Since the digital changover 30/09/2009 my channel five signal/reception has become unwatchable due to the picture and sound constantly breaking up. My channel five reception prior to the changover was good!
Are there any plans to address this situation? I live in Chester (CH3 area.)

On your recent 'Monster Moves' programme, you showed a Spitfire being transported to the USA. It was stated that the person receiving the spitfire had a world war 1 tiger moth. The DeHavilland Tiger Moth did not make it's maiden flight until 1931. It's cousin, the Gipsy Moth flew some 6 years earlier. The First World War ended on 11th November 1918. The programme also stated that the Spitfire went into production just before the second world war, and was developed using the Packard Merlin engine. This is not correct. Packard (USA) were not licensed to produce Merlin engines until 1941, and even then I do not believe they were ever used in main-build Spitfires.

Briantist: The final Channel 5 region on Astra 1N is now free-to-air, (whether it will remain free-to-air we will have to wait and see). It is Channel 5 Region 2 or South Central, (SID 7701), and has up till now been encrypted. Now that all the Channel 5 regions are free of encryption on Astra 1N, the one on the BBC transponder on Astra 2D can now be switched off.

I have recently changed my (rental) TV for a digital model, ready for the Great Switchover.
Rooftop aerial, Crystal Palace Xmttr, I am in Lower Lea Valley.
It works *most* of the time, but sometimes loses channel mapping (CH4 comes up as HEART,f'rinstance.) I read your instructions on 'back to square one' retune and all is now OK, BUT I suspect the aerial extension cable from the outlet box. Is Digital more 'fussy' than analog re the quality of any cabling ?

Jude Fisher: What is the make and model of your receiver?

Some have difficulty receiving the pre-switchover and post-switchover signals at the same time (which is what you have in the two weeks in between).

An idea of your location and transmitter may be useful so that we can check on predicted coverage. Your post code or that of a nearby property such as a shop may be useful.
