It's all very well switching off analogue TV, but Freeview reception sucks. Everyone I've asked the length and breadth of the country says the same thing - bad weather (rain, snow, fog etc), trashes the signal.

My building has a boosted Freeview-compatible aerial, and I have another TWO boosters in my flat, yet in bad weather almost all Freeview channels are unviewable.

So what, exactly, is going to be done about this? Let me guess - sod all?

I receive just a state pension topped up with pension credit. When mortgage, DDs etc are paid, I have about £60 a month to live on, to buy all food and petrol.

How on earth do I afford the digital conversion kits for my two small TVs, and digital radios to replace the 5 analogue models which I have throughout the house?

I have no money to even pay a plumber to stop a dripping tap!

Heather Pickering: Hi.
For a start there is no need whatsoever to replace the radios. Radio is not being switched off.
Secondly, your transmitter does not switch-over until 2011, so you don't have to do anything for three years.
Also, if you are over 75, you get free equipment anyway, please see www.helpscheme.co.uk link icon Help Scheme for Digital Television Switchover | Welcome to the Switchover Help Scheme for more

I have had no problems with the digital TV since ONDIGITAL came on air and receiving all CHANNELS up to Aug 11 2009 from Carradon.
On Aug 12 the frequencies changed and the signal strength dropped partically the ITV channels.
My neigbour was OK until Aug 12 2009 then she could not receive BBC 1, BBC2, BBC 3 and BBC News 24 but BBC 4 and the Parlement was ok and the signal was very poor on other channels making TV useless.

Yes, but not necessarily on all multiplexes, helping the aerial installers but not the viewer's purse/wallet

Pete: It is rare for a multiplex not to go to full power, most of the "lower power" COM multiplexes are at higher power than the services that they replaced.

Willie Kerr: Yes.

Durris: Freeview power increases from 13,333 W to 75,000 W, 5 times stronger.

Knock More: Freeview power increases from 1,000 W to 15,000 W, 15 times stronger.

The chap who lives on £60 per month seems to have petrol as a deductable expense. That tends to suggest a car. To be honest with all the trash on TV I have decided to get rid of the TV and rely on radio 4, plus i haven't got the luxury of a car.

Going to Freeview for the first time in my area in my area this morning but have not received any itv or channel four programs as yet.

Will they be coming later today or on the second retune in two weeks time ? If latter presume we have to switch back to analogue to get itv in the mean time ?

I live in Sheffield and now the analogue signal has gone the auto time update on my VHS and DVD machines is no longer available. It is a pain resetting every time I switch them on, which I do every day because I do not leave them on standby overnight. When I do switch them on I get two 0:00's flashing at me! My temp solution is to unplug them until required! Is there anything to replace the auto update time signal?

John Martin: Oh very helpful comment from someone who appears to spend his days sat on his bum in front of a computer screen.
You should get out more, who knows YOU might get some exercise ha ha.

Briantist: Thanks, I also contacted Panasonic the manufacturer to see if the equipment might be able to use the digital signal, of course it is old enough not to have been designed with digital signal reception capability. So I will have to do as our helpful friend says.

BTW my parents have been dead for over 30 years.
