David Parker: If your receiver doesn't automatically add them, then manually tune to channel 48 and it will hopefully add this new service. D

I just would like to know how many channels or stations can these muxs carry is there a limit say so many tv and so many radio channels. And I wonder when people say this transmitter is very powerfull, the power of Emley Moor when it transmitted on analog was 875kw now on digital it is 175kw to me that is a big cut in power. if we look at the maps that Brian as done it seams to cover the same area how does it do it,
ps dont go too deep into it I am only a simple guy

HI have you got any tv signals yet?J
Joseph KSaturday 7 April 2012 5:35PM
Hello all,
So last week I bought a cheap freesat box and hooked it into the building SAT line, and Freesat worked fine. Problem: no good channels, barely worth the trouble. More depressing to have TV with nothing worth watching than no TV at all, eh? What's with all the American shows, anyway?
I was only able to email my rental agency about the loss of Freeview signal, but never heard back; I could never reach the buidling manager or concierge...
I had to leave town for a few days and just returned a half hour ago, ran a scan again for Freeview, pessimistic as ever, and BEHOLD!
Suddenly my Freeview's back...! SO while the signal's been returned I am still in the dark as to what happened and how it was fixed. I don't know if my email actually had an effect or not-- but the signal was gone for at least 5 days...
So at least I get to watch Quest, Dave, and Yesterday again... hopefully I can depend on it...!D

Can you please tell me why ARQB is at 87kW from Emley MoorRon LakeTuesday 24 April 2012 12:28AM
Wakefield David Parker,
As it states further up this page ..ArqB subject to reactive power reduction of 87kW if required 'until further notice'...
I may be wrong, but I think it has something to do with interaction with another transmitter, which can only go onto its own channel when yet another one is changed to Digital.D

Thanks for your reply but I was understanding that all the transmiters in our area had been switched over.Oh hang on there is bilsdale yet to get switch over.

A cure for backache???....Curb your appetite for bedroom antics or use stronger elastic haha.
Seriously, backache would be regarded as off topic, don't know why, headaches seem to be a regular feature. I suppose we may be allowed a small amount of frivolity.T

Leeds Back in the analogue days, BBC2 suffered severe interference and dropouts whenever the wind blew (at least on my aerial system). SDN now has BBC2's old frequency and as I predicted, on a windy day like today, keeps pixellating and dropping out. Other muxes are not affected as bad. Why only this particular frequency?M
MikeThursday 26 April 2012 8:05PM
I am getting a poor signal reading on mux 44 for c4 etc. the others are all full power signal. Any reason?S

new channel on channel 117 called the space, retune requiredT
ThomasThursday 26 April 2012 9:37PM
Leeds "The Space" is on the HD mux (channel 41). New channels called '193' and '194' on those numbers, mux COM5/ArqA. Currently displaying a message saying 'adult channels have moved'.Mike.Hard to say without a full postcode or nearby location.I just did a check on the D3+4 multiplex on frequency 44 from the main Emley Moor mast and there is no poor signal you stated as such.If anything the signal quality on that multiplex is reading 100% while the signal strength reads 71%. Ron Lake,Wakefield.
Tuesday 24 April 2012,12.28am.
Your point is correct. The 87kw restriction on ArqB from Emley Moor on frequency 48 is necessary to prevent the possible swamping of the lower powered pre-digitally switched Mux 1 10kw multiplex also currently broadcasting on frequency 48 from the Pontop Pike main transmitter. This restriction ends in the early hours of Wednesday 26 September 2012 when DSO2 is eventually completed at Pontop Pike after Mux1 is forever switched off as a result. David Parker.
Tuesday 24 April 2012,8.48am.
No,Bilsdale along with Pontop Pike and Chatton are still broadcasting analogue and low powered digital signals until DSO1 commences on Wednesday 12 September 2012 and DSO2 concludes two weeks later on Wednesday 26 September 2012.All three above North East England main transmitters switch simultaneously. D

