Avoch I can see Rosemarkie transmitter mast from my house. Before the big changeover we received Freeview digital channels with no problems using a loft mounted antenna. Recently channels 18,19,21,22 have at times become unwatchable due to breaking up. Has anyone else on the Black Isle reported problems? All other channels are fault free. Why have these transmissions become so downgraded?Jim GrovesTuesday 1 January 2013 9:56PM
I cannot find Yesterday on my sky+hd box, is there a problem and how can I view you please and thanks. Jim Grovesjb38Tuesday 1 January 2013 11:32PM

hi there,
I have been recording Auf Weidersein Pet on the Yesterday channel and have noticed that there are several episodes missing meaning the run is interrupted.
Any suggestions as to why this is happening as this is really impacting my enjoyment of the programming.
thanks John BaleWednesday 9 January 2013 6:56PM
I have been trying unsuccessfully over the last week, to reset my password to log in to the Yesterday channel on my Laptop.
All the links that have been sent to me via the reset password e-mail facilty, do not work.
All I get is... "An unexpected error has occurred. Please try again late."
I have done this 5 times, with 5 different links - to no avail.
What do I have to do to be able to log in and watch Yesterday on my PC.

Bath I have a freesat dish but would like to receive Yesterday channel - How do I get this - What is the frequency that Yesterday goes out at so that I can tune the box manually - thank-youbhollis: You can't because it isn't available free-to-air — via satellite it is only available by subscribing to an appropriate Sky package.
It is available from full-service Freeview transmitters. The Digital UK predictor suggests that you might be able to receive it from Mendip. miss stella wynnMonday 25 February 2013 4:21PM

Hi Yesterday Channel.
I am a fan of yours.
I have seen Last of the summer wine on Yesterday, but how about bringing back the very best Sit-coms i.e. Mrs Bucket, Open all hours, Alo Alo, The Good Life. Benny Hill.Peter Sellers etc
The current comedy's are not up to the standard of the old ones, partly because of the politically correct idiots who object to the double meanings and inuendos of the old and best ones.Andy EllMonday 22 April 2013 6:24PM
Westgate-on-sea hello, re "Yesterday" tv channel 19 on Freeview. My TV has auto tuned BBC1 and ITV from Sudbury but my nearest transmitter is Dover, and our rooftop aerial points at Dover. We live in Thanet. BBC1 and ITV from Dover break up and yield lower signal strengths than those from Sudbury. I'm thinking of turning our aerial round to get the better signals from Sudbury. But if we do that, will we risk losing "Yesterday"? I have not figured out how to tell which transmitter is supplying ch 19, but the signal strength is 90-92 percent, like BBC 1 and ITV from Sudbury. The house was unoccupied during digital switchover.Andy Ell: The signal strength usually gives the UHF channel that it is tuned to, or else often gives a frequency in MHz instead.
How do you know it's Sudbury or are you just concluding that on the basis that it is BBC One East and ITV Anglia?
Yesterday is carried on one of the Commercial (COM) channels which don't have as great a reach. So you may find that you can pick PSB channels from Sudbury but not COMs. Another factor is Rouncefall which is a 4kW PSB-only relay (also horizontally polarised) and uses the same channels as Sudbury. This is fine for digital - it operates as a "Single Frequency Network" (SFN) - so you may be getting the combined effect of Sudbury and Rouncefall for PSBs, but you will only ever get Sudbury for COMs, if at all.
See here for a list of services by multiplex (PSB/COM):
DTG :: DTT Services by Multiplex
Yesterday is carried on COM6.
With Sudbury you will obviously loose access to BBC One South East and ITV Meridian.
The Margate relay is on the top of Invicta House and forms a SFN with Dover, albeit that it is vertically polarised, but again it only carries PSB channels (so no Yesterday). Andy EllWednesday 24 April 2013 12:06PM
Westgate-on-sea Dave Lindsay, thanks very much for this info. The Yesterday signal is coming from Dover, and we can get other channels from Freesat, so we will leave the Freeview aerial well alone for the moment. Timely advice, thanks again!david wadgeSaturday 27 April 2013 10:50AM
St. Neots I am at Buckden a small village south of Huntingdon Cambs. The nearest transmitter is Sandy. There is a Vodaphone mast in line of sight of the Sandy mast. When Freeview began the service was excellent on all channels. Following the several channel changes, first effect was poor reception on Yesterday then Quest and now several others. I paid to have my signal and TV software checked and was told it all good. The problem persists, I even installed Freesat to give better viewing but not all I like to watch is on that platform. Any technical suggestions to improve or even change the situation will be helpful. jb38Saturday 27 April 2013 3:43PM
Chester david wadge: Although the mobile phone mast referred to at the side of Stirtloe Lane operates on 900Mhz (as well as 1800Mhz) I feel though that your problem might more be related to the fact that the last leg of the signal path from Sandy appears to be partially skimming along treetops and areas of general greenery, trees being notorious for killing the more important aspect of a digital signal, that of its quality.
The programmes you complain about having problems with are on Sandy's mux Ch51 (Quest / ITV3 etc) and with Yesterday / Film 4 etc being on mux Ch48, and so you should carry out a signal check on both muxes by either (1) carrying out a signal check whilst viewing the programme, or (2) going into your TV / boxes tuning menu, selecting "manual tune" and entering Ch51 but NOT followed by pressing search or scan, as the signal strength / quality will normally be indicated after having entered the channel number, make a note of the indications seen then try the same test again using mux Ch48 and once again noting the readings, which by the way should be observed for about a minute or so to enable a more accurate assessment of the situation to be made, giving an update on results once completed.
Needless to say, this check should only be carried out whilst you are actually experiencing the problems referred to.

