What can I do when my Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' or 'Technical fault'?

What can I do when my Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' or 'Technica

How to Reset a Sky Digibox when 'No Signal' appears.

Reset method 1 - Delete and Rescan

  1. Turn the power off at the mains socket. Either do this by pulling the plug from the socket, or using a power switch if there is one.

  2. Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, clean the gold connector on the reverse of the card. Do not use any cleaning products.

  3. Check cables and connectors are in good order.
  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. With the card still out of the machine, plug the Digibox back into the mains.
  6. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  7. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  8. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  9. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Reset Method 2 - Reset the LNB

If the above method does not work, the LNB may have a fault.
  1. Press the [SERVICES] button and then press [4] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

On Sky HD, press the [SERVICES] button and then press [0] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

Press the buttons in the sequence above exactly - do not atttempt to use [UP] or [DOWN]. Note that when you press the second 0 and 1 nothing happens on the screen until you press the final [SELECT]. This is a "hidden menu".

  2. Then press [1] to go to the RF output menu.
  3. Press [DOWN] three times to highlight the line 22Khz Command and then press [RIGHT] to change the value to [OFF].
  4. Press [DOWN] and [SELECT] to select Save New Settings.
  5. Press [SKY].
  6. Again press [SERVICES], [4], [0], [1], [SELECT]; then [1] again for the LNB Menu. (SERVICES 0 0 1 SELECT for Sky HD).
  7. Now press the [RED] button (reset all settings), then [DOWN] until you can select Save New Settings again.
  8. Press [SKY].

Reset Method 3 - Upgrade the system software

If there are still problems:

  1. Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the viewing card.
  2. Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox - NOT ON THE REMOTE - turn the mains power on.
  3. Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message – this will be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this can appear as a half screen.

  4. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. The box will restart when the process is complete.
  5. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  6. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  7. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  8. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

daft question but you have got the sky plus box connected to a sky dish?

if you have there are several things that might cause this

A) a faulty sky plus box

B) dish is not alined correctly

c) the cables going into the sky box are shorted out

as long as its not your dish at fault you can get a standard definition FREESAT box from argos for £30 that would take place of your sky box

Neil - sat dish might need re aligning

haven't a clue what the high pitch sound was unless it was the power supply dying

Mark - I think you have exhausted your DIY capabilities im afraid - without the correct equipment lining a dish up can be done but is not the easiest thing todo - will give you an example
a friend of mine owns a plot of land in france and has tried for over a year in varying weather and sheer frustration moving the dish millimetres at a time with no success

I turn up for a holiday with my £300 Horizon hdsm meter and have it lined up within 2 mins

Bite the bullet and get a local professional in to line the dish up for you -- one thing I will ask is --- Is there anything in the way - has a tree grown that little bit more and is now blocking the signal ?

Expect to pay a local rigger £45- £65 to line a dish up that is on a standard wall - expect to pay more if the dish is on a roof/chimney

ben: This usually means the dish is aligned to a satellite, just not the right one.
kb Aerials Sheffield
Friday 30 September 2011 5:32PM
Ben there are umpteen satellites in whats called the Clarke Belt
your satellite dish can point to any one of these satellites some are stronger than others in britain - but your sky dish can pick up a signal from popular satellites like SKY 28.2 ° East or 19.2° east - the angle of the dish isn't far so if you have tried to re align your dish using the signal strength meter it is not un common to line up on the wrong satellite !

TRy moving the dishto the left a bit till the signal strength goes up again - hopefully you will get the lock message next time

or - get someone out to line it up for you

hi can anyone help with my problem, i have brought my sky hd box to spain murcia region, and simply swapped it for my near perfect working sky+ box, re set it to the same as the sky+ 12207 etc search for channels and after a while no signal found appears. So refit the sky+ box and still working well and shows a good signal only thing that does not work is information when in sky tv guide which has never worked, I have the original card in each box, but no longer pay any subscription, just get lots of free channels but not chan 4 or chan 5 tho do get 4+1 ,does anyone have any suggestions to get the hd box to work,I fitted all up myself as i have done many times, and did ask at a local tv shop if hd box worked here and was told of course, many thanks dave

Evad: Try rebooting the SkyHD box. Switch off the power, and leave it for a few seconds. Then press and hold the "back up" botton on the box, and keep holding this down while you switch the mains power to the box on. Keep holding down the "back up" button until all four LEDs light on the front of the box (can take 15 seconds or so). At this stage, you can release the "back up" button - you should see a message on the screen saying Software Update - do not switch off - may take up to 10 minutes. Leave the box to complete this reboot. After it has finished (and a short delay) the box will typically show a "Sky HD please wait...." message on the screen. Leave it alone whilst this is on. After it has disappeared, the box will go into standby - and then you should be able to power it up.
Occasionally this has to be done a couple of times.

I live in Scotland and I have one paid Sky subscription and one freesat. No problem with my main digibox but until a few months ago I could get BBC 1 Scotland and BBC News Channel on my second gigibox. Now I can get virtually every other BBC Regional channel except Scotland and cannot get BBC News. I get 'no satellite signal' . I have reset the digibox softwre still no good.

I have tried all you suggested because I get this message on my screen, 'NO SATELLITE SIGNAL IS BEING RECEIVED.'
I know the dish is not properly aligned or not aligned at all, how can I go about this? Please help.

