My TV has a Freeview sticker on the front. If I install a freesat dish will I also need a freesat set top box or can I plug the cable from the dish direct into the TV?

marez: Unless the TV works with Freesat, then you will need a Freesat set-top box.

If you post the make and model number of your set, we can have a look at the specifications and tell you whether it will work with Freesat. Most don't and are only designed to receive terrestrial signals without need for a separate box.

Hi I have a Samsung EU40D5500 LED Smart TV, the info says it will receive Freesat HD, I presume I need to get a Freesat HD Box? If I want to watch Eurosport is there a freesat HD top up box that you can recommend.
Thanks Steve

Steve Beane: I'm guessing you mean the www.samsung.com link icon . - UA40D5500RR - LED TV - television | SAMSUNG ?

If so, it doesn't have Freesat built in, so yes, you will need a Freesat HD or Freesat+HD box to watch Freesat.

However, to watch Eurosport UK on satellite in the UK you will have to subscribe to Sky HD.

I have an analogue satellite dish and receive International Eurosport free and have done for many years. All the adverts are in German but the sports (motorsports) I mainly watch always have the commentary in English. I have heard that Int Eurosport is going digital on 30 April 2012. Help! What can I do to still receive it free.

I have recently installed a new HD receiver and LNB on my old Asra 1 19deg.E dish. Eurosport international is now scrambled. Do you know how I go about viewing it and what the charges would be?

D. Hayward: OK. Looking at www.lyngsat.com link icon Astra 1H/1KR/1L/1M/2C at 19.2°E - LyngSat only Eurosport Germany 12226 H 27.5 3/4 is FTA, as Eurosport on 12344 H has encryption, as you say.

Is it possible to get international Eurosport in English, or must I buy Sky? I have a digital satellite box and have watched for years but reception now has German commentary.

I used to be able to receive Eurosport International free on an analogue receiver in order to watch Cycling eg Tour de France etc. This analogue signal has now been turned off. Previously when the cycle racing transmissions started the broadcast switched from German into English albeit with a smattering of German adverts.
I have recently purchased a Free to Air digital receiver which is algned to 19.2 (ie the same satellite, which I believe is Astra 1) This is picking up very well Eurosport but it appears that it is entirely in German. Whilst it may enhance my learning of the Geraman language I would much prefer to receive the cycling in English.
Has anybody any advice or suggestions??

Stuart R, I think your only ways to get Eurosport in English legally are to buy Sky, to watch online (£3/month to Eurosport, plus whatever your internet service charges and then it only works on the soon-to-die-out Microsoft Silverlight) or to run two receivers (the picture from 19.2E and the unencrypted English audio from 13E).

This situation sucks but hey, German is a fine language and these days lots of the adverts have a smattering of English...

I have a Sky HD box with Sky full HD package in my living room. I have a Pioneer PDP 435PE TV and a Manhattan Plaza DS 100 Freesat box in my bedroom. Is there any way I can place a dish on my existing sky aerial without compromising my sky subscription or creating any interference? Also what do I need to do to activate my freesat, which works as I have tested it on the TV but I am as yet unable to get a picture due to not having connected it to my aerial? How can I do this without having to pay an aerial engineer £150-£250. Furthermore am I able to get my full Sky package in my living room, without having to pay Sky £100+ a month?

Antonio: Your existing Sky dish will have a quad LNB on the end of the dish arm. Two of the output ports will be connected by satellite cable, which will be routed to connect with your SKY receiver, leaving the other two ports unused. This means that either two single tuner or one additional twin tuner receivers can be supported. It should not cost a great deal to have an installer (other than SKY) to connect up a cable feed to your Manahattan. This would still leave you a port free should you wish to connect another receiver. I'm afraid your not going to be a winner with SKY on your final query.

Your article says at the beginning "you cannot subscribe to the digital packages from the UK"

It is against EU law to discriminate between EU citizens in this way, ( see recent case won by landlady of pub) so you certainly have a legal right to subscribe to other EU country offerings from the UK if you are a private individual.

Nevertheless, it would be helpful if one could get the English commentary via freesat or digital radio, or even over the web. I do speak German, but the commentary is generally not as good.

Hi, is there any chance or likelihood of any dedicated sports channels joining freesat in the near future. I understand that top of the range sports like Sky Sports and the soon to be BT sport channels won't ever be available on Free To Air TV. However, is there a possibility of other less coveted sporting channels such as ESPN classic, Eurosport 2 or motors tv coming to freesat? Any information would be appreciated, thank you.

