Roger: You cannot connect a SKY or any other satellite receiver, with the exception of a Technomate, Dreambox or similar that are equiped with both Satellite and Terrestrial tuners.
P.S. not all models of the above and those not listed have that facility.

Upgrading from Sky to Freesat | Freesat

Leslie Mcintosh - Just to add to jb38's input. A dish suitable for you would be either a 54/64cm Triax TD series (metal) or the alternative fibre glass models from the same manufacture coupled to an Irderto black single LNB. Such a combination will give you the best possible signal strength and PQ (picture) quality on a correctly figured set up.

Upgrading from Sky to Freesat | Freesat

Apologies Leslie and just in case anyone else is confused on the LNB here. I miss spelled the product it should read "Inverto". Two satellite products are similarly named, but are quite different "Irdeto" is a form of encryption applied to pay per view TV systems.

Stuart: Thanks for this info. I have a 32" pixel plus Philips LCD TV wall mounted in the bedroom - probably one of Philips last before they pulled out of manufacturing TV's

James Blair : It is currently only as yet available by inputing the parameters manually when using an FTA or "Freesat" receiver in non "Freesat" mode - renaming and saving the channel. You would need to check the process of adding with a SKY receiver. It's been this way for a while now. Perhaps Brian, or some of the other regular contributors here might have more info to offer on when inclusion on the SKY, Freesat EPG's will be confirmed.

Les Nicol: James - My apologies - You only need to rename and save - the parameters are already set up, but the channel is listed numerically rather than name listed - so once identified simply proceed as mentioned.

Anita Ozola: I think you will have a difficulty in receiving UK TV with a 1 metre dish. Maybe with a 1.5 or 1.8, but suggest you check this with a local installer before proceeding.
GB
Joanna - It might be worth you considering the "Freesat" option given your location. It means buying your own receiver with a dish installation. This isn't overly expensive and is a one off cost, but would resolve your limited choice of channels with "Freeview" in your area.

Can I pick up Freeview from Germany?
Friday 30 November 2012 8:11AM
Calley: You should be able to receive "Freesat" in this area of Germany. I would have have this checked out by a local installer making sure that there are no obvious local line of sight issues first. I would go for one of the "Humax" boxes as these have very sensitive tuners. You may get away with a 60cm dish, but I suspect an 80cm will be required.

The receiver can be obtained and shipped to you from the likes of Amazon or possibly some other UK outlet.

P.S. Friends, near the French/Swiss border have good reception on a 60cm dish, but with s new satellite coming into play, that will have a more focused fixed beam over the UK, I would opt for the larger 80cm dish if you can.

Tom: Try a "Freesat" re-tune - three additional channels were added yesterday i.e Challenge TV Pick TV and Sky News and that maybe related. Worth checking out especially as your getting 100% signal and PQ.

J D Richards. This issue cropped up when 2D was temporarily replaced by 1F and more recently by 1N. It should have corrected if you re-scanned. I am assuming your running a motorized dish on the Fortec receiver and given your locus and reception issues I would try tweaking your system signal and PQ as high s you can. Then try a further re-scan which should correct the issue you are having.

norman: You may still be able to receive UK TV in Spain, dependent on your locus and existing equipment - particularly the size of your current dish. I would keep a check on the English language press for comments and also the ads there-in from ex pat installers living and working in your area.

Jef.jb38 - Surprises me that SKY fitters haven't seen fit to move away from the these cheaper screw on "F" connectors. I use compression terminations, but there are Quickmount push/pin "F" connectors that offer superior pull off strength and that won't work off as when dusting or moving your receiver.
GB
P>S If you need to re- terminate e;g; if you decide to re-site the receiver it's simple to snip off the termination if required and re-do the termination. The Quickmount type aren't that more costly and provide a better seal.

John - As Dave Lindsay and Peter Henderson have pointed out your Relay Transmitter is technically limited to the current service provided. The best service available to you is by installing "Freesat" which gives a comparable service to that of the full "Freeview" one. Apart from the initial outlay on a receiver and dish installation this Satellite delivered service is free and is backed by the BBC and ITV so is secure in the service it delivers. The setting up of the "Freesat" service a few years ago was intended to cater for areas like your own where the Terrestrial Digital service ie: "Freeview" was unavailable or delivered a limited service. In my own neck of the woods ie. Dumfries and Galloway where there are several Relay Transmitters, many have opted for "Freesat" or SKY. "Freesat" is as stated delivered "Free" (which I have installed)as opposed to the subscription service delivered by SKY.
Hope this fully explains avaiable options.

Arthur: jb38 will doubtless respond to you himself, but the "Freesat" Humax current range of receivers will offer you that and more and you will not require a subsciption card. e.g:- they offer BBC iplayer ITVplayer 4on-demand and demand5 with future additional possibilities. There are also hidden features that will allow the receiver to Multi-Sat and with 3rd party softwear act as a network server. - These receivers come with a range of different options in terms of storage capabability 500GB and 1TB Hard Drives. - You should check the Humax UK Direct web site to view the specs and options available. There are of course other "Freesat" receivers on the market but the Humax options are currently in front in terms of what they can be caspable of.

Horndean (Hampshire, England) digital TV transmitter

k: Your location indicates that the Findon "Relay" transmitter serves your area. This is likely however to provide a more limited range of available channels. However you seem also to be on the fringes of transmissions from the "main" transmitter at Whitehack Hill. If your contract TV service is with SKY and to avoid/minimize cost you could consider either a change of contract to non-subscription bearing in mind that if you have a receiver with recording capabilities that this aspect will be disabled. The main reception capabilities will otherwise be unaffected with the exception of the subscription channels. -
