How can I get Channel 5 on Sky in Ireland?
You can watch Channel 5 (plus 5USA, 5* and the +1s) by manually adding the channel, as it is broadcast free-to-air.
Use the following settings:
Frequency: 10773 10964
Polarisation: Horizontal
Symbol rate (Mbaud): 22.0
FEC: 5/6

Hi I live in Slovenia we brought sky HD box with us. Connected dish, get free to air channels ok but no channel 5 and a bitty scrambled channel 4. I want to watch 5 USA. Thanks AlibobsMonday 7 January 2013 11:09AM
Tried to enter the above frequency but it won't let me enter 0 .jb38Monday 7 January 2013 6:16PM
Alibobs: Are you sure that you are actually using the "Add Channels" facility to enter the number into? because the settings indicated are correct.
However apart from that, its very doubtful if you would be able to pick these channels up anyway as they are on the latest 2F Satellite, this having a very restricted footprint (coverage area) as far as European countries are concerned, with its S/Easterly end sweeping around anti-clockwise from roughly between Nantes and Bordeaux and upwards again near Stuttgart. (both approx)
By the way, the only reason that you are receiving what you do is because these other programme channels are all on the original satellite, and so I would suggest that you make some local enquiries to find out if anyone else "might" be receiving the channels in question, and if they are then have a check on the size of dish they are using.

how do i add channelsbronaghMonday 7 January 2013 9:58PM
nevermind i found how to add channels and did it but everytime it says it's added when i go into services and other channels it's not there and keeps telling me to add channels.jb38Monday 7 January 2013 11:39PM
bronagh: After you entered the information given regarding frequency etc in the "add channels" menu and then followed this by pressing "search", when it came up with the channels found did you tick each one that you wanted to retain "before" pressing select? because if you failed to do this then they would be lost as soon as you returned to normal viewing.Jb 38
I have the same problm as Bronagh. It isnt saving the channels.
Thx Jb 38

Nicole Hennephof: What type of box are you using, is it a standard Sky box or a Sky+ version, and irrespective of what after you have found the additional channels are you using the "yellow" button on the remote control to tick next to each of the channels you want to store "before" pressing select? as all the channels will vanish again if you by-pass using the yellow button.Just done it again. After I find the new channels, I tick the ones I want to store using the yellow button. Then I press select then backup back out.then into services other channels and ....gone! To answer your question I have a sky+ box.
This's driving me crazy! :-)
Thanks for your help! Omg...I am mortified!
I never pressed page down !!!
Just did it nd they are all there!
I swear I am not blonde :)
Thank you so very much for your help and patience
Nicole
P.s. Bronagh...press page down! jb38Tuesday 8 January 2013 11:52PM
Nicole Hennephof: Thats not really surprising! because as I mentioned to another person making a similar enquiry regarding Ch5 etc insomuch that it should not really be necessary to carry out the procedure mentioned as the Sky box (any type) should have found them itself, or forced into doing so by selecting to carry out a retune (on later Sky+ boxes) or on older boxes by disconnecting it from the mains supply which will result in it losing all channels stored, then reconnecting again and allowing it to search for listings once it responds to the remote control.
Still, pleased to hear that all is in order now. FrancescSaturday 19 January 2013 7:50PM
I have lost Five channel family in Barcelona. I have 80 cm. dish. What is the problem? The dish, the LNB, or not footprint?
jb38Sunday 20 January 2013 12:00AM
Francesc: Its a footprint problem, as you are a bit South of the coverage extremities for the new Astra 2F satellite, it sweeping around from roughly just under Nantes and then upwards again near to Stuttgart, and although its obvious that the footprint published is not by any means exact its by far the best policy to make some local enquiries with regards to the minimum dish size required etc.
However, I take it that you have refreshed the boxes memory by disconnecting it from the mains supply and then reconnecting it again after having waited about 30 seconds or so between both actions?patWednesday 30 January 2013 3:42PM

Ive lost east midland ITV 1 and channel 5,in Menorca on my sky hd box ( subscription )and on a sky + box I use as free view, is there any way of finding these againMike DimmickMonday 4 February 2013 1:46PM
Nobby: How long ago did you lose them? Both services have moved to the newer Astra 2F satellite in the last couple of months. This satellite has a tighter footprint than Astra 1N - which was not originally intended to serve the UK channels, but was moved to this position temporarily to allow the original Astra 2D satellite to be decommissioned early - and so less signal is available in Menorca.
You may be able to recover reception with a larger dish, but you should be aware that the broadcasters are deliberately trying to prevent you receiving the channels. They would have to pay more for content if they were to broadcast Europe-wide than they do if they constrain their broadcasts to the British Isles only. They have to be seen to be making their best efforts to restrict coverage.
The BBC will be moving their services later in 2013, when Astra 2E launches. It is expected to have a similar footprint to Astra 2F.

Hi we are ok now with the channels, think we will eventually need to upgrade the dish but for now we need to get TV into our rooms. So please tell me what is the best receiver to buy for Slovenia useage . Looking at the Pace etc.. But will be guided by the experts ps we swooped our Sky HD for a Eddison and its miles better than the sky HD more reliable. The sky is relegated to our bedroom but still fails us.tom smithThursday 21 February 2013 7:15PM
