In preperation for digital switchover the analogue services of ch.3,4and 5 on the nottingham transmitter are intermittantly showing a caption at the top of the screen advising viewers that if they have not upgraded to a integrated digital tv or a set top box that they will start loosing programmes from march 30th [2011]

I am having trouble with my digital reception. Especially the non-BBC channels? Interference from mopeds breaks up the picture. channel 3,4,5 etc were unwatchable the last few nights is it possible that the generators from the funfair (Goosefair Nottingham; I live close by) is causing all the trouble?

Has mux2 been lost from the Nottingham transmitter? Retuned TV earlier today when TV informed me that any mux2 channel (ITV1, Five, E4 etc) was in a state of "no signal found" and now after the retune they can't be found.
Have a separate freeview box attached to a HD recorder (which I haven't retuned) and that still reports "no signal found". Your site also reports that the Nottingham transmitter isn't reporting any problems at present.

I had a similar problem with Mux2 last weekend (9/10/11 October). I retuned my box (Humax HDR FOX T2) on the Waltham signal and Mux 2 channels positioned themselves in the 800s whilst the "proper" slots were filled by Mux 2 signals from Kimberley. Did a manual retune in the end and all is sorted now.

Spent the whole week still missing Mux2 waiting for the weekend to be able to plug the TV into a neigbours' wideband aeriel pointing at the Nottingham transmitter. Sure enough Mux2 was picked up immediately. Went out and purchased a 32 element wideband aeriel which restored the missing multiplex. What I would like to know is why my original analogue aeriel (which successfully received all Mux's since the inception of Freeview and consequently wasn't upgraded) suddenly became inadequate as far as Mux2 was concerned?
Briantist
Thursday 28 October 2010 10:47PM
Phil: It tends to be like that with digital reception. As long as you have just enough signal quality, you get perfect reception. Just below, you get nothing.

The transmission mode of Multiplex 2 (64QAM) means that this is often effected first by failing equipment.

It is quite normal for aerials and cables to degrade over time, usually due to weather damage.

I live in West Hallam and when viewing BBC1 terrestrial I get East Midlands regional programs from Nottingham (which is what I expect) but when watching via freeview box I get Yorks/Lincs region. Both via the same aerial. Why is this - can I tune BBC1 to East Midlands on the freeview box?
Briantist
Friday 3 December 2010 10:42AM
Colin Atkinson: Go to channel 1 on your Freeview box and press CH- on your remote. You should find other BBC and ITV regions in the 800-899 channel range.

Otherwise you can work-around it by clearing all your channels and adding the six multiplexes in manually.

hi i live in a first floor flat in chilwell nottingham and have a lg lcd 42"SCREEN and when i go into the menu to look what signal strength i have is 53% and 100% quality so i brought a booster and the strength as gone up to 82% i had a digital aerial fitted about 6or 7 years ago my son lives in chilwell about 10minutes away from me and is picture from freeview is a lot better than mine and i dont think is is digital is there any advice you could give please
Briantist
Monday 13 December 2010 7:40AM
peter robinson: A booster will not improve the quality of the digital signal, and often boosting the power of the signal will reduce the quality of the signal.

I would just remove the booster, 100% quality is what you need.

You won't get any better pictures or sound with a stronger signal.

I am in Somercotes Alfreton (DE55 4NF) and my aerial points SE, would it be picking up Freeview from Waltham or Nottingham transmitter? Is there a way of finding out?
KMJ,Derby
Sunday 9 January 2011 5:40PM
Dezza: If your aerial is mounted with the rods horizontal and is pointing at 129deg. it is receiving from Waltham. If the rods are vertical and it is pointing at 146deg.it is receiving signals from Nottingham (Kimberley). A further check is the channels being received. Waltham currently uses C23, C26, C33, C42, C45, C49. Nottingham uses C29, C39, C53, C59, C63, C67. This is the case until 30th March after which alterations are made to the frequencies in use at both transmitters on various dates.

I have moved to new flat in Arnold, Nottingham. My aerial (according to a website) is pointing at Sutton Coldfield so I get Midlands news, I want East Midlands news. There is no other option on the channel list. How do I manually get this? Thanks Sam
Briantist
Monday 14 February 2011 6:55PM
Sam Turner: You have to point the aerial at a transmitter that has that region on it, such as Waltham. See www.ukfree.tv link icon BBC East Midlands map | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

I have a roof aerial which is pointing towards the Yorkshire transmitter as we were told the signal was too weak from the Nottingham one when it was installed. We get all programmes but some are weaker than others. My question is can I now have it pointed to the Nottingham transmitter in order to get local news? Someone told me that the Notts transmitter will broadcast in HD this month is this true? Will the signal be stronger?
Briantist
Sunday 6 March 2011 6:54PM
Keith Walker: Yes, you have to point at the appropriate transmitter to get the local news service.

Freeview HD starts from Nottingham on Wednesday 13th April 2011.

See "Comparison of analogue and digital signal levels" for details of the signal strength - basically 40W increases to 400W per multiplex.

Recently heard Nottingham transmitter will be switching before Sutton Coldfield.
When I put my aerial up I couldn't receive a good enough picture via the Nottingham transmitter. Just wondering, Briantist, with the transmitter being made more powerful, would I be likely to pick up a good signal from the transmitter?

I'm in the Alfreton (Derbyshire) area.

Thanks.

Mike Dimmick
Sunday 13 March 2011 2:10AM Reading
Ryan: your best bet will be to stick with the Sutton Coldfield transmitter. You're not expected to get any service from Nottingham, because there's a big hill in the way.

If you really want East Midlands news, you could use the Ambergate relay once that switches over in August, but you'd lose the commercial multiplexes, unless you got two aerials and a diplexer to combine signals from both aerials onto one cable.