St. Neots Thank you for that, those trees are particularly huge and stretch a long distance (several miles). I will make the checks once the reception changes and will report back.george clarkeWednesday 8 May 2013 6:06PM
Hello, my dad has freeview through his Samsung tv. Following the tacoleston changeover (may 1st) he no longer has access to YESTERDAY, it has been removed from his channel list. It was number 15 but now nothing.
Please can you advise on how we get the channel back?!?
Many thanks
George Clarkegeorge clarke: If he is using a communal aerial system then it might require adjustment to allow the new channels for COM6 (Film4, Yesterday etc) and PSB3 (HD services). This is because they use channels which haven't been used before and communal aerial systems are sometimes fitted with filters that only allow through the channels in use by the designated transmitter. george clarke: With the Freeview system, Yesterday is logical channel number (LCN) 19; Film4 is LCN15.
However, as he does not have anything on LCN15, I suspect that he won't have Yesterday on LCN19.
Try a manual tune on UHF channel 39, if the TV has a manual tune function. Lori WilliamsFriday 17 May 2013 4:46PM
Strathpeffer I live in a freeview light area, but my home is in a dip and I've been advised by a local engineer that I cannot receive freeview. I am aware of neighbours trying numerous aerial options to try to access the Fodderty mast, to no avail. I would really like to access yesterday channel but can't afford sky. We are using a sky satellite and box to access free sat. Is there any way to get yesterday? If it is available free to air on free view, why can't we have it in free Sat? It's not or fault we live in an inaccessible village, that only has freeview light, even if we could get it. ThanksLori Williams: No, Yesterday is only available via Sky's subscription platform on satellite.
The BBC, STV/ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 are Public Service broadcasters. They broadcast from all transmitters. The Commercial licensees (which carry Yesterday on Freeview) do not have a "public service" obligation, and exist solely to turn a profit. For that reason they only broadcast from the largest transmitting stations. See here for an explanation:

Yesterday shows commercials to generate revenue. Evidently, it is worth its while to pay to be carried on one of the Commercial Freeview multiplexes.
It stands to reason that it will also have to pay to be on Freesat but it considers it not worth it. It draws revenue from BSkyB which could perhaps be cut should it go on Freesat.
On the face of it, it isn't surprising that Yesterday doesn't go on Freesat because it is available to most people (subscription free) on Freeview. It would rather pay to be on Freeview (albeit on a quasi-national basis) than be on Freesat due to the potential number of viewers.
