From Wikipedia: The ITV1 brand was introduced by Carlton and Granada in 2001, alongside the regional identities of their eleven regional companies. However in line with other terrestrial channels, ITV1's audience share has fallen in the era of multi-channel television. ITV existed in a region-heavy form from its inception to the 2000s, although the switch was gradual. - en.wikipedia.org

Wolverhampton Using the Wrekin transmitter and after re-tuning my TV it seems that I can no longer received ITV1. Is there a problem in the area or os this a localised issue? For info, I already have 2 sets, one of which we havent re-tuned and is working perfectly for al channels.A

In recent weeks I have noticed that ITV1 West programmes around 17.00 are suffering from severe breaking up of picture with loud crackling sounds. The same happens with BBC1 but BBC2 and some other channels are fine (I've obviously not checked them all). I receive Freeview via a DVD player/recorder as my TV is non digital. Any suggestions??V

Thanks for your reply - nothing has changed in the household regarding electrical appliances which might cause this and it has only started happening recently.. Yesterday and today I'm getting a 'no service' message for BBC1 too as well as the breaking up pictures on ITV1.Why is my ITV1 pausing sound and picture stopping my enjoyment of programmes? J

Jimmi James: When that happens its usually always due to your signal glitching, this causing a momentary picture / audio freeze, and nothing really connected with the broadcaster, although digital signals can glitch anywhere along the line from their source.B

Reception is extremely poor on ITV channels. I am using a professionally fitted digital arial, a new digital box and an hd ready 32 inch tv. the signal keeps breaking up. Will this improve when the switch occurs.J

b.Lording: Its really quite impossible to say without making checks on the transmitters involved, this not being possible without knowledge of your location.

Haywards Heath I was just watching Meridian Tonight on ITV Meridian and saw they are now showing a DOG in the bottom left corner.
Switched to ITV1 London and they also now have a DOG on London Tonight.
I guess they think that they we are too thick to no which channel we are on without the DOGs.
Can the ITV1 owners please tattoo on their forehead "I work for ITV", so we will know who they are.
How long until they show them on all programs?Mark A.: I guess that's a rhetorical question... P

I live in Harrogate and love watching Yorkshire TV, I believe our aerial is pointing to Emily Moor and we have a mast head amplifier on it. Before 7th September analogue reception was fine Now after switchover wirh a settop box Calendar etc. BBC1, BBC2 is 100% signal strength but ITV is around 30% and keeps breaking up. If I understand it correctly, the BBC channels are being transmitted at 184,000 watts but Yorkshire channels at only 10,000 watts. No wonder we are struggling to get a good signal. Good you explain to me why it is being broadcast at a fraction of BBC?E

ITV1 and ITV3 disappeared for much of evening on 22 October, appeared in a fragmented format from about 22.00; and has disappeared again today,23 October, in London N1.
Retuning the TV and the DVB player has made no difference whatsoever.J

ITV1 channel keeps freezing, not happening with
BBC channels, then it disappears altogether. Started happening today A

Until switch over the ITV central east signal from the Waltham transmitter in my area LE9 6 (south west leicestershire was very good. despite retuning several times now, ITV is almost unwatchable. I notice from the coverage maps that sutton coldfield is the strongest signal for my area, but I live in the east midlands and have little interest in west midlands television. Have offcom changed regional boundaries?J
jb38Sunday 30 October 2011 7:28PM
anon: Yes, but have you ensured that the signal you want is actually coming from Waltham? try a signal check on ITV1 noting the Mux channel number being shown, which from Waltham should be Mux Ch54. (BBC1 being Mux Ch61)

Richmond Hi
I live in north sheen, london, tw and am having difficulties getting itv1 and itv2. My tv (digital with inbuilt digi box) says I have bad or no signal. I bought a digi recorder and it is even worse when I plug arial into it. I am using an inside arial and all other main channels work well. Would appreciate advice on how to fix problem. Do I need outside arial? Or do I need to buy tv package with sky / virgin for it to work which I am reluctant to do?!
Thanks
Thanks Sarah KK,Richmond.Yes you do need an outdoor aerial as such to receive stable freeview reception.Hard to say without a full postcode but if you are on the Crystal Palace mast then if you reside within a poor/marginal reception area within as such then you will require a group A Yagi 18A or group A X-Beam XB16A antenna as such, but if you reside with a good/medium reception area within Crystal Palace itself a Log Periodic which is a group W wideband antenna can be used. However do not use group W wideband aerials on an all group A transmitter such as Crystal Palace within its marginal/poor reception boundaries itself. Sarah k k: An outside aerial is preferred.
Don't expect perfect reception with an indoor aerial (that is not to say that perfect reception can ever be got). It is common to find that that certain channels can be picked up better than others in one location. Then moving the aerial might make some worse and others better. Finding that sweet spot where they all work can be tricky. And then there's the possibility that people moving around or vehicles passing by might affect reception.
In general, with an indoor aerial I would be looking to put it at the side of the house that the signal comes from. If there are obstructions outside, e.g. walls, another house, an annex or garage, try and position it so that these aren't in the way (or so that there as few a walls as possible. You may have to use an extension lead so that you can move your aerial further away from the television.
But as I say, if possible, get a roof-top aerial. N

