I have a Sony Bravia and two other TVs in my house, all receive their signal via the same aerial & mux. Following the recent retune (22nd Feb) I have lost Film4 on my Sony TV while the other TVs continue to receive Film4. Can you explain please.jb38Tuesday 28 February 2012 11:17PM
Peter Bayer: This type of problem can be caused by your Sony having picked up the multiplex film 4 uses from an alternative transmitter, but its impossible to give constructive advice without having knowledge of your location, (pref: post code) this to enable your reception possibilities to be checked on.
By the way this is quite a common thing to happen where more than one TV / box is in a property, and is basically caused by the sensitivity differences between tuners as well as other factors concerning scanning methods used.

I live in Walsall WS5 (west midlands).
I have a siginal boost and split and have multipal TV's connecting to it. All is fine and I can also pick up freeview HD. However my Sony Bravia at night times does not pickup film 4 (all other channels are fine). My other TV's are fine at night and pick up film 4 OK. Not sure why this is happending can anyone help??jb38Saturday 3 March 2012 11:42AM
Vin: Your aerial arrangement should (in theory anyway) be capable of feeding an over powerful signal into your TV's as you are only 6 miles away from the very high powered Sutton Coldfield transmitting station, and it could be that the Sony TV's sensitive tuner cannot cope with this situation.
"If" the booster you refer to is separate from the splitter then for a test try by passing it, but should it be combined with the booster then if its at all possible try connecting the aerial straight into the Sony's feed and check the results of this action, if it cures the problem then it requires an attenuator to be fitted in line with the Sony's aerial socket.

I live in Framlingham, Suffolk, postcode IP13 and have not been able to receive Film4 since the changeover, despite frequent retunes. It worked fine before changeover via the digibox. Having the same trouble with SAky news which used to work before changeover. Neither shows up on the EPG.Derek Hewitson: If you receive your TV from Sudbury then many many people are in the same position, in particular with Arqiva B multiplex which carries Yesterday, Film4 and others.
All the Commercial multiplexes will remain on low power until 27th June. shirieWednesday 7 March 2012 9:18PM
London I live in NW3 and cannot receive Film 4 anymore since 22 Feb. What can I do to fix this?
Thank youLinda MiattSaturday 10 March 2012 12:28PM
SO31 postcode and I have the same problem with picking up Film 4 on my Freeview + box.... it's OK if viewed just via the TV aeriel (i.e. the same aeriel that my box is plugged into).Linda Miatt: Try manually tuning to channel 33 if your box allows. Derek SmithWednesday 14 March 2012 7:21PM

