The last two nights testing on Wenvoe gave me good signals, the lowest Quality being around 75% and lowest Strength around 90%.
My Aerial is only roughly aligned on Wenvoe.
Why did they use Channel 53 when the highest Channel for post DSO is 51?
Hi Briantist,
Why I asked this Question is that Channel 53
is on my local Transmitter (Analogue) and it was turned off just after midnight as it is a relay of Wenvoe.
However later in the testing period a signal appeared on this Channel giving 100% Strength and 100% Quality.
My Results:-
Chan 41 S 100% Q 100%
Chan 42 S 100% Q 95%
Chan 44 S 100% Q 100%
Chan 45 S 95% Q 90%
Chan 47 S 100% Q 100%
Chan 49 S 100% Q 75%
Chan 53 S 100% Q100%
There was nothing on Channel 53 after they switched the Analogue off until the Test period started.
Nothing was received on Channel 51, unless it could cause co-channel problems with the reception of Channel 50 which is in use at the moment? I think I know why they did not use Channel 51, BBC2 Analogue was not shut off last night.
But I still don't know why they used Channel 53 for the Test.
Anybody know why? Hi Briantist,
Thanks for the reply, must have been a coincidence that channel 53 was also being tested by another transmitter because there were no sevices found when I did the scan of that channel.
With 100% Strength and 100% Quality it should have given the services & TX ID.etc
Thanks for your help.
I am about 75 miles away from Carmel and beaming towards Wenvoe so I don't think it could be that TX. Hi Briantist,
Sorry for any delay, I have not been available until today.
No, there was no multiplex data available at all!
I scanned this Channel quite a few times and got 100% Strength & 100% Quality readings, but got no Net ID or TX ID.
The same results as the Test Channels.
It did seem more responsive when I selected Channel 53 (Strength & Quality Bars filling up quicker). Stronger Signal? *(See below)*
Channel 53 is S4C on our local Transmitter (Rhymney). A relay of Wenvoe.
I am beaming towards Wenvoe using Horizontal Polarisation.
When they switched the Analogue off after Midnight on Monday there was no signal strength or quality readings on Chan 53 at the time I looked.
It was the same after Midnight on Tuesday until they started the Test period.
They started Testing on Chan 41 and switched on higher Channels until they were all Radiating.
Because I could not see any Freeview Test signals on Chan 51,(as per the layout in the table above for Post DSO Freeview), I selected Chan 52 and then Chan 53 and found the signal in Question!
*(Could they have switched the relay on for the Freeview tests?)*
Maybe they used one of the Channels on certain relays for the Tests.
Hi Briantist,
Thank you for your reply.
That seems to be a satisfactory explanation of events during the Tests.
Unfortunately I did not check any other Channels on the local relay at that time!!
It would have been interesting to see if they were testing some of the other channels on the relays as well.
I wonder if there any more testing nights coming up before DSO?
All the very best, & thanks once again.

Briantist: Are both the muxes on full power now or when will they be?
Receiving both at decent Strength/Quality at the moment since the retune.
When they are full power I wil do my final tweak on the Aerial!! Briantist:Thanks very much for the info.
When will you be updating this page to reflect that?
It's just that I have been having some local enquiries about what power level the new Muxes were running on.
All the very best! Briantist:Nice to see the radiation pattern
included on this page.
Nice work Brian,I will be keeping an eye on this part of the site.
Best wishes.
