I am having terrible problems with reception on all BBC channels on all my TV's.
Pixilation, total loss of picture.
It happened in May but was OK again for a while, now started again...any help appreciated.

Black Mountain (very close to Divis) will transmit the special NI Mux on channel 37 at 2kW from 24 October 2012. This Mux carries RTE1, RTE2 and TG4 - however it is likely rights restrictions will prevent some sports coverage from being transmitted (BT808NU)

Anne: If you are referring to Freeview (analogue still being in operation) then you are predicted to receive BBC from the Divis transmitter as your local Leitrim relay station will not be in operation until October 10th as far as BBC is concerned.

However BBC from Divis is only transmitting on 2.3Kw and with it being at approximately 25 miles away irrespective of what the predictor might show I would expect problems such as you are experiencing until October 10th when Divis BBC changes to high powered operation @ 100Kw.

jb38 - yes it's freeview. I have been in the house for 18months and all the BBC channels were fine until May this year. The other channels - ITV, Ch4, CH5 etc... are all fine - no problems at all.

Anne: Thanks for confirming that, but though as far as the problem is concerned there is work always going on at the station in preparation for high powered switchover in just over a couple of months and your difficulties could possibly be caused by this, the last notice to this effect made in July 9th and this certainly will not be the last.

Apart from that the other possible reasons for problems of your nature can be caused by seasonal atmospheric changes allowing distant stations on the same frequency to interfere with a local station, but I still feel that the aforementioned is more likely to be the cause.

Anne: Digital UK's postcode checker shows that your reception from Divis should be OK post DSO. The PSB (Freeview Lite) channels from the local Leitrim transmitter should also be very good.

No mention of the NI mux from Black Mountain, but you should get adequate Saorview reception from Clermont Cairn once it increases power on the 24th October.

Failing all that, Freesat would be the other option.

As you say, DSO can't come soon enough.

Hi will the divis transmitter have a strength upgrade before the digital switchover as my picture quality is clicky and jumpy when windy or heavy rain.And as we all now thats 6 months of the year minimum here in n ireland.My equipment is new and good 75 per cent of channels work well at present.

Roll on October when hopefully this will all be a thing of the past.

Noel: I cant really see your situation improving until October 24th when Divis (@ 32 miles) switches over to full power operation, as the multiplex that ITV4 uses is only transmitting on 1.6 Kw whereas it will 50kw as from the date mentioned, the reception in your area presently predicted as being non existent on some channels and poor on others, the ArqB mux that ITV4 uses being the only one of the five with a prediction in the green, this being good. (in theory anyway!).
