Channel 59 (BBC4, BBC parliament, etc.) from the Hemel Hempstead transmitter has been corrupt on sound and vision for several days, even though the signal strength is the usual 60% which normally gives 100% reception.

Will this be fixed soon?

Our Freeview digital reception is lousy in postcode area SK10 5LY, serviced by the Winterhill transmitter, for ITV1, ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4. Channels 4 and 5 are also very poor. Reception was very good until a few weeks agao. What is going on please? When will we see an improvement?

Despite frequent retuning of my Humax-F2 FoxT set top box, the signal strenght post switch-over (as registered by the stb) has degenerated to such a poor state the picture is unwatchable on Granada ITV1 . There were no problems prior to the switch-over for this area served by Winter Hill. Channel4 is 'blocky' but BBC1/2 and C5 seem OK. Is there a work round for ITV1- I need a solution before xmas

Can I add my comments that scince the change over I have to retune various TV/Recorders frequently and one every day. Also on a retune it frequently picks up Welsh channels even though the signal strength is poor. Pixalisation etc was there before the change over but not loss of channels. The worst is channel 59. I also wonder if the equipment's processor/memory is capable of handling the capactity?

hi, thanks briantist..i have looked and its mux 2 it seems..single channel interference..however, i haven't a clue how to fix this....we alreay have a booster and amplifier and wideband aerial..also the signal on other channels has reduced in some instances by a little bit

however, main prob is mux 2 which covers itv 1 , e4 , ch4 etc.....

guess i will just have to wait for the installation company to take a look but they have said could be a week or two....

vicki: You could try turning the amplifier off, this might help.
vicki
Wednesday 26 May 2010 8:54PM Chester
thank you..thing is the amplifier is to help boost the signal..its not a stereo amp for a stereo or something..its actually to amplify the signal from aerial

all was perfect until yesterday so am wondering if perhaps the severe heat then colder weather has damaged the aerial cables?
Briantist

vicki: Yes, TV signal amplifiers are often the cause of Freeview signal loss.

If you have had a sudden loss, please see www.ukfree.tv link icon Freeview reception has changed? | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

thank you briantist...have no idea what to do really the cable to the tv and amp seems fine...am bit perplexed.. we need the amp to actually get the signal as previously there was no reception in the living room so am reluctant to take this off as may damage something and the engineer may then refuse to check it out you see.

thanks though

i am struggling to get channel 4 at present. using the manual search on my Panasonic TV get quality and strength of 10 on CH59 778.00MHz. my postcode is L34 5SX and we tend to get signal from both Winter Hill and North Wales

Tim: You might be overloading the box with too much signal. First check www.ukfree.tv link icon Single frequency interference | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice - if everything seems OK there, remove any boosters or amplifiers from your system.

If you still don't have a stable multiplex PSB2 signal, you will need to fit an attenuator. These cost around a fiver.

My postcode is ST13 7HU and recieve signal from Winter Hill.

Panasonic TV all channels recieved on 59 are blocky on vision and corrupt sound. However all channels recieved on the BT Vision box are ok, have tried direct aerial feed to both and the Vision box is ok

mike: I would start by replacing the aerial "fly leads" you use to connect to the TV set. Otherwise the TV could have a fault.

This morning, my samsung LE37R8 was receiving TV just fine in postcode NE6, but this evening, I get 'No signal'. No channels, nothing when I try to search again and auto-store etc, zilch; TV just says 'check aerial'. As far as I could see, the aerial is still okay, and there's a poor but definite analogue signal still coming through from it- just nothing digital. Unfortunately I've not got any other TVs or STBs to experiment with.

Any suggestions?

Since the Oxford transmitter upgrade on the 28th Sept 11 I've lost all the channels that have been moved on to C59 (Dave, E4+1, sky news etc). My box is showing no signal on that channel.

Is this going to be rectified, can I get my channels back another way?
Mike Dimmick
Friday 30 September 2011 3:24PM
Simon: See Single Frequency Interference - it could be that there is some other device blocking that channel.

This is also the only channel adjacent to another channel, and is the weaker of the pair. It could be a problem of too much signal. See www.ukfree.tv link icon Freeview signals: too much of a good thing is bad for you | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

signal is affected on C59 channels (5 is worst) in PR3 area. Menu says signal strength and quality is fine, integreated freeview in Panasonic TV, no problem til last few days and no high winds or weather to disturb perfectly functioning aerial. All other channels unaffected. Any ideas as to why?

Postcode RG14 6RJ - Hannington transmitter. Analog BBC switched off earlier this month. All Digital TVs OK, none of our Set top boxes worked fully (Humax F2-FoxT and Pace DTVA). Now all analog switched off, All digital TVs OK, set top boxes have failed completely. No SW update for either box. Are these now scrap? All worked fine before switchover.

Post Code RG10 - Hannington Transmitter. Humax F2-FOX T Set top box. Retune after switchover successful apart from Channel 42. Manual Tuning in 8K mode finds all the channels but no picture on any C42 programmes. Can anybody help?

Sunday 4 March 2012 3:49PM
iSkiapod: Have you done the "Default Setting" from the Installation menu prior to retuning? If not, the programmes that the F2-FOX finds on UHF42 will have been added to the programme list with numbers in the 800s (as the previous data for pre-DSO channels hasn't been removed, hence the blank screen).

Hi. I live in London Highgate, N6 area. We have a digital TV that has to be completely retuned every time we turn it on. It then picks up all channels and is fine but it is laborious to have to retune for 5 -8 minutes every time the set goes on.Any thoughts on how to solves this?

Hi, I live in WA15 0JP & get freeview from Winter Hill tranmsitter through an outside roof aerial. We started having problems receiving all TV channels on RF59 (ITV, Ch4, Ch5 etc) a few weeks ago, with the picture breaking up and occassionally losing the signal all together. This is now a regular occurence almost every evening! Signal strength tonight is only 20%. All other channels are fine. Please advise what is happening and what we can do about it? Many thanks.

Roz,Altrincham.I would strongly look up single frequency interference as the likely culprit for your current diificulty.
Roz
Thursday 20 September 2012 7:24PM Altrincham
Mark, I don't think this is the reason for our problem. We do use a hard drive to record channels on but have used it successfully for several years, and it makes no difference whether it is on or not. Also we only lose the signal in the evenings, and only in the last 1-2 months. If we need a wideband aerial surely it would be a problem all the time?

We have a Philips LCD TV 3 years old and a new High Gain aerial in M457LW area. We had no problem with the Winter Hill signal prior to 10 April 2013. I have retuned the TV (every possible way). and get ALL the channels installed which stay ON until the TV is switched off. When it is switched back on ITV 1 & 2 disappear i.e. C59 drops out. Is this a signal problem or is the TV faulty?
Dave Lindsay
Friday 3 May 2013 10:40PM
Alan Hibbert: C59 from Winter Hill is the highest channel and therefore found last during the scan. The answer is probably that the receiver finds channels from other transmitters before getting to Winter Hill's by the time which its tuning memory is full (for C59).

The answer is usually to have the aerial lead unplugged for part of the scan to prevent it from filling the memory with the ones you don't want, so as to leave room for those you do.

Have the aerial out until 50% and let us know if it does the trick.

Friday 3 May 2013 11:50PM
Alan Hibbert: Philips TV's generally had an option for resetting the device, this being accessed via TV menu / installation / factory settings, if seen you should select to carry this out then follow it by a further auto tune.

You could of course try what Dave Lindsay has suggested first, but "some" Philips models do not completely wipe the memory clear by using the aerial out procedure, and if problems still exist after having carried out the "aerial out until" procedure then reset to TV.
