I have now lost all signal can you tell me what the problem might be?
The problem could be one of:
- the aerial has been moved or damaged;
- the cables or connectors that connect the digibox to the aerial are damaged;
- the digibox has broken.
If you have a "spare" digibox you use this to test the aerial connection. Can you still watch analogue TV OK?

Thanks KMJ for your prompt reply!
But since I think I am not as technical to understand your reply, I shall get back here when I firgure out / digest what you said. Thanks again!Alex JohnstonThursday 1 September 2011 2:24PM
Bo'ness Claudia: Hi, My aerial is on a mast with amplifier, has worked perfectly till recently. The signal strength averages 80% but the quality bounces abot like made and tv shuts off, Black screen. I get a reasonable picture with a cheap digi box, picture breaks up. But when using my Digital recorder with twin tuner I get a No or Bad signal and is unwatchable. I have had an engineer from Aerial Solutions But couldn't help. Grangemouth Road is a problem for any kind of signal.
ClaudiaFriday 2 September 2011 8:23PM
KMJ: I have checked the aerial cable and its fine, its brand new anyway. Hole in the wall doesnt seem to have any problem visualising by the eyes. I have also checked with a few neighbours, they have no problems. Unfortunately, thats the only TV at home and I have no other freeview box to test with too :(
So it comes down to what you suggested "distribution amplifier has lost power, a circuit breaker might have tripped, or someone has turned off the power to go on holiday without realising that it supplies the TV aerial distribution amp" - how can i check these things?ClaudiaFriday 2 September 2011 8:26PM
Alex: Thanks for your sharing. I have had similar situation before my TV complated lost all signals. Even though it indicates that i have 72% signal strength, the pictures were still bumpy and it would also sometimes freeze at the spot with loads of pixelated noises. Using a signal booster doesnt seem to improve either...
What is Grangemouth Road btw?C BrewerSunday 4 September 2011 10:26PM
Bromley I live in the BR2 9QB postcode and I believe I use the Crystal Palace Transmitter.
Up to about July 2011, I had no trouble with my freeview reception, HD was great.
Now I seem to have intermittant interference on all channels but worse on HD.
My aerial is in the loft and has a booster on it so it can serve 4 TVs in the house. The arial is close to the wall with next door and the booster is on the other side of the loft.
I can't pinpoint when the problem is worse.
I am getting fed up with never knowing when I can watch TV on freeview.
If you have any advice, I would be gratefulJim FWednesday 7 September 2011 6:05PM
C Brewer: Could be a dodgy booster (does happen), but could also be interference caused by having e.g. a WiFi Modem or a DECT phone base close to the TV set.
Are any of your neighbours operating a taxi business?TracyWednesday 14 September 2011 8:15AM
My TV needed a rescan today and I did it, but said 'yes' to scan for analogue channels and now my TV says it has no signal.
How do I get the signal back? I have a blue screen and a count down box in the middle.
I have unplugged the TV and aerial but nothing changed.

I have a 5 year-old Phillips Freeview box which worked perfectly till yesterday. The screen simply shows a blue 'No Signal' sign which flashes every few minutes. When I remove the links to the box to watch my five TesRes channels I get some reception but it is basically unwatchable.
Can anyone help? denSaturday 17 September 2011 9:29PM

I have built in freeview tv, i bought a outside arial wich i put up the loft. Its a digital arial woth a digi booster. Its been working fine till lastnight . I have retuned it and not picking anything up. HelpRob BrooksSunday 27 November 2011 4:48PM
It was very windy last night and it would seem that my free view signal suffered. I have a freeview digital aerial with a splitter to 5 TV's on the mast head and a powered booster indoors. I switched the booster off and back on and everythinbg is working again , but I was wondering what causes this should it happen again, or if there is something I need to check. How do I find out if the problems are related to a wider problem i.e at the transmitter which in my case is EMley Moor in Yorkshire.AlisonSaturday 17 December 2011 5:15PM
Stanmore My aerial is roof mounted & 7 years old.
