Sandbach Ten 10 days ago I purchased a Philips DTR220 box and it worked fine until today. Now when we switch to Cbeebies it works for a few seconds then goes black, but we have the audio and red button logo. Have tried rescanning etc but it's still the same. Is it a fault with the box? I would be very grateful for any help as we are lost without the channel!!Eric BriggsMonday 22 December 2008 2:27PM
Sandbach Sorry I forgot to say we get all the other channels in the multiplex so it's not an aeriel faultEric BriggsTuesday 23 December 2008 4:25PM
Sandbach Thank you Briantist, the problem seems to have righted itself but from what I've since read online it could be a software fault with the box as many people have experienced the same problem.Eric Briggs: OK, let me know if the problem returns. SarahMonday 16 February 2009 2:11PM

I have retuned my panasonic digital TV today as Cbeebies and BBC4 signals were breaking up all the time. Other channels and my digital HD recorder are fine. However I have lost these channels on the TV (software on it is up to date).DinaMonday 10 January 2011 4:24AM

I have had a new aerial put up and can get every programme except cbeebies. Can you kindly tell me what to do to get it? My old aerial used to pick it up quite well.I live in the Poole neighbourhood about 10 -15 miles from IOW. Mike DimmickMonday 4 April 2011 3:45PM
Reading Dennis Pedley: Can you provide a full postcode? We can check the prediction to see how well this is expected to work for you.
CBeebies is carried on Multiplex B, the BBC's second multiplex. As they're losing this after switchover, and in switchover regions, they've pretty much cleared it - it carries only BBC Four (which uses CBeebies' slot in the evening), BBC Parliament, the Red Button interactive stream and the BBC radio stations. They've also made space available temporarily for Sky Sports 1 and 2 in regions that haven't yet switched over.
If you're missing all those channels, you could try the suggestions at Single Frequency Interference.
There is, however, a chance that the signals are now too strong. There was no need to change aerials for switchover - all channels will be within the previous analogue group, and all digital services are within that group at present. If you had clear analogue pictures, you should have been fine.
If you have an amplifier or booster, you could consider removing it. Otherwise, consider adding an attenuator.
At switchover, the Rowridge transmitter will begin transmitting signals with vertical polarization, as well as horizontal polarization as it does now. This is to try to reduce problems with picking up signals and interference from France. To use this, your aerial will need to be rotated so that the rods point up-and-down rather than side-to-side. The commercial channels will not start on vertical polarization until later in 2012, and will broadcast at lower power on horizontal than on polarization, though still 2.5 times current power levels.Gill BillingMonday 11 April 2011 9:50PM
Hi there. I have just bought a skyline/Philex 28207RF freesat box so that my little 'un can watch CBeebies but the tv screen says there is no service because of no epgi(not sure what that is). As a technophobe, can I sort this out myself or do I need to contact the manufacturer if there is something wrong with the box? We are desperate please.Gill Billing: You should probably have bought a branded Freesat box. AdamTuesday 28 June 2011 8:36AM

Cbeebies is transmitted on Hotbird at 13degrees East. Requires Viacess and or Conax decryption. You may be able to pick this up with a dish aligned to this satellite.lesnicolWednesday 27 July 2011 4:18PM
cristian - If you can get Cbeebies it's possible the audio maybe in Polish. It's also possible that English audio maybe offered to and this should be able to be accessed via the receiver your using by pressing the Audio options on the remote. It's also possible that you may be able to pick this up from Astra at 28degrees East but would expect you may need a realy large dish antenna.MattFriday 19 August 2011 10:49PM
GregJenkins: The aerial must be mounted with a vertical polarisation and the transmitter is also a group A mast.MattFriday 19 August 2011 10:53PM
@Adam: I heard that using VPNs/Proxie sis illegal for BBC channels.Matt: Technically speaking, there has never been a court case over the matter, so it is still somewhat "up in the air". SueFriday 9 September 2011 6:25PM
Hi since 7 September our cbeebies and cbbc channels are no longer available. We having been retuning but nothing. We live in the West Midlands, so not too sure if that has anything to do with it. We also live in a block of flats, but we had info through to say that the aerial was being sorted out prior to this date.JasmineSaturday 17 September 2011 4:23PM

Bishop Auckland Hi. I don't have a tv and am considering buying one so my children can watch CBeebies. We haven't had the digital switchover and won't until the end of next year (we're the last area to get it). Will I need equipment other than a tv that has Freeview in order to get CBeebies? Thanks.jb38Friday 28 October 2011 5:14PM
Jen5: Basically a Freeview TV is all that's required plus a suitable aerial, or the one presently used turned around to face the Weardale transmitter, unless that is you are already using it for your analogue reception, your area being a bit iffy as far as reception is concerned.
As you are having to wait until next September 26th for reception of only the BBC / ITV / HD service as Weardale will only be a PSB station, why don't you consider Freesat? (if allowed a dish) because as well as it being ultra reliable for reception you would have the full compliment of programmes straight away.
Some TV's have Freesat built in, or you could use a normal TV coupled to a Freesat box. (even an old analogue TV so long as it has a scart socket)
jb38Friday 28 October 2011 5:18PM
Jen5: just to add, provided your reason for not having a TV is NOT because there is no signal at your location, as this is unlikely to change any.

Hello. Thank you for your help. No, that's not my reason: I just don't really watch tv. I've never had a tv in this house and we don't have any existing aerial. I've heard the reception is bad around here. Some of our neighbours have dishes; some have aerials. I'd like to be able to get Cbeebies and digital radio station BBC 6 Music. I don't really need anything else. Do you think an aerial would do this? If Freesat would be better, would buying a tv with Freesat or a Freesat box be instead of a dish, or along with it? I can put up a dish on my house, but would rather not as I don't like the look of it. It will cost such a lot to buy all of this stuff - tv, dvd, aerial/dish/box, etc that I want to ensure I will be able to get Cbeebies before I start buying. Thanks for your help. This really is very, very helpful for me.Jen5Thursday 3 November 2011 8:53PM
Also, can you tell me what the difference would be between an aerial and freesat? Since I don't already have an aerial, it might be worth a little extra to get freesat instead? Would an aerial mean a couple of channels and freesat 50+ or something? Or does it mean better reception? Thanks.jb38Thursday 3 November 2011 9:35PM
Jen5: Just had a check at your reception possibilities, and I have to say that at this present time they aren't really very promising, with this situation not really showing any signs of improvement until September 2012.
Even then though you "might" only be able to receive PSB transmissions from Weardale, this being the case I would recommend that you go along the Freesat line, as satellite reception is 99.9% of the time perfect, as its only sometimes during a heavy rainstorm that the picture might be seen to glitch slightly.

Hello we were just visiting in the UK and love Cbeesbees - can you get it in North America maybe on satallite?PurpleVFriday 27 April 2012 6:41PM
Hi. I live in the North East (we've not switched over yet) and have a freeview box.
When the weather's bad, the BBC channels are usually the first to start blocking or disappear completely, with Cbeebies taking the lead.
Is there a reason why the BBC channels disappear first and will this disruption continue to occur in bad weather when the digital switchover occurs? Many thanks. PurpleV: The increase in power will hopefully be enough.
If you are receiving from Bilsdale Moor, then the transmission power of the BBC signal is lower than that of ITV1, C4 etc. Also there is engineering works going on at all the transmitters that currently transmit Freeview and this is in preparation for switchover. PurpleVFriday 27 April 2012 8:19PM
DL thanks for your reply.
My nearest transmitter is Pontop Pike, but I assume the same thing applies.
I'll wait and see what happens in September and hope it doesn't rain in the meantime!A lot of spammers on this page.
