Can I use a Freeview box if there is no SCART connector on my T

Very few of the current Freeview boxes have both SCART and UHF outputs, but you will have to check.

This is done mainly to keep the costs down, but it saves any possible interference from the box itself with the incoming Freeview signals.

So with the a few boxes - often PVRs - you can watch (and record) Freeview channels via a UHF channel.

However, the best possible picture quality is obtained using the "RGB" output on the SCART connector, so if you switch the box to a new TV at some point, you should use the SCART then.

Briantist... i have a question for you. My folks have just bought a Toshiba HD ready tv (1 scart socket)... they have a Toshiba dvd player and a Bush vcr. I think you might guess where this is leading right away!

Ok so... how the hell do you tune the video to record the built in freeview seeing as the dvd player is occupying the scart socket? And btw... for some reason, nothing working from the vcr via scart either which is even more confusing :-/

Please advise... pensioners less 250 quid = migrane for me! :S lol

The links did not work!
Go onto Amazon UK and search for:-

Bandridge SCART Auto Switchbox - Video/audio switch - desktop.

also:-

Scart switch box - nickel plated - by skytronic.

Or just search the net for 'Scart automatic switch box'.

Good luck!

Mrs Thomas: could you include your postcode so the transmitters available at your location can be identified?

I currently have a analogue tv with no scart and I am unable to install an aerial on the roof and do not have a loft for lost installation ! What will happen when my area switches to digital ? will I be able to eceive digital by any means ??

Claire Nichols: What is your analogue reception like at present? In most locations you will get at least a signal for the PSB muxes which matches the coverage of the analogue service.Regarding the lack of a scart socket, it is possible to find freeview boxes with an in-built RF modulator. This will deliver the output of the freeview box to your tv via the aerial socket. Make sure you buy a new box though, second hand Ondigital boxes are useless after switchover as they do not support the 8k mode.If you have a VCR with a scart socket you can use the modulator in the VCR to "transmit" the freeview channels on a scart only box to the tv. If you pop your postcode into the Digital UK postcode checker, tick the trade box, you will see which transmitters are expected to serve your location.Remember though the prediction assumes the use of a roof mounted aerial.

Claire Nicholls: Your options are ... limited.

You may be able to cable (from Virgin Media) or Freesat - but not having a SCART input to your set limits your options.

For the cost of buying a "modulator" you can almost get a new LCD television set.

Please post a question, answer or commentIf you have Freeview reception problems before posting a question your must first do this Freeview reset procedure then see: Freeview reception has changed, Single frequency interference, and Freeview intermittent interference.

If you have no satellite signal, see Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' or 'Technical fault'

If you have other problems, please provide a full (not partial) postcode (or preferably enter it in box at the top right) and indicate where if aerial is on the roof, in the loft or elsewhere.
