There is a show on regional BBC2, it's the Super League show on a Sunday. Last week it was on BBC1 North because of the Easter schedule but I don't seem to be able to get a BBC2 North through Sky's Freesat service

There are only four versions of BBC TWO on digital (Sky, Freeview, Cable etc): England, Wales, NI and Scotland.

Only the analogue service carries English regional versions of BBC TWO, and these are generally unused.

On Freeview - change the direction your aerial points. On Sky - ring Sky and they will ask you your new address and make the modifications. If you want to add ITV channels yourself using Sky, see www.ukfree.tv link icon  How to add all itv-1 channels to "Other Channels".

Just to let you know your list of Postcodes for BBC Regions on Sky is out of date.

For example RH8, RH10 RH11 AND RH19 are all allocated 100% to BBC South East and not BBC London.

Yout ITV Postcode allocation looks spot on.

Gareth: the list is illustrative, and is an average for the postcode area. The rest of the site is based upon your exact location, not an average for each area.

Hi

We live in cheshire - my dad is currently able to receive analogue welsh region tv (bbc and SC4) via a second aerial he had installed pointed towards wales (to watch the rugby that isnt shown on the English regions) - the picture isnt brilliant but is watchable.

They have just bought a new tv with digital free view installed.

If I plug the welsh aerial into the digibox and run the channel set up will the digi box detect and set up bbc wales and SC4?

I would put the english aerial into the tv so they can watch the english region channels direct without using the digibox.

Do you know of any other ways (other than SKY) to receive regional digital tv? - does freesat allow you to watch multiple regions or must you set it to just region?

thanks

Gareth: You can watch all BBC regions with Freesat and you can enter any postcode to select any ITV region (plus ITV1 London).

With Freeview with multiple transmitters, one version of BBC One, BBC Two, ITV1 and Channel 4 will appear on 101, 102, 103 and 104 with any other versions appearing on 800-899.

Thanks for your prompt response - are you saying that you should be able to pick up multiple region digital via a normal digi box with a single aerial (by looking through channels 800 to 899)?

Or will I need to still use the welsh aerial?
Briantist
Saturday 3 January 2009 11:02AM
Gareth: You will not get multiple regions with a single aerial, you only get the regional services from the appropriate transmitter.

Is it practicle to use a freesat system on a touring caravan? How difficult is it to repeatedly align a dish each time you move sites ? and, are the dishes suitable to withstand the average winter in the British Isles? Maplins sell a'camping' freesat set,any advice would be appreciated thanks

Hi Howard,

Its not rocket science mate, but it does require practice. A caravan dish & tripod or a frame kit is usually to be found on ebay & this site by Dave Sullivan should be very useful to you.

Good luck & if you need futher help just ask.

Can anyone tell me why when we live in Derby and in East Midlands area, we get the West Midlands news on digital / freeview on our main tv? Interstingly on our small tv upstairs we do get the East Midlands news.
Briantist
Wednesday 8 December 2010 8:54AM
Alison Herbert: You get the services your aerial provides. If it points at a transmitter in the East Midlands, you get those version and vice-versa.

You should check the 800-899 channel range, you may find you have access to the alternative versions there.

Gareth, I am thinking of buying a TV with Freeview/HD included. Trouble is my Analogue Aerial is useless, having a poor signal from Dover. I already have Freesat from Sky which is good but no HD?? Could I purchase one of the many Satelite Dishes and put this up alongside my Sky-dish,making it a separate supply to my FreeviewHD when it arrives here in Kent in 2012. Hope you can help!

Hi, we currently receive points west news with the bbc but would like to receive South Today, as this news is more relevant to where we live. Our aerial is on the roof! Is there a way we can change this with Freeview? Thanks!

Sam: I gather that you are on Mendip (320 degrees, aerial horizontal).

The Digital UK predictor suggests that you might be able to receive from Rowridge PSBs after its switchover on 21st March. The COMs increase power on 18th April and might be available to you (I say might as the predictor suggests that they will be "poor").

Rowridge carries BBC South and ITV1 Meridian. If you wish to retain ITV West, you could retain your Mendip aerial and have it diplexed (combined) with one on Rowridge (assuming that Rowridge is feasible). If this causes issues with the EPG and recording (due to using channels from different transmitters), you could use Mendip as your main transmitter. Logical channel number (LCN) 1 could continue to be BBC One from Mendip, but have BBC One from Rowridge on another LCN for use specifically to view regional news. The procedure to do this will vary depending on the design of the receiver.

