Is sky|one going on Freeview?

Is sky|one going on Freeview?

BSkyB does not hold the "free-to-air" rights for many of its programmes, so it is unlikely that Sky One will appear on Freeview.

It has been suggested that a "sky|one lite" might be created at some point, but no announcement has been made yet.

i REALLY wish sky one would come onto freeview because the new season of lost is coming on that and its just not fair to let the viewers get hooked on cannel four and then switch it over to a channel that a lot of people dont have. i just hope its also on channel four at a later date!

william: Sky have deliberatly bought lost to get people to buy into their subscription system, so they are not going to give the program away for free!

I love lost and i am sure that one of the advertisements last year said that it was going on channel 5. So i went and bought the sky freeview box but now i understand it is going on sky one which is not freeview!! I am completely annoyed at Sky. Annoyed enough to not be even considering signing up monthly in the near future just because i feel cheated!
I guess i will just have to wait and buy the DVDs or watch it on the lost website - either way better than watching it on tv - no ads!

Wake up people. The reason Sky bought paid more for Lost, 24 etc. is so that people would SUBSCRIBE to Sky. Do you rwally think they are then going to give their main channel away free? You have about as much chance of that as the government reducing Council Tax

I have just tried to get better than the poor reception we tend to get from Freeview,by having Sky installed. But close proximity to trees that are not ours means that the Sky engineer says he cannot get any signal from Sky.
We live about 6 miles from the Tacolneston transmitter but our reception is not always good on analogue or digital.
Finding an expert to help is impossible as the aerial people who come just seem to want to do anything easy that racks up a big bill.
I am prepared to pay but for real results, I cannot see how we will ever be able to get HDITV so buying a new LCD TV seems a waste of time and as a retired couple we are quite depressed at our lack of success at solving this insoluable problem .......... or do you know better?

Alan B Capleton: both satellite and terrestrial signals are leached from the air by trees, so unless you have a line-of-sight to the transmitter (either a satellite or on the ground) you won't get a signal. Unless you are surrounded by very high trees, you can probably sick either a dish or an aerial on a very long pole!

I am seriously thinking of scrapping my sky contract which I have had for 18 years.
I would appreciate info on how to best get freeview/freesat using my sky+ receiver, As I am not quite sure which is the best way to achieve this.
thanks..
Briantist
Sunday 30 March 2008 12:34PM
f garraway: Just stop paying Sky and you will have Freesat from Sky (fSfS) - see www.ukfree.tv link icon All free-to-watch channels | ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002 for a lsit of channels.

Hi F Garraway, Please remember that if you cancel you will lose all record / pause / playback functions on your sky + equipment. To get similar functions & hd channels if required, keep a eye out for the new freesat service from bbc/ itv which is due to launch soon. Mark Aberfan Aerials

Thanks for the info it does make sense to have the ability to tune to other channels
if using a dual LNB and PVR at a later date

Am i correct in thinking that the cheapest way to obtain British Eurosport is a subscrition to sky for £16-50. which is obviously not reasonable.
Thanks,
John Blythe.

Tacolneston digital is on low power at present. wait until analogue shutdown next
June when the power of digital will be greatly increased. Then If you get a usable signal thro`the trees, only get a higher gain aerial if necessary.Trees grow,so raising the aerial may not be the best idea!

what is the least expensive way to access British eurosport in order to see the motorbike racing?
Mark Aberfan Aerials
Tuesday 2 November 2010 4:52PM
Hi Stella,

As far as I can recall British eurosport is only availble via sky & virgin,
EURO / GERMAN eurosport is available on astra 1 for free, you just need a cheap £50 satellite kit from b&q but I dont know if that version shows the bikes or not.
I did read somewhere that the bbc are due to start a trial showing the moto gp in hd.

I would do some google searches in those two directions you may get lucky !

Well just how many more so-called "adult" channels are going to appear on Freeview. I thought space was at a premium here and while we await HD in Oxford so we can watch serious channels in 21st century picture quality, slots are filling up with adult channels. Disdain for popular pleasures is no democratic reason for banning them, agreed, but don't these channels belong elsewhere?
Briantist
Thursday 11 November 2010 6:30AM
Howie B: Most "adult" channels run in the overnight space when other channels are not broadcasting.

As you know already, Freeview HD requires the introduction of a full-time 40Mbps DVB-T2 multiplex.

So once again Murdoch is trying to monopolise the market. Virgin 1 has gone to
Sky leaving only BBC-ITV channels worth the trouble on Freeview. I will however forego my Star Trek, and perdition to him and his works. If I did not have to pay to watch adverts every 10 minutes I might have a different attitude but until my fee provides me with advert-slot-free TV you won't see me slotting any credits into Sky.
Briantist
Wednesday 2 February 2011 7:26PM
Julian Constantine: If Sky didn't have adverts, they would have to find more programmes to fit on their channels. That would never do.