10 days ago, I had all freeview channels. In the last 10 days every day I have received different channels. As of last night/today - I HAVE NO channels.
Everything is still happily connected & I have rebooted all receivers & TV sets.
What has happened to the signal?
When will it be fixed?
The digital map on this site shows my postcode as grey - meaning NO SIGNAL. Why has this happened - HOW CAN IT BE FIXED?
Many ThanksJenMonday 19 December 2011 8:12PM
Sutton Hello, I'm not sure if anyone can help but some advice would be really appreciated.
I have a LG TV with inbuilt Digital Freeview. It has no analogue option to test.
I have a shared externtal aerial. It was replaced in July this year. My neighbours don't seem to have any problems.
In September I lost my Freeview channels. In October, I lost ITV channels. In late Nov I lost all BBC's. I've checked and changed the cable, I've plugged my TV into a Digital Box and tried a friends TV. I've had the aerial fitting in my flat looked at. Nothing is faulty but I have no picture. Is it likely to be the new aerial? Many thanks, JenJen: It could be the cable that connects your aerial point to the TV, or it could be the tuner in the TV.
If it's the "fly lead", just replace it.
If it's the tuner then you could confirm this by borrowing a Freeview box and seeing if that works. JonathanMonday 26 December 2011 8:28PM
Gravesend I am moving off cable tv and would like to use freeview. I'm not picking up any freeview channels, and the signal strength is showing as 30%. I am using an external aerial fixed on the roof. Should I get a new aerial fitted or should I go for freesat?Jonathan: The answer could be neither as you may well be picking up the low power pre-switchover signal.
If you have a 30% signal strength but 100% quality, then there is no issue and the boost in transmission power when switchover occurs will give you more of a margin (signal strength above which your receiver starts to work).
Which transmitter is your aerial directed at? If you don't know, then what direction is it pointing in and is it horizontal or vertical?
If it's the Gravesend relay (208 degrees, aerial vertical) then you will only get the main Public Sector Broadcaster (PSB) multiplexes. Also if this is the case then anything digital you are picking up now is not coming from Gravesend, so you would probably be best advised to have another aerial fitted which is directed at one of the main transmitting stations (probably Crystal Palace). Crawley RH11 8UJ. No signal at my address 34 Petworth court. Can you tell me what is the problem and when it is going to be fixed.Neil StanleySunday 25 March 2012 11:28PM
Billericay Hi,
Every evening about 20:00 I lose Freeview channels 3,4,5,6,13, plus others.
This occurs on 4 different TV's. Two TV's have set top boxes, One TV has built in Freeview and the other TV has a Philips Freeview digital recorder connected.
After an hour or so service returns. BBC channels are never affected.
Is anybody else affected like this? Area is Essex - CM11 1BU.
Thanks.Dave ShawTuesday 27 March 2012 10:51PM
I am also getting the same problem as Neil. I am in ME12 1TF (sheppey) and my problem is at around 20:00 aswell. Does anyone know why this is? I can still receive BBC channels fine.Paul Sunday 1 April 2012 6:14PM
Brentwood Hi - seems that CM15 (Brentwood Essex) has lost most of the freeview channels this weekend - does anyone have any information on this or are experiencing the same problem?markybSunday 15 April 2012 1:22PM
Haywards Heath Hi There,
I hope someone may be able to help me. I have trawled through all the various other posts on this fine website but I can't find a solution. I have:
Samsung LCD TV with built in Freeview tuner
Panasonic DMR-BWT700 Blu-Ray with built in Freeview twin tuner
Aerial on the roof
Heathfield (West Sussex) transmitter - not yet switched over
Up until January of this year, I had the aerial coming straight in from the wall socket into my Samsung TV and was able to pick up all Freeview channels. I then purchased the Panasonic so I would be able to record Freeview channels. I installed by connecting the RF cable from the wall socket into the Panasonic and then out the Panasonic into the TV. I scanned for channels and was successful in picking them all up. Occassionally I would lose a couple for a short period of time but they would always come back.
