What has happened to TCM?

What has happened to TCM?

They say that TCM has encrypted to bring it "in line with Turner's other entertainment channels". By this they mean their cartoon channels, Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Toonami.

They claim this will enable them to "deliver effective marketing".

And after over ten years being free-to-air, they say they now need "better control of our signal".

(details from 1997 - when it was called TNT).

Cathal: No, there is no capacity on Freeview for additional channels. They are, however, on Freesat.

My wife and I are both in our 80's and partially deaf. We needsub-titles where available, but have yet to find a system ( free ) that records a program with sub-titles whilst we watch another. ( So many programs start at 9.00 pm.)
Will the new Freesat system give us this?Thank you for your service.

Denis Treadgold: All digital TV recorders (Freeview+, Freesat+, Sky+) record the subtitles as part of the data they record, so any show can be recalled with, or without, subtitles.

If I simply put a freeview card into the Sky slot in my Sky box, will the Sky box automatically find the freeview channels, please?
I want to change to Freeview 'cause I'm tired of paying Sky's exhorbitant charges. (Just wish I could do the same with the gas and electric!!!)

Hi Alferfi,

TVE int was taken off of the sky program guide but it can still be accessed by using the ADD CHANNELS function on the sky box, you will need the tuning info for the channel from a site such lyngsat.

Alferfi: 11469MHz Horizontal, 27500 and 2/3, see Sky UK on Astra 2A/2B/2D & Eurobird 1 at 28.2°E - LyngSat - but it is listed with Videoguard.

TVE int is still listed in Sky's program guide as TVEi.
It's not a free channel, so you may need to pay Sky an extra £1.00 per month to decrypt it if it's not in one of your packages.

Why has the new 'RETUNE' instruction resulted in a complete disappearance of Channel 5 - instead of an improved reception as promised for that channel? I can access Ch 5 now at no.800 but it is very poorly
transmitted and has reduced my already imperfect reception.
Previously only Ch1 Ch2 CH5 transmissions came through clearly and Ch s 3&4 were bad. Now Ch s 3,4 and 5 are bad.
I can switch to analogue but Ch 2 is absolutely blurred on analogue and unwatchable.
I have an amplified aerial.
What an appalling service! Can you help?

Don Curtis: You need to do the retune correctly.

You MUST do a "first time installation" or "reset to defaults", you have simply run the "add channels" option.

If you can't find the option, follow this procedure - www.ukfree.tv link icon My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong | ukfree.tv - independent digital TV + switchover advice, since 2002

I bought a sky box on ebay to use to get the free channels thru my freesat dish, if i buy a sky viewing card on ebay can i get some of the channels that are currently disabled(insert your viewing card message)?
Briantist
Monday 8 November 2010 6:49AM
Gill: Never buy a card from eBay.

You can get a card direct from Sky - www.sky.com link icon FREESAT from Sky - Call now to order - for £25.

This will give you these additional channels:

1) Sky3

2) Fiver

3) FiveUSA

That's it.

Thanks Brian, one other question please.
I have a freeview pc card which picks up film4 plus one, via my digital freeview aerial, yet I cannot recieve this channel on my LG lcd telly with built in freeview or any of my freeview boxes. should I be able to pick this film 4 plus one, channel up on freeview equipment or could this just be an extra channel that the computer card is picking up?

thanks in advance Nigel.

Hi briantist
is there not a free allday
horseracing channel considering the number we now have i would have thought one could have been laid aside for this purpose
on Freeview preferred or whatever

regards john t Jones
or is it the old adage money talks ?
Briantist
Thursday 29 September 2011 8:57PM
JOHN T JONES: Freeview channels are allocated to the highest bidder, no channels are reserved, aside for those for the BBC (one multiplex) and the Channel 3, 4 and 5 licence holder.

I currently have Sky+ in my sitting room and an ordinary Sky box in my kitchen on a multiroom contract. I would like to stop paying Sky and move to Freesat. What do I have to do/buy to keep being able to watch tv in my kitchen?
Briantist
Wednesday 7 December 2011 9:58AM
Alison Rogers: You don't need to do anything at all, just keep using the box and it will switch to the free channels.

Briantist
Sunday 20 May 2012 3:26PM
leslierainer: New Freesat channels appear in the programme guide automatically, you don't need to do anything.

If you think you are missing a channel, power off the box and power it back on again.

does anyone know what sky is appealing about freeview channels 101 to 199 in the new epg supposed to be upgraded from 19-09-12? are they just being awkward ? will the appeal fail anyway and they are just being 'bloody-minded'?