Briantist: There are two more, what I believe will be ITV channels, on Astra 1N transponder 11053/H/22000. They are identified by their SID numbers 20735 and 20745. At the moment they are both colour bars with WILLIAM ROAD printed on them. This is the same transponder as ITV 1 Central South and ITV 1 Central East. NottsUK: I would expect that ITV will want to migrate the remaining encoded regions on transponder 36 (Meridian Sussex, Merdian North, Anglia West, Yorkshire East, TTTV South, Central South West and West Yorkshire+1) as soon as possible? We have a freeview tv downstairs, which shows all the channels with no problem. However, we have just bought a new lg freeview tv for the bedroom and I have tried to autotune it twice, but it is not showing ITV1, Ch4 or 5. ITV 3 and Ch 5+1 is on there, as well as all the BBC channels and numerous others. What should we do?
We live in north Hampshire, and usually have London TV.DianeS: Does the upstairs TV use the same aerial as the downstairs one? D
DianeSThursday 5 January 2012 6:43PM
Yateley DianeS: Yes. It is an outside aerial.DianeS: Try manually tuning to Ch22. If it doesn't work, then try taking the new TV to the aerial connection downstairs and try manually tuning Ch22.
Once you have successfully added ITV1, C4 etc, then don't rescan until switchover, even if you take the TV upstairs and find that it doesn't work. This is because the issue is clealry not the tuning that is wrong, but it would appear to be insufficient signal. D
DaveHFriday 6 January 2012 6:20PM
Chislehurst Until Christmas I had a service on Ch22 (although often with some pixellation). Now I have no signal at all on this channel. SO I have no ITV1, Ch4 or Ch5 etc.
Nothing has changed to my aerial, so I'm assuming the transmission has changed. Can anyone confirm this, and if so does anyone know when it will be resolved.
It seem ridiculous that the cessation of analogue id approaching and the digital service has now got worse.J
jb38Friday 6 January 2012 9:20PM
DaveH: On checking the reception predicted for your area I see that although the BBC transmissions are shown as being reasonable ITV certainly isn't, with it being in the category of being variable and remaining that way until April 18th.
The signal will of course still likely be there, but has just dropped to under the reception threshold for your equipment through possibly normal atmospheric changes, so if you haven't tried a re-scan (which will have wiped it from the EPG list) try selecting ITV (albeit the screen might be blank) and go into the TV / boxes tuning menu / signal check screen to see what level its sitting at, noting what's shown, then do the same on BBC to compare them with each other.
You could though just carry out a factory re-set to scrub everything stored then follow that by manually tuning in Mux Ch22, then if ITV comes in OK use the "add channels" or whatever your set calls it to recover the remaining muxes. My reason for suggesting this procedure being that a TV or box will sometimes pick up and lock onto a signal that's manually tuned in, where in many cases it wont during a auto-scan.
If though as would be expected the ITV signal is quite a bit lower than the BBC, then the only way to lift it is by using a booster in line with the aerial socket.
J
jb38Friday 6 January 2012 11:52PM
DaveH: Meant to also add, that should you go along the booster route then it would likely become redundant in April 18th when the transmitter concerned moves from 20kw to 200Kw as in theory this will cure numerous peoples problems, except that is possibly for some that's went over the top in upgrading their aerial systems, as they will most likely find it necessary to fit attenuators to rectify signal over load problems.

Yateley Re my earlier problems not getting ITV1, Ch4,Ch5, etc when autotuning our new TV in the bedroom.
We took your advice and set the TV up in the other room using the other aerial socket. Doing this we were able to receive these channels. However, back on the wall in the bedroom, it just said 'no signal' for those channels!
Using trial and error, we have discovered that the channels are fine when we use the aerial cable from the other room, but not with the new one we bought. Unfortunately we have had some problems getting an aerial cable to fit behind the TV on the wall, the original one we purchased didn't fit as the connections stuck out too far. We got a new one with right angled connections, but found the ends were wrong, so replaced that with another one with two male ends. However this is now the one that is not working. The whole thing is driving us mad!
It seems to be difficult finding anywhere that sells coax cables with right-angled connections, and we got that one from the internet, but it seems like the qualtity must be duff, so what do we do now?
Bedroom wall has had new wiring put in, plaster re-skimmed and decorated, etc - so we have to have the TV on the wall.
Any advice please, before we through the wretched thing out the window?? ThanksD
