Briantist: It seems as though the What Satellite & Digital TV, (Wotsat), web site has been removed. If you select the Wotsat article on your "UK Free TV Newsbucket" column it goes to techradar.com, with the message, "Sorry! We can't find the page you were looking for". Briantist: A couple of ITV 1 channels have appeared on Astra 1N at,
Frequency 11053
Polarity Horizontal
Symbol Rate 22000
FEC 5/6.
They are shown as 20710 and 20711. Briantist: 20710 is Meridian while 20711 is Central. ITV +1Tuesday 22 November 2011 9:20PM

At the moment it is shown as 20715.
There is also a test HD channel on this transponder showing colour bars with TNS HD SPG B in the top left hand corner. The SID number is 20780.

Briantist: The test HD channel with the SID number 20780 has to-day been showing the film Gremlins all day.Briantist: Channel 5+1 is testing on Astra 1N at,
Frequency 10964
Polarity Horizontal
DVB Standard DVB-S
Symbol rate 22000
FEC 5/6.
It is identified by its SID number 7720.
It is on the same transponder as the four Channel 5 regions, 5*, 5*+1, 5 USA and 5 USA+1. At the moment they are all encrypted. Briantist: The four Channel 5 regions, 5*, 5*+1, 5 USA and 5 USA +1 are now free to air via Astra 1N. The only one that is still encrypted is Channel 5+1. These channels on Astra 2A have now been switched off. Gareth Smart: See my posting 4 up for Thursday 24 November 2011 11:49AM. Briantist: Maybe DMOL are a little swamped at the moment with all that is happening and they haven't got round to 5+1 on Freeview. Ragarding your lack of signal on Mux A, the owner of a web site called UKFREE.TV is very helpfull in his advice on how to cure such problems. Jacquie: The channel 5 channels etc used to be on the satellite Astra 2A that covers most of Europe. Because of that they were encrypted and could only be seen with a SKY receiver. These channels are now clear with no encryption and have moved to the new satellite Astra 1N and they only cover the UK. Because of the move, the 5 channels on Astra 2A have now been switched off. I doubt if you will be able to pick them up now as far away as Greece. U: All Freesat channels can be received on any HD satellite receiver as they all come from the same source. As far as I know Silvercrest, made in Germany by Comag and distributed in this country by LIDL, do not make a genuine Freesat receiver, but do make free-to-air receivers. ITV1 Central East can be received on a Freesat receiver on its other channels option, but it is a case of waiting until ITV or Freesat change ITV1 Central West with ITV1 Central East on Freesat 103 for the East Midlands. Briantist: I see that the BBC have increased the resolution of BBC HD from 1440x1080 to 1920x1080, and are showing the 3D test card and video clip ready for next Saturdays 3D transmission of the Strickly Come Dancing final at the Tower Ballroom, Blackpool. ITVFriday 16 December 2011 12:02PM
Briantist: There are two more, what I believe will be ITV channels, on Astra 1N transponder 11053/H/22000. They are identified by their SID numbers 20735 and 20745. At the moment they are both colour bars with WILLIAM ROAD printed on them. This is the same transponder as ITV 1 Central South and ITV 1 Central East. Briantist: Two new transponders have been switched on, on Astra 1N they are,
11113,H,DVB-S2,QPSK,23000,8/9.
11141,H,DVB-S2,8PSK,23000,2/3.
If these transponders stay switched on it seems that they will be used for HD channels. Briantist: Each of the above transponders are transmitting a BBC London test card at the moment. One is TEST TXP 1 and the other is TEST TXP2. Briantist: The final Channel 5 region on Astra 1N is now free-to-air, (whether it will remain free-to-air we will have to wait and see). It is Channel 5 Region 2 or South Central, (SID 7701), and has up till now been encrypted. Now that all the Channel 5 regions are free of encryption on Astra 1N, the one on the BBC transponder on Astra 2D can now be switched off. Briantist: I believe all the other channels have already moved onto Astra 1N, so when the BBC channels move over, Astra 2D will be empty. Where will Astra be moving 2D to when its empty? There has been a number of free-to-air HD feeds on the Eurobird 1 satellite these past few weekends showing Winter sports. Cross Country, Super G, ski jumping, biathalon and a couple of weeks ago speed skating from Moscow for the Netherland broadcaster NOS. To watch them though you needed a 4:2:2 satellite receiver. The quality of a 4:2:2 HD satellite feed is very impressive. On Saturday afternoon I turned my satellite dish to pick up Eutelsat W3A at 7.0°East. Flicking through the channels I came across GRTS, a Gambia channel, that was showing the football match between Chelsea and Bolton free-to-air. It was widescreen with the English commentary, although the picture was slightly less than UK standard definition. At least I watched it without adding to the Murdoch coffers. Briantist: I see that the Eutelsat satellites have had a name change today that represents their orbital position, so Eurobird 1 at 28.5°East is now Eutelsat 28A. Nedbod: How as your sister managed to get BBC ONE HD for 2 years, when it didn't start till 04 November 2010? Briantist: At the moment there are three Disney channels transmitting free to air on Astra 1N frequency 10921. They are Disney Channel, Disney Cinemagic and Disney XD. All three channels are transmitting in HD 1920x1080 pixels. I can't see them being free to air for much longer. More 4Monday 16 April 2012 9:11PM
Briantist: More4+2 is transmitting on Astra 1N frequency 11127. For some reason it is transmitting with an aspect ratio of 14:9. Briantist: 4 Austrian HD encrypted channels have appeared on Astra 1N this afternoon. They are, RTL HD Austria, VOX HD Austria, SUPER RTL HD and RTL2 HD Austria. They are on transponder 11112, H, 22000, DVB.S2 8PSK, 3/4. Three are encrypted in IR and the fourth one is encrypted in IR, NDS and NG. What they are doing on Astra 1N I have no idear, unless they are being used to check the transponder. Jeremy: All the channels from Astra 2D switched to Astra 1N earlier this year. There is now nothing being beamed from Astra 2D. Briantist: A new transponder has been switched on, on Astra 1N. It is 10993, 22000, H. The channels on it are,
ITV1 Meridian TV North,
ITV1 Anglia TV West,
ITV1 Yorkshire TV East,
ITV1 Central TV South West,
ITV1+1.
At the moment they are all encrypted.
They are also transmitting, encrypted, from Astra 2B 12402, 27500, V.
Hopefully when the channels are switched off on Astra 2B the encryption will be switched off on Astra 1N. Briantist: A spare transponder is being used on Eutelsat 28A by GLOBECAST/ITN Jubilee. The parameters are, 12524, Horizontal, DVB-S, QPSK, 26700 symbol rate.
There are six channels on the transponder named Standup 1 to Standup 6.
Briantist: Eight SD BBC Sport Olympic Streams have appeared on Astra 1N frequency 10921 H. They are identified by their SID numbers, 7802, 7808, 7814, 7820, 7826, 7832, 7838 and 7844. Briantist: Eight more Olympic Streams have now appeared on Eutelsat 28A frequency 11469 H. They are identified by their SID numbers, 7804, 7810, 7816, 7822, 7824, 7830, 7836 and 7842. 7822 is showing,
BBC SPORT
TEST FEED TO SKY
Stream 12. Briantist: The first four HD BBC Olympic Streams are now live. They are on Astra 2A frequency 12422/H/29500. They are identified by their SID numbers, 7809, 7821, 7827 and 7839. Briantist: Another four HD BBC SPORT Olympic Streams have been switched on. These are on frequency 12402/V/29500. They are identified by their SID numbers 7807, 7819, 7829 and 7841. All the HD streams up till now are test feeds to SKY.
