Poor Quality on digital channels except bbc1,2 keeps freezing then getting message low quality signal, then picture comes back. Only had new aeriel a few months never had this problem until the last couple of days I have checked connectors there all fine after some advice if there's a problem with Emley Moor ie work or any other problems before calling out aeriel guy as the work is still under guarantee.

Thanks in advance Postcode (S35 4GD) Emley Moor Transmitter

Since monday 16th may I have been unable to listen to the hits radio station on freeview 711. Until that time I had no problems but the page just says no signal. How can this be when all the BBC stations work perfectly fine. I am also unable to get other independent stations such as Kerrang.

This is very frustrating. Could it be anything to do with the digital switchover?

Sunday 22 May 2011 3:43PM
Caz: The BBC radio stations are carried on MuxB (MuxBBCA after switchover). However Kerrang and The Hits are both carried on MuxD/MuxArqB. You are missing MuxD on C49- so need to check for interference from a VCR or Sky box with the RF modulator set around C48/49. Also check that cables and connectors are in good order. This Mux has a lower power than the rest to minimise interference to Mux1 from Waltham in overlap areas. As a result it is likely to be the first one to be affected by poor connections or trees in leaf in the signal path. If you are within range of Waltham it is also possible that the East Midlands Mux1 signal is blocking your MuxD reception.

Grant Franklin: To the south of Emley Moor, you can fall into the overlap area of Emley Moor and Sutton Coldfield. This is a problem at present as each uses the other's analogue channels for low-power digital.

It's why they're switching over on the same day. At switchover, high-power digital signals at each transmitter replace the analogue channels, so they no longer overlap, but if you did either one first you'd wreck low-power digital at the other.

Digital UK predicts a low chance of reliable or even 50% reliable results on Multiplex 1 at the moment (Sutton Coldfield uses this channel for Mux C). It shows no prediction for Mux 2, A, B and C which are the channels clashing with Sutton Coldfield analogue services.

BBC1 and BBC2 are having huge problems again today, this has been teh same for the last couple of weeks, i'm getting fed up not being able to watch tv!
Thomas
Monday 23 May 2011 9:17PM Leeds
On days with high pressure, the Inversion Effect can mean that Sutton Coldfield's transmissions reach as far as Yorkshire. Since Sutton Coldfield's analog frequencies are the same as Emley Moor's digital ones, the analog signal from there can interfere with your Freeview reception.

This also works the other way round; Emley Moor's transmissions spilling into Sutton Coldfield's area. After switchover, the frequencies will be different and this will no longer be an issue.

Note that there have been high winds in many parts of the UK over the past few days, so a rooftop aerial may well be blowing around and losing signal - particularly if it's mounted on a long pole.

Just rescanned my TVs and Challenge has been moving around - first to channel 20 and then to channel 800! This has happened on all my TVs. The older box also registers TPS on 801 now.
None of the other channels are affected - are they doing some tests or maintenance with this channel at Emley Moor?

Is it just me, or has Channel 5 analogue from Emley Moor recently gone VERY weak? We've never had a high quality picture from Channel 5 at our location, but in recent weeks the quality is getting worse to the point where it's almost impossible to watch! The other four analogue channels seem ok though.

Thankfully, after switchover nothing will be using the Channel 5 analogue frequency, so it's probably not a cause for concern.

Briantist, it might be an idea to remove that 'upgrade to a Wideband aerial' advice from the top of the page. All of Emley Moor's channels, both pre-DSO and the provisional post-DSO, fall within the B group. Channel 56 does not appear on any Ofcom allocation tables for Emley Moor as yet.

melvyn: The two muxes that you are missing are both transmitted at lower power than the rest, so would be expected to be affected first by any deterioration in the aerial condition, cable/connector fault or obstruction in the signal path. It could be that trees in leaf are currently reducing the level of signal being received by your aerial.

Please post a question, answer or commentIf you have Freeview reception problems before posting a question your must first do this Freeview reset procedure then see: Freeview reception has changed, Single frequency interference, and Freeview intermittent interference.

If you have no satellite signal, see Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' or 'Technical fault'

If you have other problems, please provide a full (not partial) postcode (or preferably enter it in box at the top right) and indicate where if aerial is on the roof, in the loft or elsewhere.
