I am increasingly angry at the way the World Service and the BBC in general are becoming increasinly populist and down market.
I live in Cyprus and my neighbours including many British and Scandinavian people. The Scandinavians speak better English, are better educated and more intelligent.
When I travel to America I find television programs impossible to watch because they are designed to appeal to people with no interest or curiosity about the world. This is the country that elected George W Bush as president, a man with no interest in or understanding of foreign policy, just like so many American voters. The end result of his presidency was a world that was less stable and less peaceful.
It seems the BBC has abrogated its original aim of providing programs that inform, educate and entertain, in that order. It now provides junk food for the most stupid section of the British public.
As far as the WS is concerned, even my football mad husband groans at the endless hours of sport at the weekends on the radio, and the forthcoming documentary on football.
Please can you hire some educated producers who understand how rewarding it is to open doors for people, rather than to pander to people's base instincts.
