Does anybody have a an update as to how i can manually tune ITV1 HD Granada, the service id's seem to have changed. my sat tuner needs the service id as well as the other settings to tune. Thanks.JordyMonday 14 June 2010 2:17PM
ITV HD is off the air...Jordy: Sorry, I missed that, I presume that was on satellite? NottsUKThursday 17 March 2011 2:30PM
Briantist: A few days ago I mentioned that a new HD channel had started on the same Astra 2D transponder as the BBC HD and BBC One HD channels. The channel is identified by its SID number 6942 and at the moment is encrypted. I have now noticed that when I press the info button on the remote control it shows the now and next information. This information relates to ITV 1.Mike DimmickFriday 18 March 2011 4:24PM
Reading NottsUK: It could be a new regional variation. LyngSat has it as ITV1 London, so it's possible that they're going to move it from its current home on 10832 H.NottsUKSunday 20 March 2011 5:00PM
Mike Dimmick: On the now and next information on this ITV1 HD channel, SID number 6942, it is showing Meridian News and Weather. I think it is any ones guess as to which regional variation it will eventually be.Mike DimmickSunday 20 March 2011 8:43PM
NottsUK: ITV1 HD Meridian South-East is currently on Astra 2B, 11973 V - could be they want to make this free-to-air, joining London and Granada.
ITV sells advertising for different blocks of the country, ranging from parts of the franchise areas (micro-regions, based around one or two terrestrial transmitter areas) to whole franchise areas (regions) and combinations (macro-regions). Currently ITV1 HD appears to run on the macro-region level, with London and Granada (representing the North Macro - Granada, Yorkshire, Tyne Tees and Border) on Freesat and Sky, and Central West (representing the Midwest Macro - Central, Wales, West, Westcountry) and Meridian South-East (representing the South East Macro - Meridian and Anglia) on Sky only.

The next logical step if they were launching a new variant would probably be to provide the West Macro (Wales, West, Westcountry - Midwest Macro without Central) with its own service based on ITV1 Wales, which is what they've done for ITV1+1.
Each ITV1 micro-region has its own stream on satellite, but only some of them are free-to-air - one representative of each news region is. The news region map now looks a bit different:

Mike Dimmick: ITV1 HD Meridian South-East disappeared off of Astra 2B at the weekend. The channels now on this transponder, 11973 V, are, Sony TV Asia, ITV1 Central South, ITV1 Central East and ITV1+1 (Wales). All encrypted.kevin evansThursday 5 May 2011 9:15PM
why when i watch itv1/1 in bristol do i get itv1/1 walesMike DimmickThursday 5 May 2011 11:36PM
Kevin Evans: Assuming you mean ITV1 +1, ITV skimped on equipment. They only had space for six variants on satellite, so only provided enough delay equipment and hired enough monitoring for those six variants.
The six:
London
Granada
Yorkshire West (Emley Moor)
Wales
Meridian South-East
Central West (Sutton Coldfield)
Wales, the West, and Westcountry regions all get ITV1 +1 Wales. Meridian and Anglia get Meridian South-East (Meridian is divided into South and South-East news regions). All of Central gets Central West (ITV1 Central is split West/East Midlands). I'm not sure which service Border gets. I believe Tyne Tees gets Yorkshire West - again, Yorkshire is normally split east/west.
Why these groupings? ITV sells advertising in macro-regions. There is a 'West' macro consisting of Wales, West and Westcountry, and a 'South East' macro consisting of Meridian and Anglia. There's also a 'North' macro but the Granada region is presumably too large or too important not to have a separate service.
Some of the satellite variants are encrypted, so the choice on Freesat is even more limited.David WalfordSaturday 28 May 2011 8:53PM
Woodbridge I am using an old Sky receiver to view free sky channels. I am able to view all channels except the ITV channels. Dear Briantist, please help me ! I have a Panasonic HD TV connected to a Humax Freesat HD receiver but just recently ( in the last week )I have noticed that as from the early evenings the BBC HD channels have disappeared showing ' BAD SIGNAL ' on the screen. I'm communicating with you from the Algarve in Portugal; is it possible that the BBC deliberately reduce their HD signal strength during the evenings when they have maximum viewer numbers ?Technophobe: There is no change to the power output of the transmitter during the day or night.
However, when you already have a weak signal (as you are outside the "footprint") the effect of sun on the atmosphere can effect satellite reception.
You could use a larger dish to resolve this problem, but first I would use a satellite signal meter to ensure the dish is well aligned to the satellite. TechnophobeFriday 2 March 2012 8:40AM
Briantist: thanks for your response.
I now understand that the evening loss of the BBC HD channels was wrapped up in the ( then ) pending switch of satellites and now that the switch over has been achieved my HD channels have been regained

