charlene leonardi: Why do you say that? Over 10 million homes use it, which suggests otherwise.

If I've got poor or no ITV and 4/5 does it mean I've tuned into the wrong MUX number? I'm at SN4 7ES trying to tune to Oxford. BBC 1,2 SKY News all fine. Is there another MUX number to try? I think I started with 53?

Martin: There are betweeen six and twelve channels per multiplex depending on the mode, compression and time-sharing. The BBC SD channels are now all on the new multiplex on C53. The channels you mention are still in their previous location, Multiplex 2 on C68.

Some equipment has trouble with a mix of 2K and 8K modes. Other equipment cannot handle the larger Network Information Table - this problem usually isn't revealed until you rescan for channels. Still other equipment has trouble with very different signal levels across the multiplexes.

Hi we're in LU7 0QL and since the DSO on the 14th Sept we are having trouble with all the old BBC channels (MUX 1?). Our problem is all the BBC channels are missing from our EPG guide on our sony RDR-HXD890 Hard disc recorder. We've tried clearing all the old channels and doing the 'easy set up' scan to replace the channels (we couldn't find a factory/default setting)this produced all of the BBC channels but as soon as the machine is turned off or finishes recording and turns itself off automatically we lose all the BBC channels again? so we're rescanning the channels in everyday, but doing this is wiping out any programmes set to record. The Firmware is up to date on the DVD recorder and we've removed our booster. Any ideas? PLEASE HELP!! Many thanks

Would love some advice please; digital freeview tv and radio reception were fine for a few weeks after October 2011 switchover, but since Jan 2012 I've not been able to get any BBC tv or radio. Box is receiving from West, although postcode checkers suggest I should be picking up Oxford. Automatic retune makes no difference, not sure what I'm doing in the manual option!

Katy: It would appear that you are probably picking up West from Mendip instead of Central from Oxford.

Is your aerial facing Oxford?

The easiest way, if your set allows, is to change the "Region" or "Network" and that is in practice selecting the transmitter.

It may well be the case that your box has stored the Oxford channels in the 800s. Consequently, manual tuning to Oxford may not move its services to the proper positions (1 being BBC One etc). Depending on the design, the box may just do nothing because as far as it's concerned, then channels are already stored.

You really need to wipe the channels from the memory before attempting a manual retune. How you achieve this will depend on how the box works. For example, on some you may be able to run the automatic tuning scan through with the aerial unplugged to "blank" its memory. On others this will result in it telling you that nothing was found during the scan and that it has retained the channel line-up it had before!

What is the make and model of the box? I may be able to find the instructions for it online and make further suggestions.
