I much appreciate all the advice - I shall let you know how it pans out. Just to express my sincere thanks to all that responded and helped with our problem. It turned out to be exactly what everyone was saying - over amplification! The TV engineer removed out old 30dB amp with lots of buttons (?) and replaced it with a lowely domestic one and hey-presto the whole site works!
Your help in pointing us in the right direction has proved invaluable and my thanks also go to TVAerialsUK!
Best regards

Shrewsbury We are at SY3 8NW and have a clear view of the Wrekin - but whenever it rains (or is foggy) we loose some or all digital reception on both our PVR (Humax) and TV (Panasonic) (TV tends to loose it first). For example today (1/1/11) at 6pm we cannot get BBC 1 or 2 but ITV1,C4 and C5 are ok. Suggestions welcome.Rob- It sounds as if you have water penetrating your aerial lead. If this is the case, I would contact an aerial contracter(CAI/RDI) sooner rather than later. RobFriday 7 January 2011 8:38AM
Shrewsbury Ok, many thanks.garyFriday 14 January 2011 8:06PM
Cannock will signal strength be increased from the wrekin after switch over as currently we can not recieve any itv chanels after dark post code ws12 0pw due to position of property the wrekin is clearest direction. sutton coldfeild is not an optionAllan GainerWednesday 2 March 2011 4:24PM
Wolverhampton I live, as you have noted, in Wombourne. At present I receive from Wrekin B via a roof-mounted aerial. I note that Wrekin B will no longer be transmitting after switchover. Will Wrekin be my best transmitter, or where; and will I need to realign my aeerial?Allan GainerThursday 3 March 2011 4:17PM
Wolverhampton Thanks, Briantist, no realignment necessary, then?Allan GainerFriday 4 March 2011 6:11PM
Wolverhampton Thanks again Briantist - I was confused by the fact that The Wrekin is shown on my page as being 28.0 km from my home, while Wrekin B is 28.1 km! Must be a very big mast!!Allan Gainer: Sorry, for any confusion, it shouldn't show itself 100m apart. It certainly is taller than 100m. Jim CorbettTuesday 8 March 2011 11:51AM
Can you tell me what time on April 6th and 20th the switch over will take place.
I understand that bbc2 analogue will be switched off on April 6th but can not find what the frequancies of the digital multiplexes will be transmited between 6 April and 20 April. Can you advise.Jim Corbett: The process starts at midnight and can take six to eight hours, depending on the transmitter.
The digital services continue to broadcast on the same frequencies until the final date, with the exception of PSB1 which broadcasts on the new frequency. Mike DimmickTuesday 8 March 2011 12:42PM
Reading Jim Corbett: see The Wrekin transmitter page for frequencies. Where two sets of frequencies are used, with the transmitting aerials pointing in different directions, this site shows one set as a 'B' transmitter.
After switchover is fully complete, the main aerial will transmit digital signals to (roughly) the analogue coverage area, and different aerials in different directions are no longer required.
The BBC A multiplex will start up on BBC One's current analogue channel, so BBC One will be moving to C33, BBC Two's current analogue channel, on 6 April.
On the 20th of April, D3+4 and the HD multiplex launch at full power and final mode. Mux A moves to C49 from the 'B' aerials (currently Mux 2), while Mux C and D swap over. This appears to allow Mux D to launch in its final mode as ArqB, giving capacity for Sky Sports. (Mux C will also be in the final mode as ArqA.)
The commercial multiplexes will reach their final frequencies, modes and powers on 28 September, when you will have to retune again.WimpyThursday 10 March 2011 12:34AM
I have clear line of sight to the Wrekin and live 13 km from the transmitter. Normaly as you might expect I get good signal quality and strength > 95%.
However at certain times the signals can drop as low as 50% causing a breakup of the picture.
Is this due to some changes at the transmitter or a problem within my reception/freeview box.
Thanks in advanceEric BeasleyThursday 10 March 2011 12:38PM
Halesowen i have recentley had an outside digital areial erected directed at wrekin. My new sony bravia television has an HD reciever installed, when will i be able to recieve HD programes. Eric Beasley: Wednesday 20th April 2011. Allan GainerMonday 11 April 2011 9:52AM
Wolverhampton Since the partial switchover on 6th April I have been able to retune most of my equipment, but have not been successful with my Alba STB8 set top box. Although I followed the instructions for a first time instalation; of the BBC channels, only BBC1 is consistently available. I get a NO CHANNEL message and a list of new channels and deleted channels which bear no resemlance to reality! Allan GainerMonday 11 April 2011 3:08PM
Wolverhampton Already tried that - still no joy!Allan Gainer: Sounds like the box isn't working, it is quite an old model, isn't it? BJThursday 21 April 2011 3:30PM
Wolverhampton I have a new outside aerial pointing to Wrekin.
After complete retune I now receive 58 channels whereas prior to retune I had 7 channels.
Please also advise how or when I can expect to receive the channels on:
COM5 - Arq A and COM6 - Arq B

Dunstable BJ: Some changes are being made at The Wrekin on 28th September this year. After that date, you should be able to get a perfect signal on all six mux's.
Hope this helps,
Adam.BJThursday 21 April 2011 5:07PM

Kidderminster hi just wondering if the wrekin transmitter is now at its strongest output, i live in kidderminster dy10 1lf, and unfortunately according to aerial installer i can only get a signal from the wrekin! my signal is pretty poor on some channels eg more four and itv3 and 5* and i cant get alot of the chanels such as itv4, pick tv, film 4 etc, my aerial is approx 18months old and is mounted on the roof, is this the best its going to get?KMJ,DerbySaturday 16 July 2011 5:56PM
terry: The COM muxes from The Wrekin are currently using temporary frequencies at low power. On 28th September 2011 the frequencies will be changed and power increased. The Digital UK postcode checker currently does not make any prediction for reception of the COM muxes from The Wrekin, after 28th September reception is shown as poor. It does however predict that you should already have a full Freeview service from Ridge Hill with good reception on all muxes, and after 21st September 2011 all six muxes should be available from Sutton Coldfield, all with excellent reception. These predictions are, of course, subject to no local obstructions such as trees or tall buildings blocking the signal path.AerialmanSaturday 16 July 2011 6:00PM
Terry, you should be able to receive all channels fom Wed 28th Sept,if you then do a first time installation.Channels such as ITV 3 5* wil be transmitted at a much higher power also.A1batmanWednesday 11 July 2012 10:25PM
Sandbach Central frequency range aerial on roof and can get all programs on mux's PSB1, PSB2, COM4, but not mux's COM5 & COM6. The TV's indicated signal strength and quality for rf channel 41 is 63% and 66% respectively. All programs on this frequency tune in okay, where as the sig level and strength for rf channel 44 is only 61% & 58% but no programs are found. Is this likely to be due to the lower power output level for mux COM5 although it's indicated as being the same output level as COM4 which gives me no problem. Is the power output going to be increased from the indicated 10Kw in the near future?
Kind regards from A1batman.
