Can I get American tv via satellite in Europe?

Can I get American tv via satellite in Europe?

The orbital position of the direct-to-home satellites for North America means that they cannot be received with domestic satellite equipment.

I'm in Spain. I'd like to know how big and high should be the dish needed to watch Directv? having the receiver with an NTSC TV? would it be enough with and electricity convertor? and, how much money would i have to pay for all that? as i read in one of the post we don't have the hardware here in Europe, but is in the US.

Simon: Sorry, you can't get programmes from North America in Spain. The satellites are over the horizon. Also NTSC was phased out a few years ago.

if you are in europe and want US TV then Atbtv.eu is the way to go - no messing around with proxies and you can acess your TV on PC, connect to a TV or for me the best part is the add on mobile app that gives me ability to watch on my Iphone ( they also support blackberry, Android, windows mobile etc).

atbtv.eu link icon http://atbtv.eu has two directories and no files.
atbtv.eu link icon http://atbtv.eu /aspnet_client/system_web/2_0_50727 are just empty directories.

atbtv.eu link icon http://atbtv.eu /video and sub directories seam to be 99% French videos about fish.
I can't find any TV streams and the only web pages I found (3 pages) where in French with all the images missing.

Here's how you do it: Get High Speed internet where you live - then get a Slingbox and install it on a relatives home in the USA. Then with a simple laptop and any type flat screen tv (one with a VGA plug in) you can hook your laptop to your tv set in europe and use slingbox (in the states) to watch all your favorite channels) - How do I know?? I live in the USA, have a brother living in China - and another brother living in some 3rd world country fighting bad guys - they both can log on and watch anything they want anytime, and they love it.

Oh yeah, slingbox has an Iphone app ($30) and then you can watch all your American TV on your iPhone - as long as you have 3G, 4G, or Wi-Fi. I know, because I use it when we go out to dinner and bring the kids - they watch noggin on the phone and we all eat in peace...they are young! lol

Hi Jamest,

A slingbox & slingcatcher may be your best bet, Satellite reception is not possible.

Sue:
You can only get the US news channels free in the UK.

Bloomberg Television
CNBC Europe
CNN International

The ABC entertainment channel closed down a few years ago.

The following channels are encrypted on Sky and not free;

Fox News Channel
and a number of kids channels;

Nickelodeon, Disney, Disney XD

You can also get the UK version of BBC America.

Tuesday 26 July 2011 12:31PM
Mark A.: Actually, BBC America shows quite a few programmes from Channel 4 too. Today "Gordon Ramsay's F Word", "Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares". Also, "Dragons' Den" and "Top Gear" (BBC TWO), "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (CBS Action, I think), "Battlestar Galactica", "My Big Breasts and Me" (BBC three).

The schedules is at www.bbcamerica.com link icon BBC America - TV Schedule .

Hi people looking for some advice here, im an it technician so very pc literate, however im very ILLITERATE when it comes to satellite tv, im just getting into it,

couple of questions firstly concerin satellite dishes was looking at a 2.4meters one and was wondering if i could put it in my loft pointing at my skylight which is basically a window in my loft?

failin that im in central scotland and would like to recieve hotbird and astra frequencies, also speaking of hotbird and astra are there any other worthwhile frequencies to tap in with ENGLISH CHANNELS its the only launguage i speak, and what size of dish would you reccomend?

also is it better to have more than 1 lnb attatched or go for a motorised system?pros an cons please?

would really be grateful for some of your knowledge peeps as i would like to educate / train my friends and family up on this aswell

BIG thanks in advance

:)
Briantist

Alex Rutherford: You can't put satellite dishes in the loft, even using a "skylight".

You will have to look at the "footprint maps" for each of the satellites you want to use and work out the dish size from there.

A motorized dish will provide the most flexibility, as there are some English language serviecs on many satellites.

You can watch Hulu.com from outside USA which has a lot of american shows but is geoblocked so you need to download hotspot shield which is a free download.. it just changes your ip address to an american one enabling you to watch the website. You need to connect the program so the privacy is on to make it work..it should be showing green when working properly. You can also listen to pandora radio with it. Annoying thing it has ads on it but I can live with that. It works well for me.

The question which has been answered is

"Can I receive US tv satellites in Europe"

not the actual quesion of

"Can I get American tv via satellite in Europe?"

the answer to which is YES, but in a very limited manner.

BYU TV and MSNBC, and sometimes the Pacific feed for NBC The Today Show, can be received from Telstar 12 at 15.0° West.

www.lyngsat.com link icon Telstar 12 at 15.0°W - LyngSat

The Pentagon Channel can be received from Eurobird 9A at 9.0° East.

www.lyngsat.com link icon Eurobird 9A at 9.0°E - LyngSat

BET and PTN Europe, which as far as I am aware are timeshifted versions of the USA networks are available from Eurobird 1 at 28.5° East

www.lyngsat.com link icon Eurobird 1 at 28.5°E - LyngSat

It should also be mentioned that PBS UK launches its service from Eurobird 1 on
November 1st, 2011, although most expect it will be encrypted and only available to B$kyB subscribing customers.

Can I get american tv using a sling box especially TLC?
I'm in the uk and I don't have anyone in america.

Thank you

Susana - No you can't manage this unless you had a friend or relative with a slingbox in the US, or where you had a second home there with a receiver at that locus.

Were you on to be on holiday there, with a receiver back here, you would be able to access the receiver and be able to watch any TV recordings on it. Likewise with Sling boxes mobile application on an iphone ipad or any android capable device.

Actually, an installer in Tenerife is able to receive a few transponders from US satellites, but even though, you'll never get the full package.

I am from the UK, I have recently cut my SKY off as I was sick and tired of the constant repeats. The only good channels were the premiums such as the sports, the movies occasionally, SKY One and SKY Atlantic the rest was complete and utter garbage.

Since then I have been debating whether to go with a USA Slingbox rental.

I was just wondering whether it's well worth the money? I have found a private East Coast company that set them up. I ran a demo and the quality is perfect although a little unsmooth on the PC to TV HDMI but I guess that could be fixed with a Boxee Box?

I don't live in the USA nor have I ever seen their lineup but is it worth renting?

Please reply asap.

Even in the remote chance you did manage to pick up US satellites you'll hit another problem, 99% of the stuff is encrypted, its not like the sats in Europe that offer alot of free to air content, everything is encrypted, you might get C-SPAN or something but other than that.
