Hi Am having real problems viewing MUX 2 & A Channels. Recently moved to a 12 month old property in OX18 1AP area. Have a BT Vision Box and a normal basic alba freeview box. Neither one is picking up very well and is drastically effected by weather changes. Is there going to be an increase of the output from the transmitter or are we doomed to a life of the more mundane channels? Any other suggestions would be very welcome.

Many thanks for the links Briantist. It would appear that I am suffering from the two frequency interference, however the aerial being used is only 12 months old, is outside on a highrise pole above the roof apex level. It has been suggested that I may get a better reception with a freeview booster by a colleague, are there different variations on the booster? Any recommendations?
Briantist

Mark Forkner: Boosters are not usually good for Freeview, but a masthead amplifier can work.

We have been getting good digital reception until recently in GL54 (Upper Rissington). The last few weeks BBC channels have been suffering regular interference and "pixelating" and audio loss. Not sure why still good reception from non BBC channels.

I'm experiencing problems with the oxford freeview transmitter. Everything has been great until last week whereby we’ve last 4 channels including ITV (3) and Channel 4(4). Are oxford carrying out any transmitter maintenance work or shall I blame this on the snow??

In the last couple of days I am experiencing poor signal quality on Mux 2 (ITV, Ch4). It has been fine until then for the last year. All other Mux's (channels) have excellant signal strnegth. I am 20 Km from the Oxford transmitter and had an aerial installer put a new system in for me a year ago.

I live in Thame, have a Sony Bravia with built in Freeview, and have struggled for the past three years to get (and then keep) MUX 2. Will this be an aerial issue, as I can get all the other MUX OK?

It seems a number of people receiving from the Oxford transmitter, including myself, are now experiencing problems with Mux 2 (ITVs etc) in that it has gone from (in my case at least) perfect to a constantly breaking up picture.. all seeming around the same timeframe too (approx. early February 2009). This would suggest a transmitter problem or at least configuration change. Can anyone 'in the know' comment on this?
Briantist
Wednesday 11 March 2009 6:04PM
Simon: The multiplex operators are not allowed to change the output levels, and they are computer monitored to ensure they are working 24/7.

Because of the different transmission mode that multiplexes 2 and A use, they tend to "go first" when you have problems.

We're just north of Banbury and have also lost our Mux 2 ITV channels. We've checked for 'single frequency interference' but with no joy. Clearly something is operating differently at the transmitter for all these people to be having problems.

I live in Witney and have had excellent reception for some years. However since about last weekend I cannot receive Mux A (Ch5 etc).

Has the transmitter changed?
Mike Dimmick
Friday 22 May 2009 9:41PM Reading
RB, in your area Mux A and B are at lower power than Mux 1 and 2, and Mux A also transmits on 64QAM which is more susceptible to interference. It could simply be atmospheric conditions, or another source of interference has been introduced, or it could be that your aerial has become misaligned (birds do fly into them, unfortunately). Check to see if your neighbours are having the same problem, and if not, get a reputable fitter to check your setup.

Is there any new ghosting or snow on analogue reception? This can indicate a new problem on the aerial.

I moved to the outskirts of Oxford recently and we're unable to pick up any decent signal on any of the ITV Freeview channels or channel 4. As per the comments above, some feedback on this would be fantastic. Thanks.

Up until about six weeks ago the BBC Four and 700 series radio signals from Oxford were excellent. Currently the signals are mostly bad or absent. Very occasionally we have a viewable BBC Four.

Any thoughts/recommendations would be gratefully received.

Mux B vanished just over a month ago - lots of people we know all over Oxford are reporting the same issue (loss of cbeebies), so it's nothing local within the property. We are less than a mile from the transmitter with clear line of sight. Mux 2 went awol for a few days back in March, so I just put this down to work at the transmitter despite nothing being listed.

Anybody have any ideas
alex comerford
Monday 20 July 2009 10:29AM Oxford
Briantist: It's definately not local analogue interference - everybody we know using freeview in Oxford has the same issue. I'm aware that that mux is 'below average' power so we already have a 'class 2' wideband antenna.
Briantist
Monday 20 July 2009 10:49AM
alex comerford: The transmitter is only 4km north-northeast of your location. The problem is probably the usual "64QAM" issue with the low power system, not specifically an "Oxford" issue, but everywhere that can get Freeview before switchover.

ITV and C4 decided more channels with less coverage was their preferred option.
alex comerford
Monday 20 July 2009 11:19AM Oxford
Agreed, except i'm talking about Mux B. Does the 64QAM issue apply to that as well?

Channel 4/ITV/More 4 Etc MUX2 all started to fall apart about a week ago and haven't really recovered since to the extent we are forced into watching those channels on analogue. BBC channels remain spot on. We're in Thame. I've seen it happen before and am blaming it on the weather but I've not see it happen for this long before.

I live in Cricklade laying between Swindon and Cirencester. Having purchased a DVD recorder in February I have had a number of problems with the unit, it has been returned twice so far, but I am still having problems with certain channels. I cannot tune in 16 variable channels from a mixture of Mux 2,A & D. With the unit switched on it then blocks 10 variable channels from Mux A, B & C to the TV. At the moment the aerial is pointing towards Oxford, would the reception improve if I aim it towards Mendip?

Regards

Have been experiencing the problem in Swindon (SN3 1DY).

Basically, plugging aerial (3 weeks old, mounted on roof) into back of Sony Bravia and installing picks up all channels, including ITV and 4.

However looping the aerial input through a Sky+ box (i.e aerial->Sky->TV) has made me lost ITV and 4. Thankfully I'm able to get them if the Sky box is taken out of the loop, but as soon as i connect the aerial to RF IN and then output from Sky RF OUT to the TV, ITV and 4 disappear.

alex: www.ukfree.tv link icon How do I change the RF output channel on a Sky Digibox? | ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002 explains how to change the RF channel number the Sky box uses. The default is C68, that used by Multiplex 2. Choose a value that is not used by the transmitter.
Briantist
Tuesday 11 August 2009 8:56AM
Martin Olney: You might first need to check that the DVD recorder is not outputting "RF" on any of these channels. C21, C22, C23, C24, C25, C26, C27, C28, C30, C31, C32, C33, C35, C39, C40, C41, C42, C43, C44, C45, C46, C47, C50, C66.

Have you got a wideband aerial? Oxford will give you a stronger signal.

I live near Woodstock and have had very little service from Mux 2,A & D for since July. My DVD is frequently requesting a retune (the other night, 3 times in the space of an hour) but most times is failing to find major channels like C4, E4 and Film 4.

Is it likely that the problem will pass (I enjoyed 2 years problem-free Freeview up until this year) or do I need to shell out for an aerial upgrade?

Since switchover I cannot receive any channels on C68, my telelevision shows full signal strength(10) but zero quality of data. I have a bang up to date state of the art Panasonic set and also have had a SKY HD box connected for over a year with no problems and have not changed any settings. Have attempted retuning several times but to no avail. Up until switch over digital reception on all channels was perfect. Reception on all other channels remains perfect. Any ideas?

Hi

I am also having problems with ch68 from this transmitter, in fact only since the day before the retune day. My set up was working fantastically until then and now, the picture and sound break up is so bad that its unwatchable a lot of the time. I am in OX26 6DU. I find it hard to believe that with so many people experiencing problems that there isn't an issue as a result of retune. I am also finding it frustrating that no one seems able to help, and I am being passed from pillar to post to try and resolve this issue.