Before the start your announcer said "English prisoners" there was one "Scottish prisoner" would it have choked him to say "British prisoners"????????????nickFriday 23 March 2012 7:28PM
i am in so50 area and have also lost film4. any suyggestions???jb38Friday 23 March 2012 8:39PM
nick: You are indicated as being served by the Rowridge transmitter, and on checking same I dont feel that your problem will really be rectified until April 18th when the multiplex used by Film 4 etc increases its power, that is as well as changing its mux channel number being used as April 18th is a re-tuning event day.
I'm in the Lincoln area and we've been avoiding the update due to folks losing channels. My OH didn't realise this and retuned tonight and now we've lost Film4 along with Yesterday and a whole bunch of other channels :( I tried resetting the TV and whatnot (according to advice).... now I only get bbc1, bbc2, bbc3, itv3, qvc, bidtv, itv2+1, 5*, 5usa, 5+1, challenge, and bbc news. Some of the other channels are there but are blank or display broken images from other channels and others are just missing :( Apparently no issues with the local transmitters... jb38Sunday 25 March 2012 9:43PM
Hannah Chacko: Where you are located at slightly to the West of Lincoln you should be able to receive good signals from both Belmont and Waltham, the problem being that its very easy for your TV to pick up a mix from both places, what you should do is have a check up in the 800 channel ranges for duplicates of the channels that's not very good on the lower numbers, and if you find one and its OK then carry out a signal check on it for purposes of noting the mux channel number seen along with the strength indication, unless that is you also see East Midlands or Yorkshire / East Lincs indicated, if not though check the mux channel against the list below and that will indicate where the signal is coming from.
Use that same procedure on any channel that's not very good and check it against the list, as the only way you are liable to regain good reception is by resetting your TV to scrub anything stored, then manually tune in the channels known to be the best.
Belmont: 22 - 25 - 30 - 28 - 53 - 60
Waltham: 61 - 54 - 29 - 58 - 56 - 57David JoynsonMonday 26 March 2012 9:13PM
We live in St Albans and we have completely lost Film 4 and some other channels since Sunday. Why has this happened? It has been perfect for years? Have they suddenly reduced the transmitter power? If so why have they done this.Gen MalcolmMonday 26 March 2012 9:31PM
Bishop's Stortford I live nr Stansted airport. CM23 5LQ. I have lost a few channels and reception is dire on what remains. We have sony bravia and BT broadband. Both v sketchy...do they interfere with eachother? Do i need to retune? We just have a cable aerial...that's all. SamanthaWednesday 4 April 2012 10:57PM
After a couple of goes retuning my Sony I have got Channel 4 back, but Film 4 is now on channel 807 and Yesterday is on 816. I have the auto retune setup for overnight and am hoping that it wil sort itself out in time, maybe after 18th April when the power goes up, as suggested above.
Meanwhile my Russian made, reconditioned, £40 hard disk recorder from Maplin has retuned first time perfectly. Off the same aerial connection.
It seems Sonys were particularly bad back in 2009 when other regions went digital. Surely they should have resolved it by now.Brendan WalshThursday 5 April 2012 9:34AM

Brendan Walsh: In some cases dependant on location, it may be found necessary to manually tune in the multiplex channels required if residing in an area where its possible to receive signals from more than one station, but first of all I suggest that you remove the aerial and carry out a complete auto-tune without this connected, this action being to delete anything stored in the tuners memory, then once completed carry out another auto-tune "after" having first of all reconnected the aerial.
Should you still experience a problem after this action then a post code (or one from very nearby) will be required to determine the transmitter(s) that cover the area.GuyThursday 5 April 2012 10:17PM
Hi, I have Sony Bravia tv in RG1 postcode. We have lost Film 4 and Russia today. Some days we have loads of channels, other days very few. Have tried manual re-tune, but now Film 4 does not appear in the channel group listings [42, 45 etc] although it is stated we should receive a good signal. Any ideas? thanks.Mrs. M. WilsonFriday 6 April 2012 6:28PM
I live in East Lothian. Although Film 4 is fine during the daytime it either breaks up or disappears totally in the evening. All other programmes are fine. jb38Friday 6 April 2012 8:19PM
Mrs. M. Wilson: East Lothian is a large area and as such you have to be more precise with regards to your location such as providing a post code, or at least one from nearby premises like a shop or pub, as this will enable signal checking to be carried out, although when you say that all other programmes are fine does that also include EPG 10-ITV3 / 11-Pick TV / 12-Yesterday?
That being said though, it could be that your signal level is running a bit on the low side and is dropping out of the box in the evenings though natural fluctuations in signal strength that generally occurs then, so when this happens again keep the TV or box on the same channel and carry out a signal strength check (done via tuning menu) and noting the level seen, then when the signal returns do the same check again and note what the difference is, as you "might" require a booster to overcome this problem unless there is some deficiency in your aerial system that requires rectification.

