I am receiving BBC digital signals from my aerial which is configured for Kimmeragh at 1.5 miles line of sight except for trees. You state that Kimmeragh cannot provide "test signals" in advance of switch over.
Can you therefore please tell me the likely source of this new signal so that I can realign my aerial and futhur improve it? It shows 100% solid on the test page but in fact suffers from intermittant break up.

N.B. Your postcode facility does not recognise Isle of Man postcodes although the U.K. Royal Mail does.

Malcolm: Yes, this is a problem, but the service I used to translate postcodes doesn't support them. If you have a few thousand pounds for me to get the list from Royal Mail, I will gladly add them to the site!

Digital TV from Kimmeragh Isle of Man ( line of sight) is not yet as reliable as analogue. I have paid for new TV's, new correct aerial, new cabling. Most of the time it has been good with occasional pixilation and the bin wagon and low flying helicopters cause havoc. However 21 Oct 2009 things are very bad indeed. Signal on for about 30 seconds then off for about 30 seconds and this has been most of the morning and still as I write. When it is on it is 100% solid, no pixilation problems. I put a signal meter on the end of the lead and this shows solid signal then total dropout then solid signal etc.

If anyone else has this problem PLEASE PHONE the IOM Broadcast Commission. They have only had 2 complaints so far. Should we pay for a service that does not deliver ?

The ongoing problems with the Kimmeragh Tx are due to a faulty fibre optic link from Douglas to Jurby. There was a problem post switchover with the radio link from Jurby - Albert tower - Kimmeragh. Arquiva know about the problem and are trying to sort it.

Arquiva have now decided that the problem is still being caused by the radio link from ramsey to kimmeragh & are awaiting planning permission to reposition the feeder antenna on the albert tower. Freesat anyone?

hi, we are still having problems with reception from the Kimmeragh repeater at Bride, Isle of Man. Our post code is im75at.
generally in the early evening we just get total pixalation or no signal. At all other times we get momentary freeze about every ten minutes.
We have ensured alignment and have two separate aerials for two tv's and two separate co axials. one system runs through a booster, one doesn't, same symptoms from both.
we have followed all published procedures but have always had this problem since inception.
we can't get other transmitters because of the lie of the land.

any ideas for us to try please ??

B.Denham: Firstly, if you haven't already done so, confirm that you are tuned to Kimmeragh and not one of the other transmitters:

PSB1 | BBC One | Kimmeragh=C44 | Jurby=C46
PSB2 | ITV1 | Kimmeragh=C41 | Jurby=C43
PSB3 | BBC One HD | Kimmeragh=C47 | Jurby=C50

The UHF channel number that is tuned is usually given on the signal strength screen.

I have made a number of other observations that might be of help:

The Digital UK Installer Newsletter published at switchover is here:

www.digitaluk.co.uk link icon http://www.digitaluk.co.u….pdf

It says that the channels used by Kimmeragh are outside of the old analogue Group. Prior to switchover it used Group C/D channels (top third of the band) and after it uses Group B channels (middle third). A C/D aerial may be OK where the signal is stronger, but the more of a marginal area it is, the more likely that this could be an issue.

For an explanation of aerial groups, see:
www.ukfree.tv link icon Freeview reception - all about aerials | ukfree.tv - 10 years of independent, free digital TV advice
www.aerialsandtv.com link icon Aerials, TV Aerial and Digital Aerial

The DUK Newsletter also says that at DSO Jurby (and Ramsey) became full PSB transmitters. Prior to switchover they carried BBC One and BBC Two only so as to give NW programming to those receiving ITV1 and Channel 4 directly from Caldbeck.

If you can receive signals from Jurby, but discounted it in the days of analogue simply because it only carried BBC channels, then you may be able to realign your aerial on it as it carries all PSB services now. Like Kimmeragh, it is Group B, but your C/D aerial "may" work.

Jurby (40W) operates as a Single Frequency Network (SFN) with Beary Peark (200W) and Port St Mary (2kW). This means that they all broadcast on the same channels (frequencies), as allowed by the digital system. Hence in areas where they overlap, the sum of the two is received.

Finally, come the Northern Ireland switchover on 24th October, you "may" be able to receive the full complement of Freeview services from Divis. The channels used for Divis and Kimmeragh/Jurby are such that two aerials could be combined (diplexed) into one downlead if you would prefer to watch North West programming instead of that of Ulster.
