv, using Phillips freeview box, found c71 freeview channels but signal strength was 5-15% with signal quality always being max of 30%. No picture or sound on any channel although program details are shown. Our toshiba tv with integrated freeview tuner does not find ant channels. Was wondering whether it was worth waiting until after next switchover date, 28 sept, before calling out aerial installer again? Views appreciated.

MH: I would have a look at www.ukfree.tv link icon Freeview reception has changed? | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice - the problems you have are nothing to do with the switchover.

Mike Dimmick. I have now tried taking out the powered splitter and have the aerial plugged directly into the freeview box (humax PVR). I had to manually tune again to get the oxford channels as it still wanted to pick up the Sandy channels first. All channels seem ok and are showing 100% quality and about 80% strength except the Mux A channels. It is not finding them at all and showing the signal strength and quality often jumping to '0' or very very low. So it doesn't seem that the splitter box made a difference.
I've checked the frequency which is set at 714000 but can't think of anything else to try. Do you think it could be the aerial direction is slightly wrong?

Please post a question, answer or commentIf you have Freeview reception problems before posting a question your must first do this Freeview reset procedure then see: Freeview reception has changed, Single frequency interference, and Freeview intermittent interference.

If you have no satellite signal, see Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' or 'Technical fault'

If you have other problems, please provide a full (not partial) postcode (or preferably enter it in box at the top right) and indicate where if aerial is on the roof, in the loft or elsewhere.