With a bit of research much great English commentated sport can be seen on the free "German" Eurosport channel. This year I saw every F1 race live, if necessary using German Eurosport or RTL (Sound Off) and Radio 5 live for the English Commentary. Similarly the US Tennis Open using the very comprehensive English commentary stream from the US open website. Plus several world title boxing matches again using Radio 5 live.
I wish I could crack FIS skiing though. Last Year sometimes Asia-Plate TV had English commentary on the web to go with the Eurosport German pictures- anyone know any other English commentary feeds for the skiing as it all starts soon ?

I recently bought a Humax freesat box and it worked great off my old sky dish BUT I wanted CNN but this seems to be receiving no signal.Does the dish need a small realingnment or perhaps a new LNB. If so can I fix it as a complete novice?

Daniel, to get the free German Eurosport I was talking about you need a dish aligned to Astra 1 at location 19.6E.

Daniel, to answer your other point, Freesat uses Astra sats located at 28.2E so its not the system I was talking about. Unless you have a dual LNB you may be out of luck.

Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 are available Free in English on Hotbird 13E.
Have not switched the the analogue box on for 12 months so only just discovered that all channels have now closed.
Did a quick search. I assume the sat is Hotbird. Whatever it is at 13E. Happy viewing!!!

Hi i have a samsung freesat tv hooked up to a SKY dish, i have noticed lots of references to numbers such as 13E,28E etc. I take it these numbers relate to the compass, so 13E would be 13 degrees East? Is this correct as i am interested in trying to get Eurosport?
Cheers

nick h: Its not so much 28.2 or 13 degrees East, but 28.2 or 13 degrees "to" the East South, in other words you point the dish towards South and then swing it to the left, this if viewed from the rear of the dish looking in the direction that the dish is facing.

Thursday 15 November 2012 3:20PM
jb38, Nick H: It means that the satellite is in geostationary orbit above the point on the earth at 0°N latitude, 28.2°E longitude - geostationary orbits are always directly above the equator.

The angles needed to set up your dish depend on your location. Try www.uksatellitehelp.co.uk link icon UKSatelliteHelp.co.uk - Satellite Dish Alignment / Setup Calculator 2.0 to calculate the settings required.

Very helpful information in this post.

For newbies to multi satellite dish system operation I would suggest getting a copy of "What Satellite" magazine or similar for lots of useful information. Once the dish is aligned the control system ( often but not always built in to the decoder ) will find all the satellites for you.

Happy hunting.

You can get free Eurosport in English but you have to work for it.

As pointed out, you can get Eurosport Germany (FTA @ 19.2 degrees) but only in German. However, you can also get Eurosport Poland( @ 13 degrees). This is encrypted for video but not audio and includes an English audio feed.

You therefore need two LNBs and two feeds supplying two set-top boxes. One for video and one for audio. If your TV allows you can feed audio/video separately into it, or you can feed the audio through a sound system.

If you already have a dish you can fit a 6 degree dual monoblock LNB (£26 on Ebay) and use two cheap chinese digital receivers (£13 each on Ebay).

Most Smartphones/iPhones have satfinder apps to help you align the dish.

I got a used LNB for £15 and the two STBs for £26. Even cheaper is if you have a couple of old dishes you can fix up individually.

It was worth it for me as my web is too slow for EurosportPlayer and I get lovely Eurosport pictures on my plasma for an outlay of under £50.

Congratulations to Buzz for providing the best answer so far in this post. Multisat users will already have most of the bits needed in their setup, but as they say "knowledge is priceless".

Just to clarify, we are talking about International Eurosport here ( analogue or digital ), and a digital only sound signal.

Well done Buzz, and many thanks for taking the trouble to post your answer.

My tv aerial is on roof .tv channels are lost all the time with bad weather since Xmas .never had any problems before can you help

Please post a question, answer or commentIf you have Freeview reception problems before posting a question your must first do this Freeview reset procedure then see: Freeview reception has changed, Single frequency interference, and Freeview intermittent interference.

If you have no satellite signal, see Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' or 'Technical fault'

If you have other problems, please provide a full (not partial) postcode (or preferably enter it in box at the top right) and indicate where if aerial is on the roof, in the loft or elsewhere.