About 6 weeks ago (from doing nothing different) I lost most of the channels. I retuned and was only able to pick up the multiplex 2 channels (ITV, C4, C5 etc). I tried reverting to factory setting before retuning but this had no effect. I have tried retuing every few days but am not able to pick up any more channels.
The crazy thing is, I still have the cables going from the wall to the TV via the Panasonic and am able to pick up all the channels still on the TV, however if I switch the Panasonic on, it then affects the TV reception, causes it to freeze.
Is this a known problem of the Panasonic or could this be connected with the upcoming switchover? I had put it down to Inversion when it first happened but that high pressure of early March has well and truly gone now!
Hopefully, that has covered everything but if you need more info, please let me know. Any help would be most appreciated by this frustrated viewer!
Many Thanks,
MarkmarkybSunday 15 April 2012 2:25PM
Haywards Heath OK, so within an hour of posting my problem on here, I think I have found a solution via someone's comments on a review of the product on Amazon! It seems that if the aerial cable is near or touching the HDMI cable, this alone can cause loss of channels. I've rearranged my cables, retuned and hey presto, I now have a full compliment of channels.markyb: Cables can interfere with one another when in close proximity. The lower the level of signal the greater chance that any interference will have a negative impact on reception.
So come switchover when the signal levels from Heathfield are higher, you may find that such interference does not result in loss or poor TV reception.
I have a USB dongle TV tuner and I know that if the RF aerial cable is put next to the USB lead then it causes problems with reception. that is, the signal carried along the USB lead interferes with that in the RF lead. C BrewerMonday 18 June 2012 4:56PM
My samsung LED tvs seem to have lost the freeview signals and now my LCD Samsung seems to now be waning in quality. My Bush LED freeview seems to be OK - that tv is only a 20", the samsungs are 32" and 1 at 42". They are all on the same aerial with a booster - in the loft. Surely I am not that unlucky that all my samsungs built in freeviews have broken. Any ideas or heard of samsung tv problems??FelixMonday 2 July 2012 7:33AM
Haywards Heath I'm down to about 30 channels after the latest Freeview retune. Everything was fine before and now I'm missing channels including Fimlm and ITV4, most commercial radio stations missing as well.JamesTuesday 24 July 2012 1:13PM
I have various digital appliances but recently, last two days, I seem to be have trouble with freeview. If I plug in a cheap freeview box the piture is fine and receiving all channels. I f I unplug it then I lose all signals from the other tv's in the house - some integrated with freeview others with a box i.e. humax or a dvd recorder LG. Any ideas? As long as I leave this small cheap freeview box plugged in and on all systems work fine. jb38Tuesday 24 July 2012 4:08PM
James: Yes, but does the aerial feed to these other devices being used loop through the cheap Freeview box? whereby when you unplug the box you also have to link the in / out RF conectors together.
If this doesnt apply then where is the coax lead from your aerial fed into?
jamesThursday 26 July 2012 1:54PM
Stafford jb38: four way split on aerial into four different rooms. tried the said box on two of the four leads and samething happens. no loops in the house either. Any ideas gratefully appreciated. must be something simple?!!!jb38Thursday 26 July 2012 5:47PM
james: The only possibility that I can think of which could cause that is "if" you are receiving an excessively high level of signal from Sutton Coldfield that is blocking reception, as the action of plugging in the Freeview box will take the edge of the signal to the other devices.
You haven't mentioned what type of four way splitter you are using? and whether its of the powered variety or not? but if it is then try connecting one of the other TV's straight onto the aerial down lead and see what happens.
