Notes

'Out of group' frequencies are marked with a star. Analogue power output 8 Watts, post switchover average digital multiplex output will be 2 Watts.

To receive signals from this transmitter, the aerial must be mounted for vertical polarization - the elements going from top to bottom.

Before switchover, the public service broadcasting multiplexes were 1, 2 and B; afterwards they were first PSB1, 2 and 3 but now called BBCA, D3+4 and BBCB. The commercial multiplexes A, C and D had initial post-switchover names COM4, 5 and 6; now they are SDN, ArqA and ArqB. At switchover BBCA, ArqA and ArqB will switch from 16QAM to 64QAM mode transmission, so five multiplexes will transmit in the 64QAM (2/3) 8k mode. BBCB is used for Freeview HD (DVB-T2, 256QAM), and has a pre-switchover service on selected main transmitters.

After switchover, you will have needed to upgrade to a Wideband aerial to receive some or all digital television services.

Is there a time line for the introduction of channels such as ITV 4 and film 4 to heis transmitter?

J Newman : Yes never.

Hardly any relays broadcast all six new multiplexes - Bovey Tracey is one that just broadcasts the two public service multiplexes and the HD multiplex. It's Freesat, Virgin, Sky or catch-up TV on line or nothing for you Mr Newman if you want to see ITV4 & Film 4. Even though Ofcom did offer some commercial broadcasters space on relays, most chose not to bother to save money.

Thanks for that Pete very useful. Would the other alternative be to get a larger aerial that can pick up the signal from Beacon Hill? My question then would be how can I know if this will work before spending money on an installer and/or hardware?

J Newman: I wouldn't waste your money, just in case, I would simply get FREESAT (not from SKY) if I were you, which has HD capability now and also, with a rooter and Ethernet cable, can receive the BBC i-player for free and the ITV player from around May 2010. Your choice of course, but I would hate for you to waste a pile of money on a new aerial, only to find it doesn't work. Note also, not all the Freeview multiplexes broadcast with the same power.
