Mike: The technical reason is that the HD multiplex comes from a different transmitter at Lichfield and very low power (4kW) transmission.

Yesterday, while watching the TV, most of the freeview digital channels suddenly disappeared, except 17 channels of BBC4, Sky News, Dave, and radio channels etc after tuning. The tv has been retuned several times, the same result. The analog has the 5 channels. The DigitalUK was phoned to, but said there was no problem with transmitter. Can you please help?

jordan: Digital UK's aerial trade predictor shows a good chance of reliable reception from The Wrekin/Lark Stoke/Bromsgrove (already switched, but COM muxes on low power/busy channels) and from Brierley Hill. These predictions are based on a rooftop aerial, but The Wrekin is shown as 100% across the board after the COM muxes move to full power on 28 September (when Sutton Coldfield switches over). The PSB muxes are showing at 100% now.

Boosters generally do nothing useful. Try it without. They're only of any use if the receiver is particularly noisy (which Freeview boxes shouldn't be) or if the signal levels are so low that the box can't detect them reliably, but the interference is still very low.

jordan: Obviously local terrain plays a large part in reception possibilities where you are located, as the post code on your last posting gives glowing reports on both Sutton Coldfield and the Wrekin, although with the latter being variable on Mux A /SDN until 28th September.

This is in contrast to a test code (WV5 9HA - Wombourne Civic hall) based on the named location (P/Code inoperable!) you gave in the first posting, as the predictions on that indicated Sutton Coldfield as being out of the running, and with only three Mux's being possible from The Wrekin, with Ridge Hill also three but not brilliant!

"If" you are located at the last code given then I cant see any problems with an indoor aerial, indoor meaning loft and not facing into a water tank.

KT: You should report the problem either via the BBC reporting tool (see www.ukfree.tv link icon Broadcaster complaints details | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice ) or via the local council.

However, you may find the simply replacing your aerial leads with higher quality cables will fix the problem.

Briantist: Re: jordan, Yes! as I see that the Post Code has seemingly settled down, jordan having caused me an element of confusion by changing his "named" location of Wombourne (in original 27th posting) over to Cannock with a WS1 post code in the later posting on the 28th, then on the 29th (@ 10.11pm) returning again to the first named location of Wombourne with an operational post code of WV5.

Quite a distance (and reception possibilities) being involved between the two locations! of course unless there are two jordan's? although somehow I doubt it!

I posted this on Digital Spy tonight (2nd August) but looks like no-one could help me:

Did anyone watch the on-air mistake on BBC (West) Midlands Today tonight?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was watching in Analogue on Sutton Coldfield and was wondering if all analogue, freeview, freesat and Sky viewers were affected with the same as what I saw:

A couple of times, the broadcast switched to a recording of Antiques Roadshow!
As no other channel was showing that at the time, it couldn't have been an engineering switching break or anything.

I'm guessing the production team at The Mailbox, Birmingham pressed the wrong button to switch out Midlands Today and start playing a VT of Fiona Bruce presenting Antiques Roadshow!

I'm just wondering if this was a mistake, whether the mistake went out on all platforms or just certain ones?

Hope some others who saw this can let me know and what platform (analogue, freeview, freesat and Sky) they were watching it on.
Thanks.

Stuart O.: I don't know if this is what you saw, only on one of the previous Antiques Roadshow's one of the experts showed Fiona Bruce some designs of jewellery that he was hoping one day to see on the Antiques Roadshow. A woman who was watching the programme realised that she had one of the designs and on a programme the was broadcast a few weeks ago, presented it to the expert. This brooch was sold at auction for £31,000 and was mentioned on the Midland News today.

I heard about that story, NottsUK.
But what I saw was in the middle of one news item, nothing to do with antiques, then it cut to Antiques Roadshow, then it cut back to that same news item before it cut.

And it did the same a little later on by Midlands Today being cut out to an unrelated VT then back to it.

I thought that Nick and Suzanne would know about the production mistake and apologise to their viewers but this was neither not realised nor mentioned.

NottsUK: Something I forgot to say is that when the news items cut to show the Antiques Roadshow, the picture was quite a weaker reception during the AR broadcast periods, as though somebody had switched off the BBC1 signal at Sutton Coldfield and I was receiving a signal from another channel from another transmitter. But as I said, none of the other 4 channels was showing AR so don't know whaat happened really.

Earlier today I was able to watch BBC1 AND BBC2 through a Freeview + digital box. At the moment these two stations are not available - 18-30 hrs. All other stations are working OK so there is no fault with the box. What is happening?
I am not all that convinced that the forthcoming digital switchover is going to be trouble free.

Please post a question, answer or commentIf you have Freeview reception problems before posting a question your must first do this Freeview reset procedure then see: Freeview reception has changed, Single frequency interference, and Freeview intermittent interference.
