Happy new year. My property is in west kirby, merseyside & i live on eaton road. I have bought a good quality digital aerial & the correct coax cable. We have a transmitter on the hill & my questions are,
1. Will i get digital tv on the changeover dates by simply turning the aerial towards the transmitter, or, will i need a bigger mast to point it towards Winter hill?
2.Will both transmitters offer all the same services or will the local west kirby transmitter offer less?

John Moreton: You will get the channels listed above if you use this transmitter, you may get more from Winter Hill, please put your postcode into the box at the top right of the page.

Repost from main Winter Hill page:

Just completed (re)tuning my STBs for West Kirby (15w Winter Hill relay). I'm having problems with picking up the output from (I think) Storeton Welsh output which is being preferentially selected over the English channels from West Kirby. Due to this, auto-retuning is almost unusable, I've had to use the manual channel selection for tuning, where thats available on the box.

btw Given the position of the Storeton mast and the ranges of hills along the Welsh Dee coast, I should think that Colwyn Bay is in their radio shadow.

However, there IS a possible silver lining where my corner of the Wirral is concerned, when Storeton goes to full switchover on the 28th November, it should be possible to pick up the MUXs that will be missing from West Kirby (Dave, etc) when Winter Hill and its relays go completely "digital" on 4th December!

Any comments?

Roger: I don't thin k the Storeton Welsh versions of the public service multiplexes will be working until December 2nd.

You probably won't be able to work out the best possible direction for your aerial until December, as the effects of all transmitters being in digital only mode will only be apparent then.

I did not know there was a transmitter in West Kirby, where is it? I live in Lower Heswall, will the West Kirby TX serve me? Also, will the West Kirby TX and say the Wrekin start tansmitting all ITV & BBC regions and if so when?

John: Put your postcode into the box at the top right to find out the transmitter you can use.

The full digital service starts on 2th December 2009, as it states above.

Hi, I have done, it gives Moel-Y-Parc in fact I can see the mast from my house accross the River Dee. I Don't want the Welsh, I want Granada / BBC North West which comes from Winter Hill but as I am in Lower Heswall like everyone else we can not get Winter Hill so the next best is The Wrekin which gives us Midlands. Thought depending on its location the West Kirby one may work, but where is it located in West Kirby? Or, will Moel-Y-Parc and the Wrekin transmit all regions inc Granada and BBC NW when full digital starts?

John: There is a link to the location at the top of the page, it's Google Maps - the transmitters will (with the exception of Storeton) transmit only the regions they do at the moment.
