Hi, following switchover all channels now missing on two Sharps and an Hitachi, switched off, retuned with no aerial, retuned again with aerial but nothing. Sony retuned OK, I can see Emley moor albeit in the far distance and aerial/cables seem fine, have a booster in the loft feeding all, any ideas appreciated thanks.

As well as the changes to channels there are changes to the transmision spec. by the BBC and it is known that some boxes and TV sets will no longer recieve.
jb38
Thursday 8 September 2011 4:59PM
Rob: As well as what David mentioned possibly applying, it could also be that Emley Moors PSB1 is giving an over powerful signal for the boxes concerned and which can block some equipments tuners from receiving anything, so for a test try by-passing your booster.

Not sure on the full power statement JB38 from my chat with Digital UK in town this afternoon.
But I think you more likely to right than them but I will say what they said.
The BBC channels from Belmont and Emley Moor have increased in power but to only half of full power not untill next stages do they go fullpower when the other channels do.
jb38
Thursday 8 September 2011 6:03PM
David: My information is that Emley Moors PSB1(BBC1) and PSB3(HD service) are both on full power

As far as Belmont is concerned only two Mux channels, ArqA(Ch53) and ArqB(Ch60) are temporarily on low power (@ 4Kw) until November 23rd when they then increase to 100Kw, SDN presently being at, and staying on 50Kw.
Mike Dimmick
Thursday 8 September 2011 6:13PM
jb38: PSB3 has not yet started, let alone on full power. Remember that Emley Moor has had a low-power HD service since mid-2010 - it is still running on C39 at 4kW, on a restricted antenna.

At DSO2, on the 21st, the low-power HD service will end and the final HD service (aka PSB3, BBC B) will start up on C41.
Mike Dimmick
Thursday 8 September 2011 6:14PM
Briantist: You should correct the PSB3 display at the top of the page - hasn't yet happened, still on C39 at 4kW.
Briantist
Thursday 8 September 2011 6:18PM
David: That is plain wrong, BBCA is on full power at DSO1 at all transmitters with no exceptions.
Mike Dimmick
Thursday 8 September 2011 6:19PM
Dave Bell: Mux A has moved from C43 to C52, taking over Mux 1's old frequency. This is because it clashes with Sutton Coldfield BBC A.

Emley Moor used Sutton Coldfield's analogue channels for low-power digital, and vice versa. That's why both transmitters, and all their relays, have to switch over on the same days. They're certainly not doing it for the engineers' health!
Briantist
Thursday 8 September 2011 6:21PM
Mike Dimmick: Yes, I will have to sort that out, it seems to be an atrifact caused by the code.

Question 1/ I see mention on BBC1 etc ... " can also be watched on the BBC1 HD channel" . I have 3 freeview receivers but don't see any 'alternative BBC1 ' Just ONE BBC1 channel. Can anyone explain please ?
Question 2/ Im'e still very digruntled re my boxes Digifusion and Sony. Both carry the digital tick ( meaning theyre future proof !) Yet both have no EPG and no-one , freeview , digital tick , Sony etc will do anything about it. So ... whats the point of the Digital Tick ?

Ken: BBC One HD is at Freeview position 50, as shown above. You need a Freeview HD (DVB-T2) receiver to see the Freeview HD service. See www.ukfree.tv link icon What does "Full HD Ready" actually mean? | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

The "Digital Tick" means the box will work with DVB-T2 in 8k mode, it does not mean an EPG or Digital Text or anything else, just that you can use it view TV after switchover.

Hi

We are at S42 6RH. We have two aerials on either ends of the roof. One continues to receive digital signals. One now has nothing at all (but used to be ok). Both have old aerials. The (now failed) aerial was set up by myself by eye. It was pointed slightly to the west of the other aerial. Over the past few weeks it has changed from strong on the BBC channels and weak on ITV to the other way around - but never strong on both sets. I would welcome advice (I am more of a satellite person that aerial - but like to think that I am reasonably competent with a spanner and ladder!)
jb38
Thursday 8 September 2011 8:38PM
Mike Dimmick: Yes, thanks for that, as I was just really going by what I seen listed on the transmission details at the top of the page as far as Emley's HD was concerned.

Briantist: Thanks for the confirmation that Emley's BBCA is indeed on full power at Emley, that is as well as the other stations that have carried out DSO1 switches.

Briantist
Thursday 8 September 2011 9:01PM
jb38/Mike Dimmick: I'm a little confused about if Multiplex A has moved or not. There is no mention of this in stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk link icon http://stakeholders.ofcom….pdf or www.digitaluk.co.uk link icon http://www.digitaluk.co.u….pdf .

