The symbol shows the location of the Fenton transmitter. Your Freeview box may report this transmitter as Sutton Coldfield as this the main regional transmitter. The Fenton transmitter covers 130,000 homes.

Freeview on Fenton requires aerial group/position AV, transmitter ERP 50W, at 241m -
The yellow area has the strongest signal from this transmitter, green areas are served by stronger signals from other transmitters, white shows low signal areas. See Overlap Map Key for details.

You may not be able to receive all the Freeview channels

Some channels on the Fenton transmitter have lower transmission power so you may receive only some of them.

Your cables, connectors and aerial may need upgrading to get all the Freeview channels.

If you are missing your electronic programme guide (EPG), your channel line-up is wrong or incomplete, you have no subtitles or the 'press red' services do not work, please try this reset procedure first.

Mux is an abbreviation of multiplex. The Effective power level takes into account the transmission mode - and does not indicate a fault condition.

Digital switchover process details

Digital switchover happens over a number of weeks, this is to allow people in areas who where unable to use Freeview before switchover time to purchase equipment before the analogue service is terminated.

Wednesday 6th April 2011

Notes

'Out of group' frequencies are marked with a star. Analogue power output 10,000 Watts, post switchover average digital multiplex output will be 1,286 Watts.

To receive signals from this transmitter, the aerial must be mounted for vertical polarization - the elements going from top to bottom.

Before switchover, the public service broadcasting multiplexes were 1, 2 and B; afterwards they were first PSB1, 2 and 3 but now called BBCA, D3+4 and BBCB. The commercial multiplexes A, C and D had initial post-switchover names COM4, 5 and 6; now they are SDN, ArqA and ArqB. At switchover BBCA, ArqA and ArqB will switch from 16QAM to 64QAM mode transmission, so five multiplexes will transmit in the 64QAM (2/3) 8k mode. BBCB is used for Freeview HD (DVB-T2, 256QAM), and has a pre-switchover service on selected main transmitters.

After switchover an existing group A aerial will provide all digital TV services.

We have the correct cables connectors and an aerial correctly positioned. We live only some 7 km from Fenton, in Bradwell, Newcastle (ST5 8LU). We have enjoyed ITV 3, E4, etc and now over this last week the picture is breaking up all the time, with blank screen and loss of sound and we are getting very fed up of it, viewing is now an evening of frustration and clicks. I have tried retuning but it makes no difference, any ideas to help.

Thank you

Thank you but unfortunately it doesn't seem to answer the problem. We have a class 2 aerial fitted vertically and pointing towards the Fenton transmitter. Has Fenton any problems,is there any plans to increase the strength of the signal.

Ann Taylor: Nothing is reported. The transmitter will increase in power at switchover, as listed at the top of the page. If you are only missing multiplex 2 (and not 2 and A), the problem is more likely to be local interference on transmission frequnecy, C30.

Ann Taylor: You may need either a larger aerial, or perhaps a masthead amplifier.

Good idea we'll try the masthead amplifier (we already boost the signal at the television) but that sounds well worth trying. Down to the aerial shop on Monday morning - husband on roof in the afternoon

Thanks (map)

Ann Taylor: Good luck. It's always best to boost the incoming signal at the aerial, rather than trying to do it further down the cable.

at this moment in time 200.04 7th Jan
we have no picture at all, and this has happened on a number of occasions over the last couple of mounths, but it is difficult to get anyone who can explain why this is happening or even remotly interested in the problem,in fact passing the buck seems to be the only answer,so I would be greatfull if you could shed any light on this matter.

I live in Barlaston, Stoke-on-Trent.For about 6 weeks I have had problems with 'blocking' and clicking on my new LCD tv.It only effects ITV (anologue) and Ch 4 and occurs every evening -starts around 4pm continuing throughout the night. However,if I switch the effected channels from tv to go through the DVD playerit doesn't happen. Why is this? An engineer who checked the aerial (situated outside) says its ok and the signal is fine.Could the problem be due to the atmosphere?

Since the September 2009 re-tune, channels on Fenton MUX-2 frequently freeze for a few seconds. Freeview reception has previously been fine since first installation and nothing has been changed. We live about one and a half miles from the mast and the aerial is line-of-sight. Why is MUX-2 on low power and is that likely to be the cause?

What is happening to our signal? Up until Monday of this week I was able to watch all Mux's with a TV card in my computer. No breakup, no stuttering.
ITV4 for the IPL and BTcc were great up to sunday evening now this channel together with all others on the same mux are now unwatchable. I did a scan with Scan channel BDA in January and all got 100% Now only 2 are at 100% the rest are from 71% down to 46%.
I have a new high-gain ariel and have made no changes in my system since Sunday evening. (map)

Thank you for a quick response.
I remain to be convinced that this is the problem, if it was I would have expected to have seen it previously. I had a new aerial installed about 2years ago. At this time the installer was able to tune all mux apart from channel 5 one. A search of the internet resulted in my phoning the Chanel 5 help desk and reporting a sips fault within days we had full reception on all channels. This has been the case since then. Just the odd pixel on an occasional channel. No stuttering etc until Monday morning when ITV4 is un-watchable. I performed the scanchannelBDA soon after installation to obtain details for a Linux install. All were at 100%. The last scan was in January when it was still the case But this week as I'm said previously The BBC mux's were at 100% but three others were at 71% down to 46%. This has been a very sudden change. I will monitor to see if the signal returns to what it has been for 2+ years. If it doesn't then I can only assume that there must have been some change made at the Fenton transmitter.
I cant think that advertisers would be pleased if this was the case. (map)

Alan Hewitt: There has been no change to the transmitter, your reception issues are to do with the atmospherics.