I have just brought a freeview box for the bedroom and we are unable to get film four post code area GU27 ...please adivseSandra Jackson: Could you be more specific with your location and/or the transmitter you are receiving from if you know it?
There are some areas that Film 4 and the other Commercial channels are not available. GU27 includes Haslemere which I know is one of those areas where reception of these channels is problematic or not possible at all. sandra jacksonSaturday 7 April 2012 11:02AM
Yes I live in Haslemere ...well Hammer to be exact .. I think we receive from Midhurst or Holy Cross (I not quite sure).Sandra Jackson: If you receive from Holy Cross, then you will not get any of the Commercial channels because it does not transmit them. So if you have ITV3 and Pick TV, then you must be receiving from Midhurst.
The multiplex (ArqB) which carries Film 4, Yesterday, 4Music, ITV4 and others is on low power from Midhurst until 25th April. If you receive it now (albeit intermittently), then you shouldn't need to tune it in on that date as it is only an increase in transmission power.
If you have manual tuning available on your receiver(s), then there is likely no need to do a full automatic tuning scan, but instead manually tune to UHF channel 50. You could try this now as that is what it is on now, albeit at lower power. GuySunday 8 April 2012 10:00AM

Hi,
I have a Topfield Freeview recorder that up until a few days ago received Film 4 fine. Now it seems to pick up the station but doesn't display a picture. This is not the only channel that i seem to have lost.
I live in hastings with a TN37 postcode. Checking I can see that there is a switchover planned but reading it it still seems to think that I should be picking up the channels. I have re-tuned the box today just to see what happens and still no luck.Julie StaceyWednesday 11 April 2012 11:44PM
Hi
Ive lost (Channel 15) Film 4 since the digital switchover in Worthing, West Sussex
Im so dissapointed, its all I ever watched.
Ive retuned a few times to see if its returned but there is no chanel 15 anymore
Poo!Julie Stacey: Can you be more specific?
I gather you received Freeview before switchover which means that you should be able to get the full service afterwards.
Rowridge transmitter which is on the Isle of Wight is currently on low power for Film 4 and other Commercial services. The power will increase on 18th April when a retune will be necessary. This leads me to suspect that your receiver is tuned to Rowridge now.
What direction is your aerial pointing in? Is it towards the Isle of Wight or is it eastwards towards Brighton? EddieFriday 13 April 2012 11:14AM
I live in East Sussex (TN39)and with my Humax PVR have for the last 3 years been recieving digital tv with no problems other the the odd freeze framing. For the last few months most of the time I am unable to receive any commercial channels (BBC ect.OK).
I am informed my signal is coming from Hastings. Why this problem now?Eddie: If you be more specific about your location, preferably full post code.
It would also be useful to know exactly which groups (multiplexes or "muxes") of programme channels that you are missing.
See "Before switchover configuration" and identify which you have and which you are missing, including which you had in the past and perhaps those which you have never had:
Freeview multiplexes | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice Mike DimmickFriday 13 April 2012 12:06PM
Eddie: It's likely the problem is due to the power increases at sites that have already switched over.
Hastings Mux 2, A and B use the same frequencies as Rowridge, which is now transmitting at effectively double the old power, and on vertical polarization as well as horizontal - before it only used horizontal polarization.
Hastings Mux D is on the same channel as Whitehawk Hill BBC A, again effectively double the old power.
It's likely that there's nothing you can do until Hastings switches over in June.john merchantTuesday 17 April 2012 12:06PM
Samantha: Hi - i use Waltham transmitter which is within eyesight. Panasonic TV and technica HD freeview box both pick up Film 4 quality/strength 9/9.
However my Luxor digital recorder using exactly the same aerial input doesn't. Tried manual search to no avail.
Any ideas please?KWHWednesday 18 April 2012 4:16PM

I can't get Film4 Freeview, TV screen states ''No CI module'' (I'm in postal area SR1 2AS)