Or am I getting confused by people calling BBCA as Multiplex A in error?

Sorry, had a busy day and was keeping up via tablet and 3G mobile, not sure if I have taken in everything correctly.

Also touchscreen keyboard an no spell checker doesn't help.

David: Yes, as per www.ukfree.tv link icon TVs and boxes that do not support the 8k-mode | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice . This is to increase the robustness of the signal by increasing the number of carriers in the signal to 8,000.

You may find that removing the amplification device (or turning it down) will improve matters.

jb38: There is a LOT of data to keep a handle on, and rather annoyingly Ofcom publish a lot of their in PDF document you can't import.

The main issue today was just a programming error based on an assumption I made about six years ago.

It is amazing how much people get "on your case" when they discover a small error in the 733.4 megabytes of database that drives the site.

Still, I am always grateful when people point things out, because they get fixed that way!

Hello guys. Fairly straightforward question I hope. Until yesterday 7/9/11, my LG 50in tv picked up all digital channels perfectly. Now I can't get any ITV channels. I live on high ground with a perfectly uninterrupted view of Emley Moor and obviously have not altered ny roof ariel etc. The LG does not have a manual tune for digital signals. Are things likely to improve on the 21st, or do I need to take some action please? Thanks in advance.

Briantist - thanks for your response. I coupled the tv to the other (working) aerial - all ok. I can only think that the aerial that has suddenly stopped working is either pointing at a different transmitter (maybe Emley) - or that is has a fault (which seems odd as it has happened at the same time as the Emley change). Any other ideas much appreciated

Hi Briantist. Did all the stuff you suggested with the same result. However, on checking the entire channel list following the retune, I have found that all the ITV channels are actually there - but they are all numbered differently. ie ITV1 is numbered 801 instead of 3. So when I select '3' I get 'poor signal' displayed and a hopeless picture/sound. But as stated, selecting channel 801 gives perfect ITV1 reception. It is as if the set has tuned to what it thinks should be the correct channel - but it isn't. No idea why this should happen. I'm sure you could shed some light on it though - I'm fed up with messing with it now so I'm off to bed!

Following on from my earlier post,my set-top box have both automatic and manual scanning options. In my circumstance which i mentioned previously about receiving 3 multiplexes from the main Belmont transmitter,i performed the manual scan and as i prefer extra channels, this is the better option.First i performed all 6 Emley Moor multiplex frequency scans on channels 40,46,47,49,50,52,perfect,including 14 temporary duplicate BBC channels presently on programme no's 800-813 (presently on channel 46,Mux B),plus i manually rescanned the 3 multiplexes from Belmont on channels 22,25,30,again perfect, these are on programme no's 814-868.Now until Wednesday 21 September 2011,the date when Emley Moor finally goes totally digital and also the next date for my next manual retune,i now have 174 programme channels on my Freeview+ non-HD set top box. Finally if any other Emley Moor viewers who pick up Belmont multiplexes instead of their own but would like to retain the Belmont duplicates as extra channels, the best option is a manual scan as an automatic scan stores 4 of 6 Belmont multiplexes on channels 22,25,28,30 first before Emley Moor's channels 39-52 at present,41-52 after final switchover, and after Wednesday 23 November 2011,Belmont's last 2 multiplexes on channels 53 & 60 which increases in strength from then onwards. The result would be most if not all Emley Moor's channels will be on programmes 800 upwards, while Belmont's will be stored first lower down.If Emley Moor viewers don't want Belmont duplicates and there is only an automatic scan option available, plug out the aerial as the automatic scan begins before channel 22 is reached, plug in the aerial before it reaches channel 39,then unplug the aerial again after channel 52 is stored,as after 23 November 2011 once Belmont's last 2 multiplexes on channels 53 & 60 increases in power,it may store these frequencies as well.

Interesting to hear from people just over the hill from Halifax in nearby Bradford, especially to the south and west of that city which i have noticed some external horizontally polarised aerials pointing towards Bilsdale transmitter, which will not switch over to digital until September 2012,and i believe is the last main transmitter to switch over.If this is the case these Bradford households are watching their local news bulletins from BBC1 North East and Cumbria, and ITV 1 Tyne-Tees (now Tyne-Tees & Border news).Plus i have observed some Halifax households whose external horizontally polarised aerials pointing towards Winter Hill transmitter, thus watching BBC1 North West and ITV 1 Granada news bulletins,as Winter Hill switched over to digital on Wednesday 2 December 2009.
