Hi
I am getting a broken signal, squiffy sound and picture on coms 4,5 and 6. Worse on 5 and 6.
This has been like this for as long as I can remember. I am in a top floor flat and I presume I have a shared aerial. I am knowledgeable enough to do all basic interference and connection tests. I have a booster from the wall and a split aerial feeding 2 freeview boxes. I have plugged direct to socket, rewired the socket and connections. I have basically eliminated all causes except the aerial.
Should I contact the property management company or just install a loft aerial?
Many thanks

rob: As you are not that terribly far away from the transmitter I would be inclined to try a test using a set top aerial or a piece of wire about 12" long pushed into the inner part of the aerial socket, and if a picture of sorts is obtained then a simple loft aerial could be fitted as that should be suffice for satisfactory reception.

And with regards to the communal aerial, it might be prudent to ask any neighbours that you might be friendly with if they are also experiencing any of the problems you are having.

Why does STV+1 on Freeview from Cragkelly have poor crackly sound. This has been the case since the Channel launched.
STV do nothing about it.
ITV+1 sound on Sky is perfect. STV prevent its viewers from having ITV+1 on Sky because of its contract with Sky.
Does STV+1 from Blackhill have similar sound problems.
Why is this problem not being fixed.

Last weekend (22/23 Sept) I lost access to a number of freeview channels including ESPN which I subscribe to via BT Vision. I have attempted to retune and reran my setup but they still don't appear. Can anyone say whether channel 34 (ESPN) will be resurrected for me?

COM6/ARQ-B/MUX-D (or whatever it is referenced as - it includes Film4, Yesterday, Sky News, AlJazeera, etc) HAS MOVED as of Sept 15 2012 approx...

Was channel 39 / 618mhz. >>>>> Now channel 47 / 682 mhz

May be hard to retune either manually or auto or combo, but when signal found and tuning update is successful the new frequency much better/stronger than old! Worth the hassle.. and anyway the channels no longer appear on old frequency :-)

Our tv is a sony bravia with freeview and hd enabled, we have this coupled to a humax hdr fox t2 digital recorder. we constantly get a broken picture and failed recordings. when picture break up occurs we can switch to tv reception with out going through humax and picture usuall ok. we also run a small tv in the kitchen from the same ariel, using a splice, this set rarely gets break up. Strangely each tv receives different versions of the programme, ie weather and news on sonyhumax is Aberdeen biased!!! when tuning/retuning humax we are given only 2 areas to tune from. 1 Scotland North and 2 Scotland Central. being in the Central Belt of Scotland we tune humax to Central?? I have just done some online searching and find that Craigkelly appears to be the transmitter we should use. Advice please

Rowland Nicholson: Referring to the Humax box, select BBC1 and carry out a signal condition check, as along with the signal strength / quality being indicated the mux channel associated with the indications will also be seen and if its from Craigkelly it should be Ch27.

You should also carry out this check on the remaining muxes which should come up with the following "if" all are being received from Craigkelly.

ITV (Ch24) / HD service (Ch21) / ITV3 (42) / Pick TV (Ch45 / Film 4 (Ch39)

The other point is, that you would be much better to use a powered splitter to feed the signals to each device, as this guarantees that each device will be getting the exactly the same level of signal as well as what they are getting being slightly boosted.

By the way, you are indicated as being at 18 miles away from the transmitter.

Sorry, I've only just come to this thread and seen your problem of area selection, which is exacly what I get too.

My solution may not be totally to your satisfaction, but it does seem to have worked for me.

Incidentally, I am near Dunbar and my preferred transmitter is Craigkelly too, although I can also get strong signals from Black Hill, Angus and Durris.

What I do is let it do its full automatic scan, and then do a manual scan on one channel, which is obviously 24, to ensure I get the Edinburgh STV service. I think that then becomes the default signal for all the channels on that MUX.

It doesn't seem to compromise the box's ability to do auto scans. For example, it has just found BBC1 Scotland HD, which only came on stream yesterday.

I hope this is helpful.

I replaced my roof aerial with a loft aerial to see i I could improve reception. The installer was adamant that it was correct direction for Black Hill but I still seem to get STV from Edinburgh. I tried a set top box and found I could get Glasgow by aiming at approx 120 degrees instead of 80. That was some time ago, and I've just tried again to see if by some miracle it had improved, but no luck. I'm 86 year of age and would appreciate any advise.

John Fotheringham: It's possible that your TV is tuned to Craigkelly with the aerial pointing at Black Hill.

The signal strength screen usually says which UHF channel (frequency) the set is tuned to.

BBC One | Black Hill=C46 | Craigkelly=C27
STV | Black Hill=C43 | Craigkelly=C24
BBC One HD | Black Hill=C40 | Craigkelly=C21

ITV3, Pick TV and Film4 should be tuned to channels 41, 44 and 47 respectively, although it's less likely that anything else will have been picked up.

Because Craigkelly uses lower channel numbers it will have been found before Black Hill during the automatic tuning scan. If your receiver goes with the first it finds then that might explain why it's done what it's done.

The trick is to unplug the aerial lead for the first 30% (or until it gets past UHF channel 30) so as to miss out Craigkelly (and Darvel come to that).

All channels except ITV 3 good quality and reception. Can you explain why this one channel is so poor. Picture all noise and very poor quality. I have a Panasonic Viera Plasma TV
J
jb38
Monday 11 February 2013 11:53PM
Ian Ireland: You should carry out a signal strength / quality check on mux Ch42 (ITV3) (this called "signal condition" on most Panasonics) noting whats indicated and then do likewise on mux Ch45 (Pick TV etc) then comparing the two readings, and although you have not mentioned any time factor being involved I was wondering if the problem has just started recently? or has ITV3 always been inferior, because if it has then moving the aerial a fraction to the left or right sometimes clears that type of deficiency even although you are relatively close to the Craigkelly transmitter.