Thanks for your reason for why Emley Moor is on low power on this mux.
All the best
DavepRon LakeSaturday 28 April 2012 1:48AM
Wakefield Dave Lindsay,
I would think that these things were all worked out prior to switchover even starting. I suppose its possible to monitor the signal power, but I doubt if Ofcom have any facilities for adjusting power output from any transmitters remotely, just the 'power' to require the operator to do this. D
David ParkerSaturday 28 April 2012 12:00PM
Dave Lindsay
Sorry if I apear a bit thick are you going to tell me that the power of Emley Moor goes as far as Newcastle.I can get a very week signals from Bilsdale on the old analog, but that trasmitter is a lot closer.
all the best
DavidpDavid Parker: I think that it is possible that Emley Moor's signal could interfere with the Pontop Pike. This would seem to be the only logical explanation for C48 to have this restriction placed on it until the date that Pontop Pike ceases use of that channel.
The "low" power of 87kW is still very high and is higher than quite a few other main stations. So evidently it is anticipated that any potential interference would only be caused above 87kW. B
Betamax_manSaturday 28 April 2012 9:53PM
York David Parker: If you look at the predictions on the map at the top of this page, you will see that reception is possible well into the Pontop Pikes area from Emley Moor, and in my experience, the signal can be received quite a distance outside this area.
I live close to York, yet can receive signals from Winter Hill and Waltham as well as the local Bilsdale, Emley Moor and Belmont transmitters.D

Hi can i please ask you what sort of aerial have got up,are you certan you can get Waltham and

David ParkerSaturday 28 April 2012 11:36PM
Dave Lindsay
Hi Dave what I find strange is that people who live in Bradford find it hard to get a signal, but people in newcastle can, very strange
all the best
davepDavid Parker: But Bradford is on the edge of the Pennines and as such the terrain goes up and down. Those who are down in the valleys will therefore be quite a way off having line of sight and therefore will have difficulty, which is why relays such as Idle and Wharfdale exist.
The fact that this is the case does not stop the signal going further for those who do have line of sight. It is not solely the distance from the transmitter but what degree of line-of-sight there is!
I believe that the coverage map at the top of this page assumes an omnidirectional radiation pattern as the powers that be won't release them. The green area reaches County Durham so a signal strong enough to cause interference may go further. D

David Parker: I have an 18 element group B aerial which is pointing toward Emley Moor. To stop signals from other TX's I have a group B band pass filter. A very good source of information is available here:
Aerials, TV Aerial and Digital Aerial
On a side note, yes it is possible to receive Waltham here. I actually have a three element DAB aerial pointing at Waltham for Smooth Radio in stereo, as the national version is now only mono. (YO422QG) Dave Parker. No problem at all.I'm glad to be of valuable assistance to you. D

I have recently bought a freeview box but find I can only get about 12 channels mostly BBc1,2,3 and ITV1,2 Ch4 & 5 why cannot I get all the other programmes advertized on the box and will I be able to in the future K
KMJ,DerbyTuesday 1 May 2012 12:19PM
Marie Turner: Could you give more information with regard to your location, such as a postcode, so a check can be made on predicted reception. The number of channels you are able to receive depends on which transmitter the aerial is pointing to and may be affected by the type of aerial and in the case of communal aerials (and some domestic installations when two aerials are coupled together) the presence of filters.M
Marie TurnerTuesday 1 May 2012 4:21PM
Hebden Bridge My postcode is HX7 8BL my ariel is pointing to a booster transmitter on the hillside right across from my house. Marie Turner,Hebden Bridge. The answer is that the Hebden Bridge relay is a lite transmitter only broadcasting the public service multiplexes BBCA,D3+4 and BBCB (HD).It does not and will not broadcast the commercial multiplexes SDN,ArqA and ArqB due to costs involved in providing full freeview coverage on minor relay masts or lite transmitters as they are familiarly known as.I take it the freeview box you bought is a non-HD box hence only two multiplexes the BBC channels and the ITV1,Channel 4 and Channel 5,etc you get at your location. Dave Parker. No oddly enough i dont, well not yet anyway but one possibility could be more HD programming and multiplexes being switched on and ultimately the normal SD programming and multiplexes gradually becoming fewer and ultimately being switched off altogether possibly by 2030.
The true pros on here of course will elaborate more fully as such.