Petersfield Midhurst transmitter.
On ITV1 I get South local news.
On ITV1HD I get South East local news.
Is it possible to get South news on ITV1HD?Dennis: No because there are only a handful of ITV1HD regions (four or five, I believe). jim mccormackTuesday 19 June 2012 7:01PM
have just bought samsung smt-s7800 freesat box, can't seem to get itv hd channel. Ilive on west coast of scotland, any suggestions on how to recieve this channel
Thanks Jimjb38Tuesday 19 June 2012 11:44PM
jim mccormack: The West coast of Scotland is a very large area and a more precise location is required, a post code or one from nearby being suffice, as the signal levels expected at your location can then be assessed as well as the transmitter that serves the area.
jb38Wednesday 20 June 2012 7:22AM
jim mccormack: Please ignore my request for info on location as I failed to notice that the model referred to is a Freesat device, however regarding your ITV HD problem, does the ITV HD channel number 119 show on the EPG list but its just that you cannot receive it even although you have the box coupled into an HD Ready TV via an HDMI lead?Les NicolWednesday 20 June 2012 7:33AM
Jim - I think jb38 has picked your post up incorrectly as your receiver is a "Freesat" satellite box, rather than a "Freeview" receiver where it takes the digital transmission from a transmitter. Too much "POP" I thing after that England win!!
However he is correct in that the post code will determine whether the channel list, channel guide gives you eg:- ITV Granada HD in the Border ITV region - Dumfries and Galloway area of West Scotland or if you are from Ayrshire upwards STV.
To get ITV HD if your in an STV area you will need to put in either a Dumfries & Galloway post code or one from an English ITV region.
Les NicolWednesday 20 June 2012 7:42AM
P>S> Living in the South West of Scotland, I can get STV HD (basically the same program line up as ITV HD), but the parameters for this have to be added manually, o my Humax PVR receiver.jb38Wednesday 20 June 2012 7:08PM
Les Nicol: Re: jim mccormack's posting. Yes, I think you could well be correct regarding what was actually meant when taking the area involved into consideration, and as you say an appropriate post code being the key to this, the procedure for entering this being mentioned on page 26 / section 3 of the 7800's user manual. CorinFriday 29 June 2012 2:17PM
According to KingofSat and Lyngsat, STV HD West has left 10936V.
Now this afternoon I am getting zero quality reading on this frequency and no sign of ITV-1 HD Granada either.
Can somebody please confirm that ITV-1 HD Granada has now left 10936V and if so, to which frequency has it moved?Corin: STV is still on 10936 V, on Astra 1N. KatThursday 4 October 2012 4:08PM
Getting several complaints in Petersfield, Hampshire, that people have 'lost' ITV. Why is this?Kat: Because two multiplexes changed channel in the early hours of Wednesday. This means that a retune is required. Kat: I should point out that this affects users of the Midhurst transmitter only. Mike SmithThursday 29 November 2012 1:12PM
I live at Christchurch, Dorset on the south coast. I receive tv signals from Rowridge and on freeview ITV1 get the local news and adverts from the south, which is correct. On freeview ITV1 HD however, I get local news and adverts from the south-east (Kent). Why is this? Mike Smith: Because there are only a handful of ITV1 HD regions. This is so as to not need equipment to produce HD feeds for each region or sub-region.
I'm not familiar with whether the regions that do have HD feeds produce their local news in HD.
Those regions that don't have counterpart HD feeds (such as ITV Meridian Southampton) we assume don't produce content in HD. Therefore if ITV were to change to having different regional feeds there would be no variance in the HD content available; local news would still be in standard definition.
BBC One HD does not broadcast regional news due to the same cost reasons. Philip LaneMonday 17 December 2012 10:44PM
Burgess Hill Can someone please help? Having installed a new TV during the Olympics and putting up with the awful pictures and sound I thought by now all would be good!! ITV1 HD and CHANNEL 4 HD, both loose sound for 1 second on and off at times throughout the transmissions. Both BBC HDs have been perfect for a while. Question 1, what on earth is going on? 2 how can I fix it?I am between Heathfield and Midhurst transmitters. Philip LaneMonday 17 December 2012 10:44PM
Burgess Hill Philip LaneMonday 17 December 2012 10:45PM
Burgess Hill Philip Lane: I would check that it is tuned to the correct transmitter.
Answer to question 2 depends on what is the issue!
Bring up the signal strength screen and it should hopefully tell you which UHF channel it is tuned to. HD from Midhurst is on C58 and Heathfield's is on C47. Philip LaneTuesday 18 December 2012 12:01PM
Burgess Hill Philip Lane: Thank you Dave, I have checked today and yes I am tuned into Midhurst C58. The sound on all HD channels is still breaking up at times for 1 second including BBC2 this morning?
I am certainly puzzled?Mike DimmickWednesday 19 December 2012 12:25PM
Philip Lane: It's worth checking if there are any firmware updates for your TV. The encoders for Freeview HD can switch between interlaced and progressive modes for each Group of Pictures (GoP), depending on how well that GoP compresses in each mode. Some TVs don't cope well with a change of mode, resetting all the hardware, causing a break in audio as well as video. (They expected mode changes to only occur when switching channels or sources.)
Because the mode switches depend on the content transmitted, they will occur apparently at random, even within a programme, and different channels will be affected at different times.
