John Goldsboro: You can get Freesat installed by calling a local installer to fit you a dish. wyn jones: As far as I know there are no plans for any DAB services to be added to this transmitter. Lynn: Generally speaking, not all Freeview receivers are the same, and you get a wide variation in the sensitivity of the boxes to signals.
Sometimes very cheap boxes work better than top-of-the-range ones. Justin Smith: Just to clarify, the information in the original FOI request covers the relay transmitters, with a single exception.
You have to remember that it's not the "normal" conditions that have to be considered (as that's an easy computation) but the problems during "Inversion" where signals are carried much further than usual that have to form part of the process of allocation and co-ordination. tk: Please see my above reply. adam: You certainly need a dish, but you don't need a card or a phone line. michael: 1. There is - there is a "guard band".
2. No consumer equipment will be effected, only the signals supplied to them.
3. That can't work. There are no frequencies for such services.
4. Because "money talks", of course. T. N. Thompson: What "vital information" is being withheld by providing a public consultation? That makes no sense to me at all. Andrew: As far as I understand it, TVC went to court and the court decided that TVC was a "retransmission" in the sense of the Television Without Frontiers Directive.
Analogue is a total irrelevance, the meaning of "at the same time" includes the technically necessities of digital transmission and it always has. Luisa: You will need to look on the internet elsewhere for details of "proxy servers" that will tell TVC that you are in the UK. Barry Wicks: No transmitter should have any downtime, the problems are caused by unplanned and unexpected faults that cannot be easily resolved. Dave Lindsay: The signal level might be low, but that is compensated by the use of an alternative transmission mode.
I thought the whole point of the local TV services was they would appear at 106 or 108 on Virgin, Freesat and Sky EPGs as well as Freeview? Corin: I suspect that having a "no subsidy" model from the outset, rather than expecting someone else to support their business model will be good for the long-term success of the stations.
Not cutting the cloth to fit the budget from the outset is where local TV has gone wrong all along. dave macready: You will probably have found the ArqB multiplex working again after the retune on 9 May 2012? Les Nicol: It's good to hear that it's working on Linux. Peter White: Yes, but you may need a very large dish to get all the services, in particular the "popular" ones in the UK-focused beam.
If you take a UK "Freesat" box with you this will provide the programme guide and correct channel numbers when you fix it to the dish.
The best thing to do is to consult a local installer. Tom: Your Sky box doesn't need to be connect to the rooftop aerial. Dave Lindsay: Thanks. I have changed the database. Val Ireland: No, they are different. Thus the "Freesat" and "fSfS" buttons above!!! Dave Lindsay: Sorry, typo, I had 42 again for COM6, not 41. Should be OK now. Thanks for pointing it out! Peter Henderson: I thought that ITV London appeared in the 900s? Peter Henderson: There's not much need for "testing" really, most of the time channels appear on air at the same times as the EPG information is updated.
