Dave Lindsay: I covered the explanation here. JACKIE: You can do that, but it might be just bother to fit another dish. Mike Barrett: The HD channels do not use the "make everything as loud as possible" audio compression system used on the SD channels. This provides for a more subtle listening experiences, as well as 5.1 surround-sound. Alex: Some people have reported good reception from 1N outside the "target area". Ron Knight: You will just need a "generic" free satellite box. You can get them from places such as Maplins or Lidl.
A "branded" box such as Sky or Freesat won't be suitable. Nick: That will be a "no", sorry. Tom Allen: That is perfectly normal. The encoder software detects on a frame-by-frame basis if interlaced or progressive encoding results in the best output, so the decoder will show this as switching between 1080i and 1080p dynamically. NottsUK: Thanks for the notification about the changes to the name of the Eutelsat birds. Yakoob: BBC South will no longer be covering Brighton and Hove, so you will be "preferring" a local news with no local news. LORRAINE: You are incorrect. Brighton and Hove became a Unitary Authority after the Local Government Commission for England (1992) review - and came into being in 1997.
The city status was given by HM Queen as part of the millennium celebrations in 2000.
Whilst unitary authorities do not take any governance from the County Council, addresses (as set by Royal Mail) within the UA remain in the "ceremonial county", which for Brighton and Hove is East Sussex. Ray France: The digital switchover has nothing to do with Virgin Media at all - the Virgin system has been fully digital for a long time. John Clemence: I can't disagree with that. I never found the "news for Southampton and Portsmouth" of massive personal relevance. Brettpigeon: Probably should get your facts straight before posting. VIVA is a subscription channel on satellite, and there is no such thing as a "free cable" service.
I think you will find my list of channels is 100% correct, unlike yours. Elliott: Yes, the wiring is the same for Freesat and Sky. woodface: Seems an obvious choice for something on channel 47 to me... Alan: Very hard to suggest anything without a full postcode... Dana: Albert Einstein said that insanity was "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results".
You might like to read the checklist at the top of the page.
Robert: BBC TWO has closed on analogue. You will not be able to receive the channel on your VCR as it has no digital tuner.
This is the perfect time to take the VCR to the recycling centre and buy a Freeview+ or Freeview+HD recorder.