Mark: Just to clarify, is it the Freesat box that you cannot get the news for BBC Scotland on?

I assume you have entered the post code again after you reset the box, the post code either being yours or another associated with the area you want the news for, this picked from a telephone book of the area.

Abbey Show: I would suggest that you make a few enquiries to anyone associated with installations and ask what they would charge to align your dish.

This said, taking it that you know that is all thats wrong!

For the last couple of days we haven't been able to get NHK World on channel 507. It says "There is a technical fault with this channel. Please try later"

I have just tried Reset method 1 but the problem is still occurring.

Is anyone else having problems with this channel?

Laura, I too am having problems getting the NHK World channel 507 on Sky (standard sky box) for the last 24 hours.

I just looked at the NHK World website and it says that they [NHK] have discontinued their standard definition service for the UK & Ireland from the end of 30th September 2011 and now they only show the channel in HD.

Thank you to Jim F my Sky hd box is now working perfectly in Spain, it still has the same fault as the sky+ box had that in tv guide no information is shown but when the i button is pressed whilst watching a channel it works.
I have just read that sky + record pause and play etc will not work without a subscription but can confirm that mine does all of those functions, I simply have to insert my old sky+ viewing card and it works , only the new sky card stops these functions from working, this may be old news to some on here but may be of some use to someone else in the future,
many thanks to this site which has sorted my problem out , Dave

I have followed advice following a no signal message on sky free sat and did a system update. this brought back the channels, but only some of them and the others only stay on for 5min max then go back to no signal message (message 29) on sky box. does this mean box broken? or something else?

George - possibly your sky box power supply is over heating stick a desktop fan blowing into it to cool it down - if this works then look at having your psu replaced

I wonder if you could help me.I have Thompson HD sky box but no HD subscription. The question I have is, is it possible to change the anytime parameters so that I can receive the majority in the non-HD format rather than as minority. Most of the transfered programmes come through are in the HD format and having no HD subscription, it won't allow me to access them. Is this something that can be done by myself or is it,as I suspect, something that has to be done by the Sky call center.

Phil I would answer if I knew

BUT -- Why are you asking this question in the forum that is called

Free to watch on satellite - Most popular questions
What can I do when my Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' or 'Technical fault'?

Satellite being the topic of conversation in this thread - you would be better off searching for discussions (if any are available) regarding your transmitter

Phill: Saorview launched at the end of last year.

A Freeview HD receiver should implement MPEG-4 AVC on DVB-T, which is required to receive RTÉ 2 when it's broadcasting in HD, even though at present the UK only uses MPEG-4 AVC on a DVB-T2 multiplex.

For interactive text, the Irish standard permits either MHEG-5 as used in the UK, or the legacy teletext system. Freeview HD equipment is not required to implement legacy teletext.

You can check to see whether the address you'll be using the equipment at is covered by going to www.saorview.ie link icon Coverage Map | SAORVIEW

Hi!
The previous owner of our flat had sky. The dish is still there but as he did not use a scheme the freeholders offered to get a new, digital ready, areal connection into the flat. So: I have a sky dish outside of the balcony, an old tv and now I am wondering whether I can buy a freesat box and get to watch some tv. Any help will be much appreciated!
Thanks!

Thomas: There is no difference between a Sky box dish and a Freesat one, and so long as the dish hasn't been moved out of alignment then there should be no problems.

You could maybe even purchase a twin tuner Freesat PVR, and if necessary just change the LNB on the dish arm over to a quad version to enable the recording of two separate channels at the same time.

Quad blocks being under £10.00 from numerous e-bay outlets, have a look at the LNB though as it may already have a quad block fitted, that is if the previous owner used Sky+.

hi iam hoping you can help iam getting no satellite signal being received noticed in signal test that lock indicator is not locked would you know how to lock this i have a thomson sky box model no:122.051
jb38
Sunday 16 October 2011 6:32PM
neil: The lock indicator will be showing that if no satellite signal is being received, as it needs one to lock onto. Have you just coupled this up? or was already working OK and this has just happened?

Whatever the answer, you should carry out a re-set by removing the mains plug, waiting about 15 secs or so, then re-connect it and let the box go through its usual start up procedure.
KB Aerials Sheffield
Sunday 16 October 2011 8:13PM Sheffield
Thomas - check if the aerial installers who cabled the rest of the block left a coil of cable out side your flat

What I normally do when I do a communal block of flats is to coil the cable up outside any flats where the occupant refuses entry or what is normally the case - totally ignores every effort that I try to communicate

In these circumstances I love it when I have been told by the management agency to clear the block of any sky dishes (as we install a communal one dish serves all system) and turn off the old aerial system - usually find the ignorant little sh1t who has ignored you is now totally desperate to talk to me ! (they can wait a few days/weeks as far as im concerned any how)

I have two tv sets in my appartment. One is connected to the roof top aerial which is used by everyone in the block and it works fine.
The other set is connected to an indoor aerial and BBC works fairly well but ITV dose not.
A monitor on the set says the signal is strong but has zero quality. Several of my neighbors have the same problem. Any advice would be very welcome. Thank you.

Kenneth Lea: Indoor aerials are not suitable for reliable Freeview reception.

The best thing to do is to connect your set to the working rooftop aerial.
