Geoff Coupe: The BBC HD channels switch on frame-by-frame basis between 1080i and 1080p automatically depending on the source material.

The "simulcast" HD channels (ie, not BBC HD) all upscale the SD content when there is no HD, but you can clearly see improvements with SD material - in particular you get much less "motion blur".

Weird but wonderful! I live in Astwood Bank, near Redditch. I have a stock aerial with masthead amplifier on the roof facing Sutton Coldfield (30 kms directly north) and I receive HD from Ridge Hill (50 kms directly south, mux 22) clear and steady since April switchover even during heavy rain like today! If I have any problems after Sutton switchover on Sep 21 I'll swing the aerial round and tune into Ridge Hill. For sake of interest, what is a typical gain/ loss ration front/ back of a stock aerial? Thanks.

I seem to be getting a short interruption in transmission at about 18.15 every evening. Observed on ITV1 Channel 3 this evening (23/01/12) and also on 800 West previously. Switching problem???

Richard: I am an aerial installer from gloucestershire and we were getting odd problems just recently. I installed a new aerial 4 weeks ago it was working perfectly then all of a sudden some channels would go then all channels, usually at night! I believe that there was a problem with high pressure causing an inversion effect. That should have passed by now though.
Are you still having the same problems?

Andy