Hi I live in north London n9 post code and I have lost film 4 also since the the switch over this morning. I have all other channels except this one.
Please help! thanks :(Roger KentFriday 20 April 2012 12:01AM
since the switchover on the 18th I've retuned
twice just to get back ITV4 and Film4 cause they keep disappearing which is rather
sinister.I live in NW3 and have also lost Film 4 since retuning on 18th April using a Grundig box - our other TV with a built in Freeview receiver does receive Film 4 ok since retuning. Have tried 1st time installation twice and a manual re-tune all to no avail - This is really frustrating! Can anyone help? Sarah, Roger Kent, John Nutt and anyone else missing Film 4 since retuning for Crystal Palace, please give the make and model number of your device.
There are some known issues with known devices that may prevent them from receiving Film 4 and other services on Arqiva B multiplex such as Yesterday. Thanks Dave Lindsay - I've tweeted you directly but my Grundig Box is GUSTB160IV - by the way I've tried clearing all channels and repeating 1st time install but still no luck!
All the channel 28 stations are missing and nothing comes up either when doing a manual search.
Thanks for you offer to help! John Nutt: It appears that the issue is as I suspected; that your box will not receive channels with a negative offset and in 8k mode.
Basically, signals are transmitted on channels. Each channel is at a particular frequency. This channel from Crystal Palace has a negative offset which means that the signal is at slightly lower frequency than the "centre" frequency of channel 28.
After switchover, signals use 8k mode rather than the former 2k mode.

There was a firmware (similar to software) update for your model.
If came across this page on the Vestel T810 (which your model is based on):
Unofficial Vestel PVR Information (UK) - T810 Freeview Recorder
Google various terms such as vestel t810 negative offset. You may be able to confirm that the firmware version you have (it will tell you somewhere in the menu system) is not the most up-to-date.
I am not sure whether there is a way of updating the firmware now it's not broadcast over the air. Perhaps one of the pros on here could advise. Dave Lindsay: Thanks for your very helpful reply. It seems we might need a new box and perhaps time to purchase an HD one - unless anyone else can suggest a fix? I know our box was manufactured in 2006. Meanwhile I will check firmware as you have suggested. Many thanks! Helen RussellSaturday 21 April 2012 7:10PM
Colchester All of a sudden film4 has disappeared. Running on freeview Sudbury transmitter. All tv's running off the same ariel. Sony bravia and humax no longer show film4 (no channel 15) after trying full rescan and individual scan (63). Upstairs Sony bravia running off same ariel appears unaffected showing film4. Seems too much of a coincidence that this is not connected to the latest digital switch though it should not have impacted our area post code CO5Peter BowlerTuesday 24 April 2012 6:06PM
Film 4 and ITV4 have disappeared since the re-tuning exercise on April 18th. Received digital channels via FreeView perfectly well before April 18th with a year-old digibox. Now most of the good channels have disappeared despite re-tuning daily.
How much taxpayers money has this all cost?Percy VeranceTuesday 24 April 2012 9:01PM
Belvedere Our postal code is DA17 5PD and we, too, have lost channels 12 (history) & 15 (film) - our two favourites. So much for the wonders of digital! Will these problems EVER be rectified? Not a rhetorical question, nor unreasonable! Just my observations but we are sending spacecraft beyond the outer reaches of space as we know it, whilst down here countries are invaded with hostility, children are dying of diarrhoea and TV channels disappear. I don’t want to know why, I want someone I can trust to say, “Leave it with me and I’ll make sure it never happens again.” Will the world’s ignorant and overpaid powers that be, please get their acts together! Or give me the job.Percy Verance: Short answer: "Probably not"
Long answer: As the problem is likely to be within your own system, then it is your responsibility and therefore if you do not wish to do anything to try and solve the problem then the likely answer to your question is that the problem will not be fixed. Percy VeranceTuesday 24 April 2012 10:37PM
Hello Dave. Thank you for your prompt reply. Apologies for being cynical but... that's the extent of digital TV, is it? DIY! I was nurtured on ink wells, mental arithmetic and The BBC Light Programme. Please tell me how to overcome my TV channel problems and retrieve our favourites in a way that this pensioner can understand and I will do my best. My parents and I await in anticipation and we thank you :-)