On the other hand, if you can get all channels from Rowridge (after 18th April) and wish to watch Meridian, then the Mendip aerial will probably be surplus to requirements (I would keep it as a back-up) and you will be able to use Rowridge for all channels. Or maybe you could get all of Rowridge's channels, but prefer ITV West, in which case you could switch over to Mendip for its local programming (assuming that you've had the aerials combined).

PSB="Public Service Broadcaster" which is BBC, ITV1, C4, C5, HD services and some others.
COM=Commercial channels (Dave, Film4, ITV3 etc)

See here for a full list of channels which shows which are PSBs and which are COMs (indicated by the heading above each table):

www.dtg.org.uk link icon DTG :: DTT Services by Multiplex

Treat the predictor as a guide and be mindful that the actual situation could differ. In particular, the prediction of poor reception of the Rowridge COMs could be as a result of Stockland Hill using the same three channels (but the same three as Rowridge PSBs). I'm not sure why it thinks that Rowridge's D3&4 (ITV1, C4 etc) on ch27 will also become poor on that date.

At the end of the day, only an aerial installer can tell you for definate what can and cannot be done. However, it does help to have done some research beforehand.

I would wait until 18th April before getting anyone in. That way they can look at what signal is actually available rather than trying to guess what might work when the signal level is boosted on that date.

I have two freeview TVs. The first gives me a choice of local region when tuning as I live on the borders of the NC, CB and HL regions. My new TV automatically tunes to HL which does not provide local news for my area.

Which frequency or channel should I manually tune to for BBC 1 in the NC or CB regions?

Tuesday 31 January 2012 8:45AM
Tony: If you provided your location (pref: post code) it would enable any advice given to be reasonably accurate by taking the guesswork out of it, this because of being able to check on the signal strength expected at your location.
jb38
Tuesday 31 January 2012 9:06AM
Tony: Just to add, that although its still preferable to be able to check on the signal strength expected wherever you might be located, for "HL" (Belmont) BBC1 is Ch22 / ITV Ch25 and on "CB" (Sandy) BBC1 is Ch27 / ITV Ch24.

Tony: Sorry, the one I forgot to mention being "NC" (Tacolneston) with BBC1 CH55 / ITV Ch59.

How do I get BBC Look East in HD on sky tv as i have to keep swopping from 143 to channel 101 its most annoying
Briantist
Tuesday 7 February 2012 8:10AM
jeff Williams: You can't as no BBC One regions broadcast in HD. BBC One HD is a national service.
Mike Dimmick
Tuesday 7 February 2012 3:24PM
Briantist, Jeff Williams: BBC One HD will shortly launch national variants for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (no date yet publicised, but it was in the DQF proposals, and in a work plan for 2011/12). However, regional variations are not yet proposed.

The main problem is actually cost of coverage on satellite. A single satellite channel is thought to be cheaper than a nationwide Freeview channel, even without Sky subsidising the costs (and then taking the revenue with the other hand), but each regional variant of BBC One has to be broadcast from the same satellites, so the BBC are effectively paying for 18 channels of space. On Freeview, very few transmitters broadcast more than one regional variant, so the costs don't multiply. (Caldbeck carries North East & Cumbria and Scotland, while Storeton carries North West and Wales, although each have directional antennas for one of the services.).

Hi, I live in suffolk but want to watch BBC Wales for the rugby coverage. I currently have freeview only. By reading the posts am I right in thinking my only option except iplayer is sky?
Mike Dimmick
Friday 10 February 2012 10:23PM
Mike: No, you can use Freesat or a non-branded satellite receiver. All BBC channels are free-to-air on satellite. Freesat does provide a full EPG rather than just now & next information for the channel you're watching.

See www.ukfree.tv link icon Compare Freesat and Freesat-from-Sky TV | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice for a comparison between channels available on Freesat and channels available through Sky's free service. A non-subscription Sky box will still show all the channels that you would have to subscribe to get - it's a deliberate attempt to try to get you to subscribe. Also, Sky+ PVR functions - recording and time-shifting programmes - are only enabled if you subscribe. Those features are always enabled on all Freesat+ boxes and indeed can't be disabled.