I would also be obliged if you could also mention the model of cheap Freeview box you are referring to that seemingly has magic properties, as I just want to ensure that it does not have aerial powering facilities. Julie HSunday 29 July 2012 6:43PM
Need some advice. Hav a freesat box ( new), I can get the hd channels but I am trying to watch the red button channels for the Olympics. I can see the list but when I pick one the device is saying connection problem. Are other people experiencing this is? Any ideasDaveSunday 29 July 2012 7:33PM
since the start of the olympics my signal has gone choppy, i was wondering if the bbc were pushing the bandwidth a bit to far with all the extra red button stuff they are proving and its weakened the signalSpuffTuesday 31 July 2012 9:19PM
Ever since I've had freeview (several years) all the BBC channels have been rock solid. There has hardly ever been a stutter or pixellation. As soon as the Olympics have started there is frequent freezing, pixellation and sometimes total loss of signal.
It is very frustrating.g pennMonday 6 August 2012 8:50PM
my free view has been ace during the olympics until this monday when now all bbc channels are choppy and pixelated sometimes non existent,
do not try to blame my set up as i am a freelance bbc technician.Chevaune StanleyWednesday 8 August 2012 7:25PM
Just since the Olympics started my freeview has gone to pot. I can get BBC channels perfectly but STV, CH4 and all Freeview channels unwatchable. It alternates between No signal, a black screen or just freezing. It happens in the evenings from 6pm only. The ariel connections are sound, everything is plugged in and the ariel is pointed to the correct place. Any ideas? jb38Thursday 9 August 2012 9:13PM
Chevaune Stanley: The timing of this problem is liable to be purely coincidental, as the symptoms experienced suggest that the problem could well be caused by atmospheric reasons affecting the signal, as its the type of difficulty experienced by many during the summer months and is something which unfortunately can occur on more than one occasion as it comes and goes.
However, no one is really able to give a more positive answer without having knowledge of your location, this in the form of a post code or at least one from nearby, as only then can the signal levels expected in your area be assessed with the aid of the trade reception predictor. jasonSunday 2 September 2012 3:42PM
Hi. I have no signal at all. I have a 4 way amplifier in the loft could this be the problem? have checked the aerial outside but doesnt seem to be a problem? the bt vision box or any of the tvs in the house work at all? the tv says poor signal in area? do the amplifiers break or what? nothing to turn on or off but you can turn a button round but havent messed with this. its an optima ma20?any ideas?Michael KellyThursday 6 September 2012 9:33PM
I have the bush freeview + digital tv recorder but I can't get the tv stations on my sharp tv without the box on and using ext 2. If off and I select the tv option not external 2 I don't get any channels. I live in northern Ireland and switch over isn't until October.Liz FhimaMonday 10 September 2012 8:35PM
I have a Sony integral Freeview TV & used to get pixelating on some channels so replaced my rooftop aerial about 3 years ago. Tonight suddenly all BBC services are not tuning & when I switch the TV off & on it is reverting to ITV1KMJ,DerbyMonday 10 September 2012 9:18PM
Liz Fhima: If you have retuned and no longer have any BBC channels in the channel list the TV will select channel 3 as the first available channel when pressing 1 or 2 on the remote. You will need to do another retune when you are able to receive the BBC mux again in order to restore the BBC channels to the channel list.Brian WeggFriday 14 September 2012 1:59PM
Salcombe I live in Devon at TQ8 8**. I received all digtal channels via aerial in the loft - we are in an area of oustanding natural beauty and are not allowed roof aerials. We are tuned towards the Salcombe transmitter and picked up all the digital channels on Freeview until the start of the Olympics and now all BBC chanels have disappeared completely. The TV is a two year old John Lewis set with a built-in digital tuner. I have gone through all the auto-retune and manual retune procedures advised by Digital Uk and there are no BBC channels. This is a problem shared by neighbours who have a new Sony TV set and friends further down the road with another brand of newish TV. All received BBC up until the end of July. I am told there are no faults on the Salcombe transmitter. Any ideas!! Brian Wegg: The photographs of your road shown by Google Streetview are dated August 2009 and show what could be construction works in the field on the opposite side of the road. The satellite images are presumably more recent as they show three buildings in that field.
As these could be in line with the transmitter I wonder if some change there could be the cause. Have you noticed any changes in the area, particularly in the line between you and the transmitter?
