I have a free flat screen tv with a separate recordable dvd. I cannot get any digital onto the dvd to record, only analogue. The TV is fine. The aerial is connected to the dvd and then to the tv. There is a scart lead between the dvd and the tv.

I assume I have connected it up incorrectly. Can anyone help help please?

Linn Davies: You need a DVD recorder with a built-in Freeview tuner if you want to record, or at least a Freeview box.

You can't normally record from a TV, you need a tuner, on both analogue or digital.

Free view is non existent in my area of uk and I am using a toshiba hd set realy only as a monator + a grundig Hd digital freesat box, I have just bought a samsung sh893 dvd recorder and am wondering if I can program the set to use like freeview, and watch 1 program while I record another

denis tearle: No, you cant' do that. If you want to record Freesat channels whilst watching others, you will need a Freesat+ or Freesat+HD box which has two recievers - and also requires two cables and a quad-LNB to be fitted.

I used to live in Newcastle, and my Phillips tv worked fine on digital. It has digital built in to it. But since iv moved to Glasgow I can't get any digital tv. The analogue television gets like 3 channels and they are such bad quality that it's unwatchable. Iv had the maintenence guy out to have a look at the areal socket in the wall and he took it apart n back together but it made no difference. Any suggestions please !!!

Daniel Peake: Have you just moved in the last week?

The last Scottish analogue transmissions were switched off last Wednesday morning. You will need to do a full retune on your TV if you haven't already. It might be called Full Reset, Default Setting, or First-Time Installation, and it might be under the Software Update menu rather than the tuning menu. Add Channels is not enough, you need it to completely remove everything it previously knew about where the channels were.

www.tvretune.co.uk link icon TV Re-tune may have a guide for retuning your TV, or a copy of the manual.

It's possible that your TV cannot handle the 8K mode used for post-switchover transmissions. Check whether it's on the list at www.digitaluk.co.uk link icon http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/2kequipment , and check with Philips whether any software/firmware updates are available.

Daniel Peake. If you get no results with the advice Mike's given you, you could try removing the aerial connection to the set. Again follow Mike's directions above, once done, re-connect the aerial and run First-Time install again. Hopefully the process will have wiped the memory as it was when in Newcastle and give you a satisfactory re-install of the digital channels from Blackhill.

At the moment I have one flat screen television operated through Sky.I also have 2 televisions in other rooms using a roof aerial with the signal boosted to these points and was using a freeview box to whatever t.v. was being watched at the time.My problem is that a "no signal " message is coming up on whatever t.v.I try to use with the freeview box,to cut a long story short I have traced the fault to the roof aerial but I am not sure which type of aerial I need fitted. I would be grateful for any suggestions.Bob McAteer

Bob McAteer: As you are close to a powerful transmitter at Black Hill, you can use a standard "contract" aerial on the roof to get the signals. A "group E" will provide the best possible signals for the smallest aerial.

If you are fitting a new aerial, you should also use satellite-grade coaxial cable to connect the set to the aerial as this will provide the best quality signal and be longer-lasting.

Dave Lindsay
Wednesday 7 December 2011 6:32PM
Anne R: When you say that you cannot get 1-9 channels, are you referring to BBC One, BBC Two, ITV1, C4 up to BBC Four?

Are you using a rooftop aerial?

What is your post code so as to find out what transmitters serve your area?
Anne R

Hi thanks for your reply - yes is the answer to both questions.

Hi Dave- Ill expand the answer to your reply above.
I cant get BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, C4 up to BBC 4 ie channels 1 to 9.

The TV aerial is a rooftop aerial.

thanks Anne R.

Anne R: As well as Dave Lindsay's request for your post code for purposes of assessing your signal strength, you should also be aware that because its increasingly becoming possible to receive signals from more than one transmitter in the UK, that very fact can easily create problems with devices such as you have insomuch that its very easy to exceed the devices memory storage capacity. (of only 75)

If this happens it can either reject any further channels being picked up, or if it doesn't it will lose them when its switched off.

Manual tuning of the multiplexes required being the only way of getting over the problem.

The signal strength is ok as I havetwo other flat screens that are working ok. I think it may have something to do with not having reset my channels when the TV had to be reset earlier in the year??

Thanks jb38 Ill have a look to see how many channels its picked up. I would have thought it would start picking up from BBC1 not from channel 10?

Sunday 11 December 2011 7:28AM
Anne R: Yes, but your location query was only made because you "might" reside in an area where the BBC and ITV1 transmitters are on full high power operation whereas the others aren't, and if the signal being received via your rooftop aerial is too strong it could be blocking reception of these channels, hence the problem you are experiencing. (only mentioned as its just one possibility!)

This problem, should it be applicable in your case, is not unique to the device you are using as it can happen with any Freeview receiver.

Trying to re-tune digital tv to new digital services from 13/06/12, will not respond. Am in ME3 9BL post code,England. All BBC channels lost. Please can you advise? Alison.
Dave Lindsay
Friday 15 June 2012 6:47PM
Alison: Can you post the make and model of your receiver? Some older models won't work after switchover.

BBC signals have now "switched", and therefore affected models will loose the ability to receive BBC channels. The model number will help determine whether this is the case here or not.

No installation/re-tune menu appeared when I plugged in my freeview box, all I get is a no signal message. I do not have an roof top aerial, does this matter?

I have a LG 42PC10v television. I bought a Goodman's Low Energy Set Top (freeview) box (marked for digital tv) today, along with a One For All amplified indoor aerial (there is no aerial socket in the wall of the flats where we live) I cant get anything to work. does anyone know how to fix this up so we can at least have tv for Christmas? My husband is severely disabled and housebound. We had a Freesat box that packed up on us this morning due to the dish being out of alignment and the engineer cant visit until after Christmas. this could be a pretty bleak Christmas season if we have to watch dvds for the next two weeks or so! Any advice?

Sheena-Ann Brown: Although I fully sympathise with your predicament its not really possible to offer advice when you have not indicated your location, this having to be in the form of a post code or one from somewhere nearby e.g: a shop, as only once this is known can access be made to the reception predictor and advice appropriate to the location be given.
